Put motorbikes in Burnout Paradise

Patch now available for 360 and PS3.

A new patch introducing motorbikes to Burnout Paradise is now available for download.

As outlined on the official website, there are two bikes to choose from and dozens of new events to take part in. Plus there's a now customisable day and night cycle and dynamic weather.

The patch is now out for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game - just boot up your machine and follow the instructions.

It isn't delayed on the 360?!

Hurrah, this will finally drag me away from the enjoyable bug-fest that is Mercenaries 2.

All this stuff, this DLC, for Free, is just great. The Year of Paradise is coming to fruition.
  • Thunderbolt #2 3 years ago

Mmmm, I suppose its gotta be free after a lot of people were turned off this current Burnout.

I'll wait for the next one to see if they have fixed the core mechanics of the game i.e restarts etc
  • jonsaan #3 3 years ago

GREAT. Now I can't wait to get home. What time is it? oh....

    Great stuff!

    You can't crash the bikes?!???!
  • linksdad #12 3 years ago

the downloadable content appears to be damaged and cannot be used :((((
  • BBIAJ #13 3 years ago

@ link'sdad: Yup, had that on my 360, it disabled the Cagney update at the same time too, which has since disappeared from the XBLMP...

Can anyone confirm if it is the same with the PStriple version or not?
  • Hobo #14 3 years ago

Thunderbolt: "Mmmm, I suppose its gotta be free after a lot of people were turned off this current Burnout. "

Well there speaks someone who cried when the demo didn't have a restart option and just ignored the game!
  • dazrichards #15 3 years ago

PS3 version worked fine for me this morning
  • crwoody #16 3 years ago

just had a quick go on this. The day/ night cycle is kinda cool and I'm loving the bikes! And to who ever said it you can crash the bikes but the rider just teleports to a cafe in Birmingham for a cup of tea or something so you can't make him fly :(
  • DanWhitehead #17 3 years ago

360 update works fine for me. And you can crash the bikes, but the rider disappears. Having ragdoll riders being splattered all over the road would change the rating.
  • Hobo #18 3 years ago

Is the update on the store, or just when you load the game on 360?
  • BBIAJ #19 3 years ago

@ DanWhitehead: Do you have the Cagney update on your HDD?

Are you using a retail or debug unit?

I'm just trying to rule out all the different possibilities is all...
  • Darren #20 3 years ago

I still don't think Paradise is the best Burnout in the series but these free "expansion" updates are still very welcome nevertheless. I shall update the game on my PS3 later. :)

P.S. Is the Xbox 360 update borked... AGAIN? :?
  • asphaltcowboy #21 3 years ago

Every time, you can always guarantee some idiot comes in to talk about restarts 8)
Meanwhile, everyone else will be thoroughly enjoying what is my personal GOTY!
  • agparrot #22 3 years ago

I'm guessing here, but perhaps there is no separate Cagney and Bikes update and they have coagulatified the two... 'Bikes' is a hefty 450mb of data, and if that was added on to the 400mb from Cagney, that would mean 850mb of DLC from those two things, which just feels on the high side.

    Happy to be proven wrong.

I had trouble with 'damaged' DLC when I did Cagney, but switching it off and switching it on again did fine for me.

/crosses fingers as Download is in progress.
  • DanWhitehead #23 3 years ago

It's a retail console. It downloaded another update before it prompted me to download the Bikes pack, not sure if that was Cagney or not.
  • Beano #24 3 years ago

"You can't crash the bikes?!???! "

    Sure you can.
  • Garulon #25 3 years ago

Time for EuroGamer to do a Burnout Paradise updated retrospective, I think. Or wait for islands if they want more bumph...
  • Thunderbolt #26 3 years ago

    Hobo,

'Well there speaks someone who cried when the demo didn't have a restart option and just ignored the game! '

Nope, didn't get the demo but bought the game as I have loved the franchise and Burnout 3 being my favourite. Tried it, didn't like it and traded it. I just found it got really old really quick.

I'm glad other people liked it and its their GOTY. Wipeout HD gets universal praise but hasn't fundamentally changed for 10 years whereas I would just like to play the Burnout that I know and love, Surely restarts is not such a big deal to implement and you would have the best of both worlds if you wanted to turn it on/off. I''m mean they have just added bikes for gosh sakes.

Shesh some people are really touchy

I know I should work right now, but I just dowloaded the DLC (360) and had a quick spin in Paradise City to check out the new bikes. No problems at all. New challenges are welcome.
I loved every single Burnout game until now, but this one is the best when it comes to racing, frankly. Exception is the somehow slightly shitty crash mode. The updates make it even better.
  • Hobo #28 3 years ago

Or deluded to think that a lot of people "turned off" after the current game.

