I enjoyed playing the demo and may end up picking this up, however I'm amazed that the review never mentions how awful the graphics look these days. Doesn't seem to me like they updated them from the first game at all. Unless of course the demo was deliberately held back in that department, but I severly doubt it.

Don't think I'm going to spend my money on this one...not exactly gaming history. I endured a couple of hours of the first one, before I got fed up.

Just a small bit of advice, if you did play the demo and have installed the full game be careful when/if you uninstall the demo. Checking the "Remove save games" in the demo uninstaller will remove save games from the full game as well. You dont want to be half way through the game when you do this, oh no.

The game is fun otherwise, you get to kill shit to death...alot, which is always fun.

I can't say the graphics are that bad... a tip is to manually turn on AA and AF through the control panel since there are no in game controls for it. Looks much better after that... For those of you with large monitors you can also set whatever resolution you want with a simple ini-file edit. I run in 1680*1050 with full AA and AF on and I got nothing to complain about.

Prequel

A literary, dramatic, or cinematic work whose narrative takes place before that of a preexisting work or a sequel.

Dungeon siege would only be a prequel if it was made after DS2!

*Edited later...

oops :o)

my bad!

from wikipedia:

A prequel is a work that portrays events which are set in the same "universe" as a previously completed narrative, but at an earlier time.

The term prequel is often misused to describe any work set before a related work. Those who misuse the term do not understand that "sequel" is one of the words used to create "prequel." To use a modern example, The Phantom Menace (1999) is a prequel to Return of the Jedi (1983), but not to Attack of the Clones (2002).

So, which part of "or a sequel" in your own definition did you not understand? ;)

I'm with Ceatlan - I've been playing the demo and really enjoying it but it doesn't look that hot (regardless of resolution settings). Why is it that top-down PC RPGs still lack the effects and details of the Dark Alliance engine games on the PS2 and Xbox. >:(

Well a game I worked on was advertised on EG and never even got reviewed, so there, conspiracy theorists, so there.

Sounds good enough for me tbh (also played the demo, like it), I shall definitely be getting it... after we find out who won the compo ;)
Also, granted the graphics aren't exactly cutting edge but I think the game's visuals are nice enough.

I'm a bit concerned about the low framerates I've been getting though (as with DS1, in fact).

I've finished bloodlines several times. It could be done pre-patch as well, with a rather complex workaround for the game-breaking bug. The last quests were a bit pants, but it's still one of the finest RPG's I've played.

"there's a cameo from what appears to be the elf from the legendary slasher, who drops treasure from his sack when hit"

I'll bet he does. Dirty bugger.

I actually enjoyed the demo of the first one (not enough to buy the game though) so this has nelsoned my interest.

Bru-Man,

Excuse my ignorance, but what on earth does 'nelsoned' mean ?

(I'm guessing its a slang term for 'piqued' but I can't fathom why/how)

(Edit : Having written this down, I guessed it could be as in 'Nelson Piquet'. If it is then I'm amazed something so obtuse would ever arise, the only Nelson that came anybody in the offices mind when I asked was Admiral Nelson and nobody could think of a link between piqued and him.)

Bloodlines placed in the action RPG subgenre? I would put it more in the hardcore part of the RPG genre.

DS2 looks like real value for money but playing the demo when you just started playing Diablo II again makes things pretty clear idd.

The first dungeon siege was one of the most tedious, drawn out and insultingly easy games it's ever been my misfortune to complete out of some obsessive compulsive urge. I wouldn't even torrent the sequel, let alone part with real cash-flavoured money for it.
