PS3 to get new music visualiser

Create your own images with .deTuned.

Sony has unveiled a new music visualiser program in development for PlayStation 3.

As SCEA's Rusty Buchert explains over on the US PlayStation blog, it's titled .deTuned and is the brainchild of demoscene stars .theprodukkt.

".deTuned is a bit of an odd beast that offers an abstract and surreal interactive experience like nothing else," says Rusty. It's "not exactly a game or an art piece like Linger in Shadows", but lets you "create your own visual to accompany your favorite music tracks on the XMB".

Then, using the Sixaxis, you can "manipulate the given scene by interacting with and modifying a man and his world". You can even tweak your music as you play, too.

A release date for .deTuned has yet to be announced. Here's hoping that it won't be too long before it's available to play with, and that you won't have to be on too many drugs to make playing with it worth the effort.

    GAMES console......

    / turns on PS2 (and 360)
  • menage #2 3 years ago

    Ah shut up.

I actually want this, I listen to music streamed from the pc a lot, only thing crap about it was the same old visuals on the screen.
  • Normski #3 3 years ago

Stupid mobile phone, with its camera, and its CLOCK! Why must they always force me to use these functions that I don't care about against my will?
  • Moz #4 3 years ago

Nice, been a big fan of .theprodukkt for years, can wait to see the project. Hopefully will include some of the funcky drum and bass they've used in past demos
  • Sulphur #5 3 years ago

FINALLY. I was getting sick and tired of the default visualisers. The Earth's pretty and all, but I can only watch it eclipse the sun for so many times.
  • b00n #6 3 years ago

just give us a better mp3 browser please. And the option to switch off track names so my plasma doesn't burn in.
  • billythekid #7 3 years ago

You can turn off the track names.
  • JohnnyWashnGo #8 3 years ago

I don't actually use the screen when playing music on the PS3 - the audio goes through the amp.
    Making this update kinda worthless.
I mean, who wants to look at something when they are listening to music?
  • Widge #9 3 years ago

You can do that, you press select and it switches between full info including time, just track name and nothing at all.
  • b00n #10 3 years ago

  • mgillespie #11 3 years ago

    @bad09

Your just a sad Xbot, slowly realising that the PS3is eclipsing the Xbotch in every single way. Carry on telling yourself you don' care...
  • DryHeat #12 3 years ago

Why don't they try and get Milkdrop2 avs or winamps avs.
  • Toothball #13 3 years ago

It's not a bad thing that there's a new visualiser for PS3, but is that really newsworthy? Don't think I've ever played music through my Xbox, never mind the PS3 I don't yet have. I just stick it on through my PC then watch whatever game I'm playing on the screen. Bit more interactive than even this visualiser.
  • Widge #14 3 years ago

I'm sure its select, its either that or one of the face buttons. Just have a play.
I like that earth visualiser. Nice to slap on if you've got people round.

I would love it if someone decided to do an update of Fluid. That would be a great PSN download game, especially with someone like the Flower people at the helm.
  • Widge #15 3 years ago

    bad09 is a PS3 owner too....
  • schnide #16 3 years ago

It's been a while since I've added anyone on my ignore list.

    Come on down.. mgillespie!
  • dadrester #17 3 years ago

i don't think it's extra visualisers for the music player as such. AFAIK it's a pay for thing, like, linger in shadows.

"I mean, who wants to look at something when they are listening to music? "

Ever heard of MTV? Or VJ-ing? Not that you need visuals to enjoy music but I'm not sitting in the dark with all my lights turned off, that would be kinda psycho. Makes nice wallpaper as well.
  • Widge #20 3 years ago

Yeah, my mate slapped on his XBMC visualiser for some gig thing he was at. I was actually a bit disappointed as he sold the XBMC as having really awesome visualiser, winamp plug-ins etc.... but nowhere near as good as the lava thing and earth affair the PS3 does.

