Pure dev teases new racing game News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

13 February, 2009

Pure developer Black Rock Studio appears to be working on a street racing game.

That's according to leaked footage on YouTube (spotted by Kotaku) that bears the developer's logo and shows flashes of sporty road cars crashing and smashing their way around an urban course.

The short clip ends with a "To Be Continued March 11th 2009" promise.

Platforms, dates or any supporting details are scarce. We've contacted Black Rock Studio owner Disney for comment.

The Brighton-based developer earned plenty of praise recently with Pure, delivering an arcade racer based on going fast, jumping high and doing ridiculous aerial tricks. Pure fun, we reasoned, and awarded 8/10.

Looks like a Burnout clone. EA better make a new SSX because Pure is the only game in that style that's been made in a long time.

Pure was awesome if a bit light on content. I was hoping for an expanded sequel at some point but I'm still interested in this anyway as Black Rock Studio are a quality developer who made the cracking MotoGP series on the Xbox and 360. I've forgiven them for MotoGP 06 though!

Oh please no, just make a Pure 2 if you're doing another racing game.

Don't Disney know that street racing games are so 2006...?!

Yeah! A Burnout clone. I've been looking for something to fill the Burnout sized hole Criterion left when they made Burnout Paradise all GTA-esque and free roaming. Perhaps this can fill the gap.

cant agree with ' pure is a good game ' . it was nice but I am so sick of cheating elastic AI ' racers ' . its just no fun and I expect more of AI competition at this stage in gaming tech . its lazy and old .

Correct me if I'm wrong but arn't the guys who did Pure basically Climax? But chaged there name to Blackrock after being bought by Disney?.... If so there track record is the Moto GP 1&2 on the original xbox (there's no doubt more) and pure! Apart from Criterion I can't think of any other developer who can churn out consistantly top notch racing games at will. Whatever there up to can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned!

OK, looks like 2009 is going to be totally over-saturated with street racers, all of which will probably be near identical.

So, whoever has the biggest pockets for marketing will be the winner, simple as.
