Puzzle Quest 2 heading to DS and XBLA

D3Publisher announces spring release.

D3Publisher has officially announced Puzzle Quest 2 for DS and Xbox Live Arcade and said it will be out in spring 2010.

The game was teased last week with a single screenshot, but now we have three more screenshots hinting at untold adventures.

Or not so untold, since D3P has said we will "reclaim the once peaceful village of Verloren from the evil clutch of the demon Gorgon". Yeah! Stuff you, Gorgon!

This we will get to do as one of four character classes - the War Mage, Inquisitor, Barbarian or Assassin - each promising "interesting twists during multiple playthroughs" of Story mode.

Other modes are Instant Action, Tournament and Multiplayer.

D3P hasn't said much about changes to the gameplay, which is famously based around the match-3 puzzle model, but there are a lot of gauntlets on the screen in those screenshots in addition to familiar rune and skull icons.

"Puzzle Quest 2 returns with a captivating, rewarding, and accessible journey for gamers of all levels as the ultimate delivery system for the mental release puzzle gamers seek," is what D3P's Peter Andrew had to say about it.

Inquisitor, barbarian, assasin? Sounds a bit odd to me. What's wrong with wizard, paladin, warrior?

Multiple playthroughs? The first one kept me busy for weeks on the one time through. I'd have to take early retirement if I were to start playing it more than once.

DS version for me, the first one was perfect for on-the-go play and helping me avoid watching reality tv with the wife.

"Verloren" = "lost" in German. Genius.

I'll get this for the DS but I really hope that they release a bug free version. The first one on the DS had some irritating bugs (luckily not gamebreaking) but still annoying - like the music quality being horrendous (it was even stuttering from time to time) or that the game didn't save the set volume for the music. You had to change it every time you started the game because the default settings made the music so loud that you almost couldn't hear the sound effects at all. The random number generator was also weird since it always had the same seed after loading a saved game thus the first game of a saved game always played exactly the same.

The original is one of the best games on the DS and I almost caved in to rebuy it on XBLA.

Will probably be better than Gyromancer as well.

PSP version of PQ was by far the best. It'll be a crime if no psp version comes along.
