I kinda like the look of Skydiving - reminds me of part of Pilot Wings on the N64. Is it any good?

To repost my forum post:

I fail to see why your paying 3.49 for that wipeout pulse pack, you can get CTR for the same price. In the first game we got a hell of a lot more DLC for free, I'm not paying that for 2 tracks and a ship.

Sky diving is alright, but I must warn you, it forces motion sensing on you which the only irratable thing about that is rotating the character around for formations in time.

I got SICK of waiting for Puzzle Fighter 2, so I tracked the NTSC.UK forums and eventually they figured this out:

1) Sign up for a virtual credit card on http://www.entropay.com/ and get your card number and security no.
2) Go onto your PS3 and set up a new account with a fake US address (use a US hotel, just change the house number)!
3) Add a credit card with the name Entropay give you (usually 'ENTROPAY USER') and the card number/security no.
4) Go and buy stuff!

Welcome to the world of 'grey imports', just like back in the day when I get Japanese Strider on my MD, except that came on a cart!
BTW - Got Everyday Shooter as well, have to say it is just another twin stick shooter, but I guess it looks nice (would rather have Rez!)

Here bloody here. 3.50 for about 1/5 of what they gave away for free in the previous game? Get to Finland.

The appeal of PAIN has faded due to the constant delays. I mean it is only an Arcade type game, there should be no excuse for such a long delay to bring it over to PAL regions. Doubt there is much in the game to translate into the various languages in order to make it ready. At least some word on why it is delayed.

It gets worse NA territories need to put english, spanish and french on it anyway so that's half of the main european languages done already.

I bought that sky diving game fifteen minutes ago - and deleted it ten minutes later. I'm not sure if the location of the controller in relation to the PS3 is supposed to have any effect on SixAxis movement (only had to use it sporadically in one other game so far, and I quickly changed it to the analogue sticks - not an option here unfortunately), but I'm getting no or extremely slow response on some movements. I can't swivel the character to the left for instance, while I barely have to turn the controller right before he starts spinning around in circles.

Oh, and that Captain Rainbow tutorial dude has got to be one of the oddest and most misplaced uses of a fat guy in a video game I've ever seen. If it's an attempt at humour it completely falls flat (no pun intended :)).

3.49 for 2 tracks and a ship? with 3 more similar packs to come over the next three weeks? That works out to be another 14 quid for 8 tracks and 4 ships on top the basic 30 quid for the game!

I'm a big fan of the wipEout games and have owned all of them, but there's no way I'm paying 14 quid for roughly the equivalent of a single free download pack from wipEout Pure. If Sony want to get the mass market into paying micro transactions they need to be a lot more savvy about it than this.

Got Sky Diving - the formation stuff is a bit borked by tricky turn controls as people have mentioned. The Landing stuff is much more interesting and fun though. One point the game makes a big deal out of "Read the instruction manual" and "Check the instruction manual for info on pulling off the harder tricks". The Instruction manual (which is an online webpage) contains no useful into. A list of 22 moves to perform at the start of the landing game but no inof on how to actually perform them. It's currently stopping me from achieving my S licence as I need 10000 as I have no clue what to do beyond wibble the pad like a loon at the start.

So positives :-
+ Reasonably nice looking for a £3.49 game
+ Lots of content (online modes, leaderboards and ability to save or download replays)
+ Landing game is fun

Negatives :-
- Formation game is shite
- Forced Sixaxis controls
- Online manual needs update to add useful info - like how to play

Oh while we are bitching about DLC ... On live there is a DLC pack for DMMM:Elements at 400 odd MSPs. New weapons, maps etc. The game isn't even out yet! FFS.

totally agree with Dr Damn - the manual is truly duff and the movement is more luck than skill; but I could just be pants...

still can't land on target tho:@

I've played a lot of Pulse, but not made much of a dent in what's on offer, so I feel no need to download new stuff, especially when the downloads were free last time. It's a fantastic game, all the same, but leave the nickle and diming to other platform holders, this is a first party title after all.

I agree, that Wipeout Pulse DLC looks like a rip-off. Shame, cos I was looking forward to getting the same high quality of free DLC as for Pure - in fact that's one of the reasons I bought the game. Maybe I'll think twice before buying the next Wipeout.

RE: Landing on target

The method demo'ed in the tutorial is a little decptive. They come down to 0 altitude over the water and glide in from there. Most attempts at this by me usually ended up simply landing before the target. It is not very clear on what is required to glide along at 0 altitude. I did manage it once and I think it was achieved by not moving the pad at all. The other landing points don't work like this so well anyway so best to try and just land it.

My main tip is to check your altitude against the distance away and try and maintain the ratio. Easiest way to do this is to try and keep the distance = 2 x the altitude. So at 200m away you should be 100m up, 50m away 25m up etc. Adjust as necessary, i.e. if Altitude is too high then brake. Maintain with very small breaking moves. That way you are eventually in the right ball park when close to the target and then just cross fingers and plant it :).