Got to agree with this - as you know there is a friendly and vaguely staunch EG userbase for Paradise, and despite the fact I'm being a bit presumptuous to proffer an opinion for more people than myself, an approximate consensus is that the online aspect of Paradise - hanging out in the city, helping other players complete their challenge lists, racing and Takedowning and generally tooling about, really makes this game a little bit special.

I do understand the concerns of the restart crowd, but this isn't like other Burnout games, even though it is Burnout.

I agree with the Garulons re-review sentiment, too.

Just had a go at the bikes, feel surprisingly natural, and a great, FREE, addition.

Deleted the bikes pack and redownloaded. Worked like a charm. Played a quick race seems good, bike handling seems very reasonable.
  • Garulon #31 3 years ago

"its a shit game regardless of how many updates. good graphics thats it. ill stick with PGR4 - GREAT game, shit graphics. "

Huh? PGR4 has the best graphics of any racing game ever - yes, this includes the Gran Turismos. Have you seen the rain on that thing, let alone the fog?

    I love both. :)
  • BBIAJ #32 3 years ago

Hmm, must have just been a dodgy download. I deleted it, re-downloaded it, and now it works, no re-booting required.

I played the Fracture demo in the meantime, which has since gone from me being undecided about to going straight onto my must buy list; I thought it was awesome!
  • chronom4n #33 3 years ago

just dowloaded the patch and i have to say... the handling of the bikes is just phenomenal plus they are just beautifuly modelled I like the biker chick! They seem to have got the weight of the bikes just right and the speed is seriously something else. As the patch was downloading I'd been listening to major nelson and the guy from criterion came on and was being interviewed and he began talking about the bikes and the extra features) one of which is a day and night cycle/weather cycle and now depending on what time of the day you are playing the game at the game will run parallel to that your clock. sweet just like MSR on dreamcast. but overall a good foray into my 1st proper download patch for me.

@Garulon - I agree... I can't believe anyone thought the visuals in PGR 4 were crap. IMHO, PGR 4 was the best looking racing game on the Xbox 360 until Race Driver GRID came along but even then Codemaster's awesome game cannot compete with the sheer amount of variety and detail packed into Bizarre Creation's under-appreciated classic. An absolute gem of a game in my book, plays superbly, it's super addictive and looks and sounds a treat to boot.
  • carrotcake #35 3 years ago

yeah when're they gonna release the PSN version of the game that includes all updates
  • chronom4n #36 3 years ago

i agree that PGR4's visuals are absolutely kick-ass. I especially like the fog effects as hammering around macau's fast sraights and kinks in the fog with a bunch of hyper cars is just hear-pounding. But I still very much enjoy the replay quality of GT4 for some reason. could be the way the camera moves or something else but in terms of gameplay PGR4 is sweet. But, I don't like the bikes because they make a little nauseous.
  • groovychainsaw #37 3 years ago

Most welcome criterion, thanks. I still feel this isnt the best version of burnout though, any high-paced racing game where you crash because you are reading the map just doesn't feel right to me, but maybe I'm just a poor multitasker. The burnout peak was somewhere between 2+3 for me, nice focussed, well designed tracks , with a good combative element (althought maybe less car chekcing) would have been ideal for me. I waste too much time in paradise pootling around slowly and bumping into cars gently so i don't miss the next junction. Not quite right methinks...
  • penhalion #38 3 years ago

Yep I meant that the rider simply disappears and it resets you. I don't consider that a crash. Especially when a certain other game allows you to see the driver doing a serious version of superman after every crash...
  • Azazel #39 3 years ago

  • Ged42 #40 3 years ago

    Azazel: m0t0rb1kes!

lol i was wondering when someone would say that.

Just been having a zoom round and having loads of fun, though they need to add a big fat Harley Davidson-a-like hog bike.

I wonder if there is any chance of EA letting Criterion make a new Road Rash game.
  • dsmx #41 3 years ago

I always felt that burnout 2 was the best driving game of the series, burnout 3 was the best overall game as it was just so much fun and the series went downhill after that. Interesting how EA bought the company just before burnout 3 was released.
  • Blackthorned #42 3 years ago

    @Ged42

"I wonder if there is any chance of EA letting Criterion make a new Road Rash game."

Now that is something I'd like to see!

Credit to Criterion for this update too

  • Almighty #43 3 years ago

I've downloaded the update this morning, and it was 154 mb (PS3), but I saw that some people had to download 450 mb... Is there something wrong with my update? :p
  • david78 #44 3 years ago

It'll include all the other updates with it, I guess.
Is that on PS3 though? The 360 makes you go 450mb and I have the old updates.
  • PrivateJoker #45 3 years ago

To all the people with nothing better to do other than whine and complain about any free content or updates, why dont you stick your heads in the sand and only come up for air when you've got something positive or at least constructive to say.