Nice to have something there, the PS2 had an awful grey CD screen and before that, I'm sure I remember sticking stuff through Music and hitting auto-generate video.
  • Rich72 #21 3 years ago

i think it is needed however pretty the earth thing is. the 360 visualiser already has a system that you can manipulate which is rather cool for about five minutes and yes, you do need to be off your rocka to fully appreciate it.
  • SEVQA #22 3 years ago

well maybe they can release something that puts my songs back into their allocated albums rather than put every song on my HD into separate folders!!!!!!!!
  • Widge #23 3 years ago

Is your stuff tagged alright? You should be able to press Square to cycle through grouping options, artist, album, year, genre etc...
I've got my stuff sorted by artist and does me ok.
Streaming adheres to whatever I've got on my PC.

Don't you ever browse through your collection to decide what to play next?
  • bad09 #25 3 years ago

    "bad09 is a PS3 owner too.... "

Shhh, I like the Xbot title! :)

On reflection I suppose I was a little harsh I do use the Earth visualizer (not paying for more though even if it is a couple of quid). It's just becoming frustrating that Sony bang on about quirky or non game software constantly when it seems they are delivering very little this gen I actually enjoy software wise that isn't on the other one. (I say this gen as I LOVE PS1 and 2)

  • peterfll #26 3 years ago

The PS3 visualisers are already great. Bless Jeff Minter - but his 360 implementation looks rather Windows Media Player circa 1995....

  • SEVQA #27 3 years ago

    @Widge

I don't know what happened but I suspect an update did it! As all my music was sorted and then one day my ps3 took every single song from every album and put each individual song into it's own album folder!!! so I have about 1000 folders in my music. rrrrrrrrrrrrr!

    @ SEVQA

Probably was a update, I had the same problem with my videos, I think is was the last one or one before (loose track!). Spent ages tidying them up, labeling them nicely and BAM! firmware update lost it all! Took ages to put right :(
  • Widge #29 3 years ago

That sounds sucky, so have all your tags been wiped? If you go into the individual track with Triangle -> information, are all the fields blank?
Have a faff around with the Sort By stuff. Guessing you probably have done that already.

Yes naughty bad09! I thought it was a bit harsh because last week EG was awash with PS3 game hands on stuff!
  • layleeloo #30 3 years ago

farticusmaximus - spoken like a true Xbot.

Shitty games? Considering most are the same on both consoles and the exclusives are far better on the PS3 then the jet turbine box, i struggle to see that truth? Also, you can not deny the comment (that regardless of how pointless a lot of the shit sony do on the PS3 is), the fact is right - at least Sony continue to offer things and develop for existing users rather than just cash in on a family friend dashboard like MS which actually made me sell my 360 cos it all went wank from then on, or offer new cheaper bundles just to shift consoles not paying attention to the contant niggles and problems with the machine and its interface. Actually, sounds like iPod all over again doesnt it. Maybe apple and MS should join up!!
  • layleeloo #31 3 years ago

hahaha. As opposed to "official" microsoft games? haha. Cos they come thick and fast and are really good arent they haha.

Brainwashing is none existant. For someone who has a PSP, DS, Wii, PS3, original Xbox and High end gaming PC but sold his 360 happily speaks volumes. As you see, if it were not for your trolling you would see that there are about as many decent games on the 360 as there are on the PS3. However you are jealous in the fact that where you have to put up with that childish, sluggish and poorly thought out, mii ripping 360 interface the rest of us do not. Those of us who had the sense to get rid of the old, drab "has been" grey box for something more aimed at serious gamers, appreciate the fact Sony reward its current customers instead of fucking them off in the race to make more money and trying to crack Japan (which never happened, or will happen). So you see, there will always be useless shit developed for systems. Most of which I dont even use which has been put into the PS3 infrastructure and interface, but needless to say its there if I want it.

