So it improved with time did it Tom? You weren't that optimistic at first...I think your words were, "on the wrong side of mediocre"

Level design is generally quite simple, but there is plenty of variety in locations, even within single missions.

Sounds more interesting and replayable than Max Payne, although that's hardly a ringing endorsement...

i heartily agree, enclave kicks ass. the saves are the most annoying thing ever though. (apart from a string of crap titles since launch, gunmetal aside).
"agnoy of azurik and nightcaster" - how right you are!

Yep, I was wrong. Given a bit more time it blossomed nicely.

The game definitely deserves more positive reviews than those it's been gettin'. Personally, I think it's one of the most enjoyable xbox games I've played. And yeah, midlevel saves are for wussies. I haven't had this kind of fun/torture since playing AvP1 on pc, before they released the save-enabling patch.

As I've stated before (including all my plus/minus points) I thoroughly enjoyed this game.

I had to take it back tho', I didn't have a clue to do when you're caught in that flood..

It wouldn’t be so annoying if the difficulty level wasn’t just the wrong side of acceptable either

Point for debate: is the average difficulty level of most representative Xbox games higher than the difficulty level one can find in most representative PS2 and Cube games? I just can remember one very difficult game for PS2: Maximo; for the Cube, maybe SW:RL and SMB (right?). For Xbox: Enclave, GunValkyrie and PGR are undeniably hard (the later from half-way point forward) and even Rallisport and MotoGP are not easy at all.

Is it possible that developers see Xbox as the hardcore gamers platform of choice? Or are games just getting harder because gamers are demanding it (or, at least, developers think they are)?. First reviews on Super Mario Sunshine often mention the high difficulty level...

It's well worth a pop. Not entirely "insane" ;) but nothing to be sniffed at.

Is this a challenge, sir?

I haven't even got a PC at the moment, so I'm afraid I can't oblige if that's the case.

I'm on my work PC at the moment.

Cue slow motion Xbox play, with Eye of the Tiger playing in the background. :)
