Pure PC demo now available to download News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

2 October, 2008

A new demo for the PC version of Pure has popped up on the internet.

It weighs in at 1.9GB, and features a tutorial plus the Mount Garda track.

Pure, you may recall, is the off-road racing game from Black Rock and Disney Interactive. Kristan reckons it's dead good - 8/10 good, in fact.

There are plenty of links to the demo over on Blues News.

From what I've heard, this game has been optimised to run well on the PC and while the console versions look and run absolutely lush, this version obviously has the advantage of being able to run at 60 fps at insanely high resolutions if your setup is powerful enough. A really, really terrific game, one of the highlights of the year so far and it came totally out of the blue.

I tried it and it does indeed run very smoothly and looks pretty nice.

Unfortunately, I find it pretty boring and while doing big jumps is fun at first and by far the best thing about the game, that gets old pretty quickly. It's a long way from an 8/10 for me.

I've got to agree with skillian here.

The game's your typical American scream-in-your-face intense coolness-fest with the depth of a baby basin, that is all too usual today - especially when it comes to the console market.

Maybe I missed something though, but between wanting to butcher the annoying announcer and not finding anything very appealing with the shallow gameplay, I couldn't bare giving it more than 10 minutes of my time. I may have to go back and try it a bit more to see if there's anything I missed, although I doubt it.
