I believe this has already been decrypted. Probably the next custom firmware jobbie will be based on it.

Indeed it was. The hackers claim that they are now capable of decrypting any new firmware SCE releases.

Surprisingly Sony put in a "conserve memory" option in the web browser, now my PSP doesn't choke when it's loading a good number of pictures :)

Which is normally 3 max.

So a new update to allow the purchasing of PS1 games without needing a PS3...

Oh. Still at least the browser memory fix will be useful

with the hacked firmware you can take a ntsc ps1 rom and convert it to run on a psp.

you can buy a psp and never have to give the stinking company (sony) any more money cos of the number of cool things you can do with it. the crappy loading times disappear too.

I'd love to know the proportion of people who revert to older firmware to use pirated games vs homebrew. I'm guessing the pirated games option might be ever so slightly more popular?

But of course no one, especially not EG, must ever EVER say that that's what people really downgrade the firmware for. No no, it's really because there's armies of people who want to play homebrew pacman and read ebooks.

It's a shame the Dark Alex firmwares support unlimited loading of ISOs.

A better idea might be to only allow running of an ISO that has been ripped from that PSP, or something like that.

I intend to move over to 3.03 oe-c, but I refuse to run pirate games. I'm more interested in:

a) Playing full-res movies off memory stick
b) Playing PS1 games on it
c) Running eBook software
d) Running other application software (i.e. file utility software, email software)
e) Making a port of Elite for it...

"Playing PS1 games on it"

Which you don't own/are illegal if not purchased through the PlayStation store?

at the end of the day no matter what f.a.s.t. and the like say. every single pirate game is not a lost sale. most roms are played out of interest to have a look extended demo's, cos most games are shite. Also money will be made still cos little tommy gets a PSP now because of the roms, however his mam, gran and aunt will buy games for a birthdays and xmas and these would not have been bought without the availability of roms. the ps1 and ps2 was easily pirated but sony still made a shed load. simplistic view i know.

what gets me is F.A.S.T saying is copyright theft. its infringement you nazi's. It reminds me of metallica. i am a big fan, when they first started they wanted you to bootleg to get the word out then we had the napster thing.

ironic how people call Sony the "stinking company", and such like, and in the same sentence advocate the promotion of software piracy. Some people seem to think they have a god-given right to have whatever they want, whenever they want, for free, and that Sony should not operate as a business trying to make money; and that if what Sony offer is not exactly what will pander to their "I want it now mentality", or if they can`t afford it, then that means Sony are evil. Downgrading of PSPs is clever stuff. The hackers who work out how to do it are bright sparks, for sure, and a lot brighter than the the "we beat $ony lollerz $ony you suck" crowd, who leach off the hackers` success, but at the end of the day hacking promotes piracy. "Backup" is a euphemism for "Pirate Copy". If, like me, you started gaming on a Megadrive, then you will understand that the PSP is an astounding piece of hardware - that something so small can play 3D games and do some much other stuff is incredible, but the spoiled brats who populate the internet don`t appreciate it and will probably kill it. We would possibly have direct to PSP downloads of PS1 games now, if it wasn`t for the hacking/piracy scene. Some kids today...... yuck. If I was Sony I would have some of them up in court, but I suppose they`re nicer than me.

I'm on 3.03 oe-c and I don't have the slightest urge to play backup PSP games. For a start I imagine the whole thing is a pain in the neck without a huge memory stick, which would probably cost more than all decent PSP games anyway if bought preowned.

Playing my original PSX games on the go is my only reason. It's just as illegal in the eyes of the law but I don't feel anything like a pirate for it.
