Looks good, still a silly name!

Craig though, he's...just....not...bond.

I'm not saying Casino Royale was a bad film, it wasn't. Sure he's not George Lazenby, but like Pierce he has just got something missing that Sean (god), Roger and (IMO) Tim brought to Bond.

Having grown up with bond movies I totally agree with you. Bond was never about the grit and violence. It was always about a british agent with charm, style, a wicked sense of humour and a gadget for all occasions. He always got the girl (though never kept her) and saved the day. Pierce was a good bond but, a little too charming without portraying that steel edge that Sean and Roger had. You could never quite believe he'd kill you where as with Sean, you just knew he was coiled for action even when sipping a martini. Craig just comes across as a violent thug to be honest.

OK forget Living Daylights :) License To Kill though is great Bond and Daltons performance (apparently) is closer to Flemings Bond than anything, even the great god Connery. In terms of style of Bond I'd say Craig's Bond has more in common with Daltons than anyones.

Do you know that (so I've heard) Moore needed a stunt double for scenes with fast walking.

Exactly. While Fleming would certainly not approve of Bond's reworked background, he always wrote the character as a callous sadist. I'm sure that's not how he saw him, given that Fleming was a rather reactionary old Imperial warhorse, but that's how the character appears today. Casino Royale is the first Bond movie in years to draw its tone from the books rather than the girls, gadgets, glib remarks that Hollywood foisted on the character.

I always felt pierce was one of the best bonds. There was something ruthless beyond beyond his extremely charmining persona. Shame all his bond movies were crap, barring goldeneye.

As for Tim & Moore? Don't make me LOL, they were both dires, especially moore. The guy was pure cheese.
I'm a connery fan (as an actor, not even as a bond), but people say he's the best simply because he was the first.

There's some truth in this. It's also notable that Daniel Craig is the first actor to inherit the role with no residual baggage - they were reinventing the character, so there was less pressure to follow what people popularly think of as "Bond-like". Connery was the only other actor to start with such a blank slate.

I'm actually surprised that Casino Royale did so well. Die Another Day was the most successful Bond film ever, in terms of box office, yet it's an absolutely awful film on pretty much every level. I was convinced that the general public were quite happy to see Bond in any old shite.

Craig and Dalton are the only two actors who have ever portrayed Bond as anything more than a womanizing caricature. You can love the old films all they want, but they had zero depth in any area. I like the new direction the series has taken with Casino Royale.

If Treyarch can make World at War anywhere near as good as Modern Warfair, then Quantum of Solace could really be a treat...

I'm hoping they can add a bit of the same magic that Rare applied all those years ago.

It needed a kick, but that film was more like a limp slap across the shin. It still came across as dated, weak and targeted at 13yr olds. Lots of people loved it at the cinema, got caught up in the hype and were pleased to hear how it'd become more action blah blah. But when you watch it again, it pales to most other action films. Bourne is much more interesting to watch (apart from the last one). Different films I know, but I didn't roll my eyes as much when watching Bourne. Differing opinions I guess.

Anhoooo I digress. The game? Bet it'll be average. So hard to make good games from films... too many cooks involved in final decision making process.

The best thing about the CoD 4 engine was the lighting (apart from cracking 60fps obviously).

The lighting on this looks a few notches below what Infinity Ward managed to extract from the engine.

My favourite Bond was Pierce Brosnan, mainly because even when he was doing Remington Steele I always saw him as James Bond. Prior to him doing the role, I did like Roger Moore, mainly for his English gentlemen portrayal of Bond but admit that his movies did get increasingly silly and he wasn't the greatest actor. Sean Connery was very good but I didn't grow up with his movies so he's not my fave. Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby were awful though and although Daniel Craig is promising, I'm not yet convinced that he is Bond.

This film is looking alot like a Bourne re-make, watch the teaser trailer for it - its basically about trying to re-capture Bond as he has ran away - even quoting "cancel his passports"... too similar imo - now is the game going to be 'The Bourne Conspiracy' or 'Goldeneye'??

Dalton was closest to the book, hwoever most people relate glibb and camp to the film roles so people didnt like him, he also had the downside of making the films during the 80's action period, if he had done Goldeneye it would have been awesome. Worth noting he was Cubby Brocoli's first choice to replace Sean but he was far too young (by his own admission at 22)

Oh and Dalton was the WORST - Bond needs to be a bit sleazy and Dalton was nothing more than wet and a bit girly.

I've seen this running, looks like total gubbins. I heard people stifling laughs while it was being demoed. Just another mediocre movie license that'll do okay on the console because it's a shooter and it's Bond. Prediction 6-7/10 on Xbox and PS3, 4-6/10 on PC.

"Oh right, because the PC has had LOADS of good games in the past 2 - 5 years.

a) It's not about what good games the PC has or hasn't had, the fact is PC reviewers are frequently a lot tougher on multiformat FPS titles. Look at the ratings Halo 2 got compared to its Xbox outing. There are a great many more shooters on PC so only the very best are rated highly. And all too often console ports suffer on a technical level. The main target for QOS is going to be the mass console market, which increases the likelihood that the PC version will be an afterthought.

b) Crysis, Sam 'n' Max, World of Warcraft, Gothic 3, EVE, Trackmania, Battlefield, Flight Sim X, Half-Life 2, Company of Heroes, STALKER, Civ 4, Titan Quest, Unreal Tournament, The Witcher, World in Conflict, Guild Wars, Trials 2, Dark Messiah, Football Manager...and a fuck-ton of others. You're right, there has been no good games on the PC at all!
