Puzzle Quest heading to XBLA News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

1 May, 2007

Puzzle Quest is on its way to Xbox Live Arcade!

That's because D3Publisher of America has announced its intention to get on board with all this new-fangled downloadable game tomfoolery, with Mad Tracks, RocketBowl and Puzzle Quest the firm's first efforts.

They're all down for "later this year". We only hope it's not too much later.

Puzzle Quest, which we reviewed recently, is already out on DS and PSP, and while both are perfectly serviceable (nay, perfectly wonderful), the game deserves a home console audience too.

"But what is it?" you ask, being an Xbox 360 owner who doesn't go in for these stupid childish handhelds. "Does it have guns in it?" No it doesn't, but it does combine the tile-matching fun of Bejeweled with the statistical genius of a well-thought-out RPG.

As lots of you will already know, there's a PC demo to try out, although there's still no sign of an actual PC version for release. One thing we might be able to infer here is that the Xbox Live Arcade game will include online multiplayer - the PC demo mentions it, but neither of the DS and PSP versions offer it.

Mad Tracks, meanwhile, has been mentioned on here in the past, and is already available in demo form on the PC. RocketBowl, finally, is aiming to be Live Arcade's first bowling game.

"What ties all of D3PA's titles together are not genre or size of game or developer, but an unsurpassable element of fun," says Yoji Takenaka of D3PA, who sounds very sincere.

"We look forward to capitalizing on Xbox Live Arcade's wide reach and ease of use to bring gamers unique titles that fit the bill of delivering the highest enjoyment factors."

Details on pricing and releases was not immediately available, but our griffon's level 18 now so they better watch it.

Puzzle Quest no PSP (exclusive on the release name for the Japanese version, there!) ftw. The reviews had me interested, but it's on DS, which I have several games for, but...It's not my first choice, really.

It'll be good to be able to play this game on a TV. :)

Nice one! For some I can't buy the DS version in France, I'm not sure it's even found a publisher.

Well, it's got a European publisher, maybe their French distribution is just crap (and/or non-existent). You could probably get it shipped to France from elsewhere in Europe pretty cheaply, though.

Hello, I'm a D3 person.

We couldn't release Puzzle Quest on NDS in France (yet) as the amount of text involved takes a long time to translate and we are unable to release it in English only in France.

On GDF, after the success on EDF 360, we are looking to bring it out on PS2 but it will take time to get it released.

Hopefuly, you'll now think we're not morons..... :)

Hello D3 person! I don't suppose there's any chance of The Kanshikikan for DS coming out in Europe, is there? That game always struck me as interesting, but it also struck me as the sort of game that wouldn't be very playable in Japanese.

I've been pimping Puzzle Quest like crazy on the GamesTM forum and DS-WiiFi (both the forum and the podcast) for a while now.
Isn't it about time you sent me a free game for my efforts?
;)
It's been my Game of the Year no question, so far. Level 37 warrior riding on a level 20 giant rat - never thought I'd ever type that....

Hendo, thanks for your support. I always thought the Puzzle Quest was a good game but I've been really pleased with how its gone down with anyone who's bought it.

As for free stuff, I'd love to help you out but I'm sure if I did I wouldn't get away with just giving it to you ;-)

How about a competition prize for the members of DS-WiiFi who've been very understanding about my excitable nature of Puzzle Quest?

limepickle,

Please do try to get the PC version released fairly soon. There are many PC gamers who enjoyed the demo but would prefer to own a PC version over a DS/PSP one - either because they don't own a handheld or because the handheld versions are not as good. I hope the PC version is not delayed repeatedly until the game has come out on nearly every platform. Some PC gamers feel betrayed by being able to play the demo but not being given the full version.
