PSN: Bishi Bashi, C&C, flOw, COD4 pack News

News by Tom Bramwell

25 April, 2008

No sign of the Americans' echochrome demo on the PAL PlayStation Store this week, but instead there's Bishi Bashi Special and Command & Conquer PSone downloads, full releases for flOw PSP and the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack, and even a couple of demos.

Bishi Bashi Special is of course a mini-game compilation from a billion years ago and costs GBP 3.49 / EUR 4.99, which is the same amount you're expected to pay for the PSone version of Command & Conquer. Both should work on PS3 and PSP.

Speaking of the latter, the PSP-compatible version of flOw - the previously PS3-only float-around-in-a-petri-dish-being-arty-'em-up - costs GBP 4.99 / EUR 7.99, but PSP owners can get the God of War: Chains of Olympus demo for free. PS3 owners, meanwhile, get access to a Rocketmen: Axis of Evil demo.

But the main thing, as promised, is the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack, which includes Killhouse, Creek, Chinatown and Broadcast maps and costs GBP 6.99 / EUR 9.99. Broadcast is based on the TV station level from the single-player game, but we can't remember what the others are, apart from Chinatown, which is respectable. Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough. [Forget it, readers. It's Chinatown. - Ed]

Elsewhere there is a Metal Gear Solid 4 "Sneak Out" PS3 theme, wallpapers for Dark Sector (one) and MotorStorm (seven), and trailers for Resistance 2 (the old one), Warhawk Operation: Broken Mirror, Viking: Battle for Asgard (two) and TimeShift (three). Take it all.

COD4 maps are REGION LOCKED.

So if you imported the game to get, you know, a fair price. Do not expect the maps bought from your local PSN store to work. They do not.

Calling it just a mini-game collection is an affront to the greatness of Bishi Bashi.
It's mini-games done right.

THe original C&C on PS1 was a 2 Disk Game, anyone bought it that knows how this works, is there a disk Menu or is it 2 downloads?

Just interested cos alot of the games im waiting for to appear on PS1 Downloads are multi Disk Games ( MGS, FF7 8 9 ), and i was starting to think maybe they wouldnt do multi disk games.

Also for the sake of C&C it might of actaully of been nice to have two seperate bootable games still so you only had to copy one of them to the PSP at a time, as 1 was for GDI and the other for NOD.

C & C is apparently broken. It plays too fast for it to be playable...

.::: As per usual, this only counts for the UK store. Other European stores may vary. (The Dutch store doesn't have any of the new PS games, for instance.)

@HiddenAway
i think some PS1 games might play too fast on the PSP because of the old 50/60Hz issue, but I don't think that's a problem on the PS3.

@tigerdazzle
It's up to Konami, not Sony, to put MGS on the PSN.

Sony mentioned a "big surprise" after the store revamp...What was it?

This update is no better than the rubbish they were putting out before the update.

Many people are still (quite rightly) upset about the way SCEE is treating them: http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=1028

I so want Bishi Bashi Special... I've wanted to have a go at it ever since I heard it had a minigame called Uncle Launcher.

FYI, multidisc games are fine now, the firmware on PSP has been updated to handle this, and the emu scene out there are happily converting their multidisc games into one massive file!

FF7 should be possible on PSP (that would be a very clever move for a DL game), FF8 was a bit crashtastic and requires some fiddling to get running @ 99.99% safeness.

The big surprise? The European store being poorly designed compared to the American brother. Although I don't think that was much of a surprise really.

Not really planning on buying it as I have CnC:First Decade but is CnC is the same crappy resolution it was on the PS? How anyone could play it on that I'll never know...

Is Bishi Bashi fun in solo though? I had it on PSX and the only time I played it was with mates.
