Put your Miis in Mario Kart Wii

Plus leaderboards, ghosts, track names.

Mario Kart Wii will let you make your very own Miis ride on bike or karts in online races, according to Famitsu.

The latest issue, partly translated by IGN, also says that you will be able to download 'ghost' lap data so you can race against the best players in time trials.

There's also talk of a new Wii Channel, which allows you to keep up with worldwide rankings.

Something like that is certainly visible in scans of the article, which also rehashes a lot of the info we've heard before: 32 tracks, 16 of which are new, mid-air tricks and 12-player online modes.

It also names some of the new courses, according to IGN - Coconuts Mall, DK Snowboard Cross, Kinoko Canyon, Kinopio Factory, Luigi Circuit, Mario Circuit and Momo Country.

And, yes, it includes the infamous 10th April Japanese release date that Nintendo UK yesterday denied before we received convincing information that it's perfectly true.

What that means for the game in the US and Europe is another matter. Neither GameStop nor Amazon lists a date for the US, while Play.com claims 25th April for the UK and others plump for Q2.

Nintendo has yet to officially announce a date for any region.

Ooooh the Worldwide Ranking channel is a great idea!

(Although I hope you'll be able to access the same info from in the game too, because quitting out to the frontend everytime you wanted to check your standing in the rankings would be a bit annoying...)

Will this be the game to get me off COD4...?

I think I'll keep playing as Peach.

Eh...it's a nice feature, but Smash Bros. was the game I really wanted Mii support in, to be honest. What would have been better than playing as Solid Snake and lobbing a grenade into the face of Nicolas Cage, Pat Butcher and David Bowie? Next to that, just racing against them won't seem half as fun...

Is that a Baby Princess Peach in the Moo Moo Farm-esque track shot?

The res is quite low, but it certainly looks like it. Apparently, that track's called Moo Moo Country.

donkey kong doing 'rad stunts' on a motorbike just looks wrong. why oh why oh why do we need motorbikes in mario kart, thought it was supposed to be all about, y'know, karts?

Probably from the same school of thought, as the chap who elected to put skiing in SSX.

But since, judging by the trailer, it looks like every character rides a bike (in that race-type?) you could always just stick to karting races. Though, I don't mind bikes. Something else to try. It's a fair bet that the emphasis will remain on arcade fun, and they probably do go a bit faster than the karts on the straights, as well.

Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing what Mario Kart on Wii will bring. :)
