Ooh... a review posted at 6am.

No shock to hear that Geist didn't live up to its promise though.

Burnout: More of the same 8/10 *
FC Instincts: Quite good actually 8/10 *

* Based on what I've read elsewhere

Now stop complaining and enjoy reviews of quirky games early in the morning ;-)

It's a novel idea, one of which could have been really well done. But score one for missed oppertunity... mind you, Geist is by far not alone in this strange catagory of "Should of bloody worked but didn't"...

7:14 am... *yawn*

/glugs down coffee.

note: Also worth pointing out that Zelda isn't here yet, so be wary of the "Death of Gamecube" snipes... if Geist is a wasted oppertunity, I wouldn't WANT it to be trumpeted around. I'd much rather it was left as a curio so we can await something which is WORTH our attention. Like, I dunno... Zelda: Twilight Princess, perhaps?

Well no offense people, I was actually impressed by such an early review post so tried to push my luck. Actually where I am, it is not 'morning' but more of a 'mid-morning'. The Geist review prevented me from sleeping during the first hour - you know, squinting at the tiny window and constantly pressing ALT-TAB to pretend you are working is hell of a job.

Problem is, I WANT MORE!!!! Coffee doesn't do it for me folks.

Ah well.. At least they TRIED something new with the dull old fps genre.

But I dunno about other cube owners, the reason i bought a cube was because i was fed up playing fps/racing games on the other three.. So I doubt i'd have bought this - even if it was brilliant.

Try Eternal Darkness. It's not an FPS, but, you know.

Much as I love my Gamecube, I can't imagine buying any more games for it apart from Super Mario Strikers and the new Zelda.

What is this business with people 'loving' their GameCubes and then complaining about the lack of games (surely a minor issue?!) and deciding not to buy this one? Does the GC give you a massage or something when it is not playing games, which is most of the times as per some posts in this thread?

Just curious.

Shame it's not turned out well, especially given how long it's been in development. But I'm not overly surprised - the videos from E3 2004 were terrible, the videos from E3 2005 didn't look much better.

And whoever it was that said it's better than Eternal Darkness - you're wrong. :-)

So, not as good as golden eye or perfect dark then?

"Much as I love my Gamecube, I can't imagine buying any more games for it apart from Super Mario Strikers and the new Zelda." - only zelda for me.....if ts really good.

"Go back to fapping over your Perfect Dark videos loser :p " - I dont know, but not everyone around here is like you. Fammping on game vids isnt healthy mate. Id suggest getting some professional help. ;p

Must admit, little to keep my gamecube now.... now that monkey ball is multi-format, I could pretty much sell it. Disappointing, really. I always wish for more from nintendo and they never get quite enough games that work (last couple of gens, anyway)

Guess this is one of those "purchase at half-price next year" kind of games then.

Fire Emblem, Batallion Wars, Gun, Mario Smash Football, a late Pikmin 2-purchase, plus the 4-5 best DS-games (including an imported Animal Crossing) will be my priority this Christmas.

And maybe that Mario dancing game.

For crying out loud. Can no discussion on these pages avoid decending into mind numbing "my platform is better than yours" nonsese.

So, Geist, not quite what we had hoped for eh? A real pity. I had a feeling when I first saw this that some of the mechanics described needed unique implentation each time to stay fresh, and my worry was that it would simply run out of ideas (I think I compared it to Red Faction in that regard when I read the preview and saw some movies).

Shame it wasnt a great game.. not really my type of thing though so i doubt i wouldve bought it.

I'm still going thru the back catalogue of games i didnt get around to playing the first time. Tak 2 at the moment (which is great and on all platforms - get it), then smash bros next i think.

Curiously enough, I haven't seen any review of Geist, where the reviewer mentions the old PC game Messiah, which is a pretty obvious comparison, when you talk about possessing something in a game.

Oh well

I'm afraid my Gamecube was Ebayed off the other day.

The last thing I was able to sell, before my 'shill bidding' suspension...

Gutted this has turned out to be no more than average because it was one of very few Cube titles I was still looking forward to. Guess it's just Zelda and maybe Fire Emblem left then... :(

There is no reason at all to sell one's cube, unless you're poor, or dumb, or a fanboy, or you just plain don't like games period. I'm getting so sick of hearing it, it's bullshit. STFU.

Or I'll be forced to call the Internet Police.

Since only GAME has spartan total warrior for a rip off £39.99 in stock in cambridge, I took a chance on Geist (with a 10 day return option) and the game is not bad. I agree with some of the points in the review, I'm glad is not another shitty FPS like the very dull project snowblind

7.5/10
