Good news.

They've got it working on PSP so it's probably not far off (FFVII).

Are there any sites where people can contribute info on what BC issues (if any) a game has on the PS3?

I tried Dog's Life and there were a lot of missing polygons (mostly in cutscenes). Including one bit where the dog's eyeballs disappeared.

Oh great. You load up Dog's Life for your kids to play and it turns out to be a survival horror game about ghost dogs with no eyes.

Sony promised that it would continue to support last generation of games with software updates to the system.

That's what a psychiatrist would call a reverse lobotomy.

The most recent update was v1.6, which went live on 23rd March and significantly increased the amount of PS2 titles playable on the new console.

well, seeing as prior to the patch, it couldn't play any PS2 games, then any compatability would be a significant increase

At home I use FF and NoScript (Javascript blocker) which blocks most ads, while at work most of the ads are blocked by the web filtering software

I really hope they fix at least most of the high profile PS2 games to work on PS3. It can't be that hard because there's like only 10-20 games on that list.

This seems like non-news to me. Surely we all knew that further compatibilty would come in the next firmware patch!

Roll on E3, so little new announced this time of year as all the devs hold back for E3. Also annoiied it's not open to public any more, was thinkning of going this year :o(

"It's one of a handful of PS2 titles that has noticeable issues"

must be a pretty big hand. From what I understand most titles have some issues, most notably slowdown and problems with FMV

I tried Dog's Life again on the PS3 and this time the disappearing polygon problem was not present.

I'm guessing we'll get Firmware updates at the very least every two months, so it won't be too long off then. Of course much more important is PES7 for PS3. Yay for region free! ;)

Is PS3 def still regionless?
I know for Blue-rays it is NOT regionless. (But some blu ray disks are)

I still keep hearing conflicking views on game regioning

I think for the 360 and PS3 it's down to the developer/publishers' discretion. For the Wii, sadly, it's compulsary.

Good news... let's hope they include a PAL-60hz option in the next firmware update as well.

PS3 games are region-free (as Sony have confirmed several times) but technically games could check the region of the hardware. However, no PS3 games are region-locked so far.

Bluray movies and PSone/PS2 games are still region-locked.
