R-Type Dimensions on XBLA this week
2D and 3D cuddle up by the fire.
Microsoft has said R-Type Dimensions will be out on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, 4th February, for 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40).
Dimensions contains classic side-scrolling shooters R-Type and R-Type II. Plus, there's a new Infinite Mode to up the challenge, and flashy 3D graphics can be swapped with the 2D originals on the fly.
Local co-op is in, and uses a ship collision and revive system to mix things up a bit. And, because we're in the 21st Century, a continue option and stage-unlock feature have been bundled in.
R-Type began life in arcades back in 1987, and followed spaceship Arrowhead battling for mankind against evil alien Bydo. Original developer Irem has been replaced by Tozai Games for this version, and the latter will also deliver retro remake Lode Runner on Xbox Live Arcade soon.
Look out for our thoughts as soon as we can think them.

You buy points at 400, 800, 1000 etc.
So, the way MS price stuff, if you buy a game you normally spend more than the actual cost of what you buy. They do this on the the hope you waste the left over on pics/themes etc.
I never really liked the system but got on with it (and even wasted the leftover at times like a good little 360 owner) but now with the higher price point and with PSN's buy at price (even tho there is a fiver minimum), I kind of think it's time for a rethink.

1200 pts its a little steep tho. But who am I kidding... I know ill get this cos its pretty sweet.
I guess the justification is that its 2 games since you get Rtype and Rtype 2. At that price tho they couldve at least given us a version of Rtype LEO - which I dont think ever made it into production... but can be played in MAME.

On the other hand, I do hope Under Defeat won't be more than 800 points, if it's going to be an almost-direct port like Ikaruga and THE.

people think £10.20 is expensive..... really.
More that it's bad value than it's expensive, it's not about whether you can or can't afford something but rather whether you think it's worth the asking price.
I think it was put best in "Arby and the Chief" when they were talking about the price of DLC:
Master Chief: w/e. ur just 2 p00r 2 affoerd teh new maps.
Arbiter: It's not a competition about who has the most money, you fucking idiot. It's about a personal sense of worth. But I guess that's a concept that's too complex for your hopeless, juvenille, idiotic brain to understand.
*silent pause*
Master Chief: hahhahahhah. ur p00r. u cant affoerd stuff.
Arbiter: Sigh.
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not saying you're like the Chief, just that I loved that scene and thought it was a perfect example.

That's how credit cards work... You pay a transaction fee when you pay with a debit card too. You may not -notice- it, but you do.

I thought cards work by fleecing interest?
All I know is what they charge I pay and that's all that comes out no charge or fee for credit or debit card, if this fee is in the price I certainly never noticed an increase in cost if I chose to pay for something on a card so the store must take a hit on it - which is all good by me!

But I want it anyway!

Entirely depends on the store you purchase from. All credit card transactions attract a small fee which is percentage based and charged by the credit card company/bank to the seller NOT the customer/buyer. Most stores won't charge a fee when you use a credit card, however some do pass on the fee to the buyer as a surcharge if they don't want to lose any profit margin on the purchase made. Also depends on the type of credit card you have. Generally stores will not pass on the fee if you use a MasterCard, Visa, etc, but if you use a card that charges higher merchant fees such as Diners or American Express then the store is more likely to pass on the fee to the customer. That's why some stores offer "pay less for cash!" or set a minimum for goods purchased, eg customer must spend over $20 if they want to use credit card.

I can't even complain about the price now, as it's 2 games, with online multiplayer, new features like the infinite mode (so I can see all of the levels and bosses for the 1st time), and they've revamped the graphics to full 3D!
I remember rushing home from school in around 1990 to play this on my Amstrad CPC. I've only seen the later levels because I learned how to trick the game into loading the wrong level off of the tape. I also still have the CPC version, and my CPC if I rummage thru my stuff. Not got a monitor though - so I can't power the damn thing up or display it.
Fantastic. 360 gaming bliss as usual!
