Puzzle Arcade for XBLA tomorrow News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

23 December, 2008

Eidos will be offering jigsaw game Puzzle Arcade on Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow, because the two are a perfect fit. Boom boom.

For 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) you can piece together 35 picture puzzles on three difficulty settings in Classic or Turbo mode. Turbo is a faster-paced, casual option, by the way.

There's fractal puzzles in there, where completing one part of a picture contributes to an enormous whole.

There's downloadable picture packs and challenges, plus you can even use the Live Vision camera to take a picture of your horrible face, jumble it up and put it back together again.

Local and online head-to-head and co-op are also stuffed in, and we've made-up a nice Puzzle Arcade gallery for everybody to look at.

Isnt this taking board game ported to a software game a piece too far?! Jigflamingsaw especially the 1000 pieces kind are more fun for my parents/grandparents to do physically as the software version would not have lost pieces or the 'baby chewed a curve off and hence why I couldn't match it' moment?

/Note to self do not purchase and download it just cos there would be nowt else on the Marketplace!

you should at least be able to bring in pictures streamed from your PC as well as just vision cam pics!

If you could use your own pics off a PC or USB I might actually be tempted. I found the jigsaw on PSP game Classic Board Games Collection quite relaxing....

I downloaded the damn game and actually its pretty relaxing and have different degree of difficulties which is tweakable, and can use your own pics as well.

Will be fun for my kids as well and for me in the wee hours to put together a fit lady in an artistic pose!

I tried the demo. A game like this requires very fine-tuned controls to work well, but Puzzle Arcade doesn't deliver. The cursor is sluggish and the game sometimes won't recognize a correct piece next to another one unless you align them almost pixel-perfect. This makes it very hard to keep up any sort of speed (which is required to keep the combo meter going for high scores).

Also, the gallery can't be explored on your own - instead you just get an incoherent flythrough that goes much too fast.
