"In many ways this game is superior to Morrowind; although it doesn't have the initial appeal offered by that title's graphical splendour,"

Meaning that it won't run at 15fps on my 1.4g, 256mb PC?

Great!

Slim: rpg=role playing game since you build your character and choose the way action goes in Deus Ex, this makes it a RPG (and a damn good one).

If the demo is anything to go by the interface will kill this game dead. Doesn't anyone learn anything?

Never understood why everyone was so wowed by Deus Ex when it was so graphically poor, the AI was pitiful, the dialogue was strained and most of it's 'neat things' had been done before (and better) by LGS.

/cat amongst pigeons.

The magic system looks interesting, though. It's nice to see someone try something other than the ol' 'magic-book-and-mana'-approach. I like the idea of a skill-based magic casting.

off topic - but there is nowhere else to put this.

Has anyone played "The Fellowship of the Ring" (Not the EA one). I await a review from these hallowed halls, but if the developers have any sense they won't bother sending it out.

It is .... not very good.

I think it is out on Friday but I am playing the final retail version.

uh oh, they didn't fix the combat/collision system, after having played the demo for 10 minutes I think I'll opt out of this one then (but was Morrowind any better in this respect?)

btw: Deus Ex (and System Shock 2 for that matter) are true works of genius (who goes by the name of Warren Spector), the only 1st person games able to make you forget about being a bunch of pixels in a "level".

so there ;)

as for Deus Ex being an RPG, I was always a bit puzzled by this categorization myself, at least I would hate to see it lumped together with Baldur's Gate et al for supposedly being an RPG and the only difference lying in the 1st vs 3rd person view

Hmmm Final Fantasy is not a real game is it? Though my little brother is mad about it ...
About Arx Fatalis, wasn't this one about making spells while drawing runes with your cursor? It was kind of hard sometimes, in the demo (which I couldn't finish, something kept on missing). The good thing was the the spells were working even if you hadn't found the corresponding runes... that is if you already played the game and know the runes, you could make powerfull spells already (I don't know if this is still possible in this version).

Having put a bunch of hours into arx, I'd say the score (but not the review) was a bit unfair. It's a superb game, truly a worthy successor to the Ultima Underworld games. If you liked those two, and the system shock games, grab arx immediately!

Seeing that Arx Fatalis costs a mere 20 EUR now, I am really tempted to pick it up...but as much as I liked UU, I guess the whole "Underworld" theme was at the time chosen cause PCs weren't ready to render outdoor environments. I fear a lack of variety in the environments in Arx Fatalis. :-/

Magic system looks interesting & length quite good. But that doesn't mean it's as funny as Morrowind... Anyway, waiting for release!!!