Continuing with "non gaming rubbish". How much non gaming rubbish does the 360 have I ask you? Ahem "wii ripping mii's" ahem. For one. Half the shit on live that is nothing to do with games Ahem. Needless to say - there is just as much "non gaming rubbish" on your beloved monolith as there is on other systems. Ripping games to hard drive? Cos thats really useful isnt it-especially for the failiure which is Ahem! dare I say it - Halo 3. haha. So, at least Sony tries to improve and innovate with these things rather than leave its customers with a shit product (360 visualizer anyone? I had a more modern one on on my Spectrum, it was called a blank screen)

As for the "languishing in last place" hahaha. Are you serious? Are you actually one of these people who think how good a console is, is determined by sales figures haha. Dream on! My PC whoops any console out there but how many high end £3K gaming PC's are made or sold? Not many. But they are still far better than anything out there. So sales mean fuck all mate. hahaha

Top quality games, blu ray player and now a music visualiser. You really are spoiling us Sony.

Off topic but still, got Super Stardust HD on saturday, it's amazing. Not so keen on PixelJunk Monsters though, which I also got on saturday.

What makes a games console be "soulless" and what makes one have a soul?

I'm guessin to be "soulless" it has to be made by Sony and to have soul it must be made by Microsoft.

The one thing that amazes me about our resident PS3 expert is that he dishes out very high review marks to average or bad 360 games yet every PS3 game is pure shit in his eyes.

/ thinks to himself "why am I getting involved?"

TBH El-Dev, even as a Sony fan, I do think the PS3/PSP is a little soulless. Don't get me wrong they are not the complete disasters but I do kind of feel fartys pain.

/ screams XBOT! in the mirror.

Sure they are branching out to new things catering for all markets in a sense, but personally I don't think they are looking after many of the old faithful fans that well at all. IPs plugged are late in life PS2 stuff including god awful Buzz and Singstar (sure poor old Sony has lost many old exclusives we loved but there are many more out there). Their new IP's (to me, and others it seems) are very "meh" and most has been done to death or are hyped as second coming as they have nothing else on offer so are bound to disappoint (*cough* LBP *cough*) - not ALL but at lot.

The constant stream of money poured into graphical demos, Home/that news thing etc, "quirky" games, non-games is frustrating to many who grew up loving Sony (like me!). Many (like me again!) BELIEVED the "home of the Playstation brand" crap and we want it....NOW!

It just seems focused on "hey look we are different and "quirky", rather than bring the games! The irony is of course that PS2 started this downward spiral in the first place.....

    farticusMax(imumbullshit)

Don't feel sorry for me. haha. At least I am not a troll unlike you. I actually have most systems to appreciate gameplay rather than be so blind sided you cant see the woods for the trees. That, is something to be sorry for my man. Sympathies. One day you make wake up. And hopefully when you are awake you may write something meaningfull instead of "troll of year" award chasing.

Looking at the TYPICAL games you give a laughable 10/10 haha speaks volumes about your taste in gaming and choice of machine. Needless to say, it also speaks volumes how a 360 troll reads and writes on PS3 articles. Its OK you want a PS3 as you know they are infinately better than the beige red ring of death wind turbine, but I understand how you have to protect what you think is good when you are so blindsided to see the truth. Its quite embarassing, but sweet you have to defend the totallu "SoulFULL" money spinning conglomerate that is microsoft. After all, they are the innovators arent they. Ahen, Mii rip off's, Ahem! Buzz rip off's, Ahem, Singstar Rip offs. Do you see a pattern yet? RIPPING OFF IS SOULESS mate.

As for missing things that matter haha. I dont miss a thing - becasue I have consoles and PC's which I can actually hear the games over the consoles noise, so - no, I dont miss anything important thanks. Go back and play your oblivion shite, where the rest of the xbots can enjoy bumming each other :-)

So adding extras is a bad thing all of a sudden, I thought MS did that every 6 months? Nobody's bitching about that.