No, you're right, that's all manner of wrong, as far as BP is concerned. ;) You just need to pay attention for the blinking street signs, and audio cue for when to turn into a new street if you're heading towards a checkpoint. Leave the map be, and keep focussed on the road ahead, and the street indicators at the top will naturally be in your view.
  • RedSparrows #49 3 years ago

pfft, anyone who doesn't know their way around after a few hours is in trouble beyond help. nothing better than an online race, burning down the southern road, running from City to Ranch, and taking a corner at absurd speeds, and pulling it off.
  • smelly #50 3 years ago

Hey EG.. can we have a "re-review" of this game with all the add-ons applied?

I never bought it originally (put off by the demo).. but with the add-ons it now REALLY appeals to me...
  • smelly #51 3 years ago

So does the rider fly off the bike following a crash? or any other cool stuff? Being burnout i expect some slow motion crazy antics!
  • chronom4n #52 3 years ago

smelly, to answer your query, no the rider does not fly off the bike nor does the bike get totally mangled up. If you go crashing into a wall or car, all you see is the bike zipping along the floor and nothing of the rider. I am disappointed because I was expecting that to be part and parcel of the whole package. plus no nitrous for the bikes.
  • smelly #53 3 years ago

    Booo!

Bummer that. That could've been quite cool.

Burnout without crazy crashes seems weird.

Still drawn as to whether to buy this game or not... is it really any good? I thought the demo was a bit shit...
  • Garulon #54 3 years ago

"Still drawn as to whether to buy this game or not... is it really any good? I thought the demo was a bit shit... "

I thought the demo was shit too. The game however is just awesome; there's literally nothing like it.
  • RustyBullet #55 3 years ago

Had a blast on the bikes last night and i have to say they are pretty cool. Better than i thought it was going to be. Like the day night changes as well.
  • Madafunkola #56 3 years ago

Does anyone else feel that this is like a different game?
What I liked about Burnout Paradise was that everything felt very integrated and fluid, but the bikes are almost isolated from the rest of the game! Less traffic, only burning routes - why no races??!! And if you are online - everyone has to be bikers, and you cannot change during the session. Crashes are underwhelming and you can't even launch a race between friends on bikes.
Sorry to moan about a FREE update, and I do love the bikes, but I feel that they have been unnecessarily limited in relation to the rest of the game.

    /rant off
  • nippy58 #57 3 years ago

Madafunkola has a good point when he said "Does anyone else feel that this is like a different game? " I can see where he's coming from but the mere fact that a game I bought in February is still keeping me entertained and without further outlay is nothing short of outstanding.
Yes the bikes do seem a little divorced from the rest of the game but the bike pack is much more than that. I know the paradise island like the back of my hand but play it at night and it could be completely different city!
For those of you who don't have burnout - buy it then play it for at least a couple of hours before making judgement. The first cars you get are crap to drive - they handle poorly and are slow but you soon get better cars, better handling and most importantly better knowledge of the island.
Bikes are a pleasure to drive and although the crashes are nowhere near as good as the cars you have to appreciate that:
    a) A car can take a fair amount of punishment before it stops running where as a bike simply wont.
    b) The rider has to disappear otherwise it would be too realistic and the rating would have to be changed. After all the cars are empty and no-one moans about that!

    WELL DONE CRITERION!

What makes the game even more appealing to me is knowing it is hand crafted right here in the UK

  • Madafunkola #58 3 years ago

    @ nippy
I totally agree with you and spent a fair few hours zipping around paradise on the bikes with some friends, but wouldn't you love to actaully race 7 other bikes or see who would fair best in a bike vs car race?

Also - my money is on the Island expansion to be released on the one year anniversary of it's release, hence the "year of paradise" tag.

@smelly, do not pay more than £15 for the game at best because after all the hype surrounding the game on the crash.fm podcast and vidcast, i am disappointed.

  • nippy58 #60 3 years ago

    @Madafunkola

You are right. I think there is a good chance that racing will be added in a future DLC as surely it is not a major addition to what is available now. The fact that there are only 2 bikes 'to start with' means that something is afoot. I am not sure how much content Criterion can keep adding for free so I have a feeling that the next phase of DLC will be chargeable and by then will be well worth the 1200? odd points. I would not think twice about paying for the bikes pack so selling an extra island should be easy.
I hope the island will be ready for xmas which could ( if you tie that in with the original release date of December 07) be the end of the 'year of paradise'.......
