PSP dominates Japanese hardware charts

Console sales see slight bump.

Sony's PlayStation Portable once again topped the Japanese sales charts for the week ending 2nd May, selling 61,205 units on the strong launch of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The Nintendo DS took second place, selling 45,265 units despite having the week's best-selling game in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, according to statistics released by Media Create.

In the console space, the PS3 once again edged out the Wii, selling roughly 2000 more units for the week. Both consoles were up substantially from the week before, to the tune of a roughly 5000 unit increase for the PS3 and a 7000 unit increase for the Wii.

But it was the Xbox 360 that saw the week's largest increase, percentage-wise, jumping from a horrid 2214 units sold a week ago to a slightly less horrid 4943 units this past week.

The 123 per cent weekly increase was likely caused by a newly released bundle that paired Forza Motorsport 3 and Japanese best-seller Bayonetta with the 120GB Elite version of the system.

As usual, the PS2 backstopped the week's hardware list, selling 1577 units.

Sony must be really pleased overall. We all laugh at how they perform but it's not bad at all, it's only because they were so dominant it looks bad now.

Guessing MGS isn't available on the Japanese PSP Store or as a PSP-Go MGS Bundle, Sony's last hope to sell some Go's has just passed them by.

'to the tune of a roughly 5000 unit increase for the PS3 and a 7000 unit increase for the Wii'....?

So what are the actual numbers? I don't know what happened to eurogamer. Most of the time they are reporting non news, then when they do have something of interest to report they cant even get the basics right.

Just give us the numbers. That would be much better than your ramblings.

    Agreed

Althought to be fair, EG do normally list the actual sales numbers. It must be lazy Saturday over at the EG towers.

wow,the ps3 outperforming the wii in japan! i guess japanese civilians are more fit than westerners thus they don't need the wii to keep fit like people in the west.

I remember the days when nintendo wii sales tripledand quadrupeled those of PS3 week after week, making poeple think that the ps3 is a failure in japan...I was sure at that time that those people are wrong...with good games + price drop = sales of ps3 increased rapidly to oytsell wii in japan...I was right about that lol
