PS3 launch line-up takes shape

30+ titles listed inside.

Typical. You spend a good 28 seconds trying to come up with a convincing list of launch titles and then everyone's favourite "semi official" Sony trumpet Three Speech goes and posts them anyway.

So, following on from tonight's PS3 launch announcement, here's the full line-up of software titles planned for release on 23rd March, which - in case you've stumbled in here drunk - is now the officially ordained PlayStation 3 European launch day.

None of them really stick out to me as being must have games.

  • Razorus #2 5 years ago

I agree, the good ones (eg Elder Scrolls) is already out on 360 and the exclusives are not all that. 360 and Wii had a better launch list.
  • raiden-snake #3 5 years ago

23 ill be there, buying ps3+resistence+ motorstorm.
    Elder scrolls sucks!
  • xandoodle #4 5 years ago

    Apart from VF and FN

    /snooze

"None of them really stick out to me as being must have games. "

It depends if you own an xbox360 or not, thre are more if you dont

Even if like me i already own a 360 there is resistance, motorstorm, VF5
  • Heitzu #6 5 years ago

Don't get me wrong, not saying they are bad games just not ones that grab my attention by looking at names alone, MotorStorm would interest me most I think.
  • Psychotext #7 5 years ago

alpha-0ne: VF5 is coming out on the 360. I am looking forward to seeing what the finished motorstorm and F1 are like though. As for resistance, it's been done... repeatedly. =)
  • JediMasterMalik #8 5 years ago

Still getting Resistance though, interesting weapons ftw.
  • Darkuss #9 5 years ago

I'm getting VF5 and maybe MotorStorm! As for the downloadable games, Tekken DR and GT HD here I come!!! :)
  • Tomo #10 5 years ago

It would be a very special line up indeed if the games didn't exist across the other consoles.

Virtua Tennis 3 tho, that would be pretty sumptuous if they've got the serving done well and online play.
  • JayeM #11 5 years ago

There's actually a few there I would buy, only one or two are PlayStation 3 exclusives, the rest are games I've not got around to buying for my 360 yet.
  • LeD #12 5 years ago

    If you don't own a 360, it's a strong lineup isn't it?
  • Bumbuliuz #13 5 years ago

Motorstorm and Ressistance are the only games I am intrested in, and neither of them are a "Killer App"
  • deepspacefox #14 5 years ago

"None of them really stick out to me as being must have games. "

Don't buy them then. Its quite simple. Sony ain't holding a gun to your head.

I'm getting Resistance, RR7 & Motorstorm. (Actually already got Resistance thanks to Ebay. It's been sitting on my shelf for the last two months waiting for a PS3) :)

    BRING IT ON!!!
  • Heitzu #15 5 years ago

Like I said in another post which I'll quote:

"Don't get me wrong, not saying they are bad games just not ones that grab my attention by looking at names alone, MotorStorm would interest me most I think."

I don't/ didn't plan on getting one anyway at least not until MGS4, FFXIII and other big names get released.
  • sanctusmortis #16 5 years ago

I'm worried by the sheer amount of games already on 360 on there.
  • spongebob #17 5 years ago

Too bad Heavenly Sword missed the launch..

I'll wait until Xmas 2007 before I buy one. And even then I have to check first what's the situation is. Probably will get a X360 first..
  • deepspacefox #18 5 years ago

    @ Heitzu

    Fair enough.
Its just that comments like your 1st tend to ignite the 360ites into mass anti-PS3 posting. I've seen enough of that in the last few weeks.

Lets just all play nice. :) In 6 months we can judge both systems fairly.
  • davisorle #19 5 years ago

I wanted to add that it's not that the PS3 has nothing to offer with the tittles said but... 30+ in day one? Wasn't that about 2 months ago? Or even last March? this is sad!
  • raiden-snake #20 5 years ago

xbox360 trolls, go send yours overheating xbox360 to microsoft for the third time lol.
  • JediMasterMalik #21 5 years ago

For gods sake, please don't start an argument for no reason. Two wrongs do not make a right.
  • BadBoyBonner #22 5 years ago

    Tomo

"Virtua Tennis 3 tho, that would be pretty sumptuous if they've got the serving done well and online play."

Bad news on the online front, there isn't any on the PS3 - better dig a 360 out for Sumo's 360 conversion as that does have it.
  • BadBoyBonner #23 5 years ago

FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION - SCEE - Disc

Some of the screens look awesome on that, seen a vid but was hard to judge from the quality, but looked nice from what I could tell with a great sense of speed.
  • chupachups #24 5 years ago

Yeah but how much will they cost?

If the games are £60 they can go and whistle.
  • davisorle #25 5 years ago

"xbox360 trolls, go send yours overheating xbox360 to microsoft for the third time lol."
Dude... did you actually laught with your post?

  • Sid-Nice #26 5 years ago

What deepspacefox said "BRING IT ON!!!" wouldn't that make a great game?
  • dirigiblebill #27 5 years ago

I have indeed 'staggered in here drunk' (bar job) and would like to say that (a) it depresses me to find you all bitching over your consoles at quarter past one in the morning and (b) if any of you suckas are up for some rogue trooper blasting I'm online right now and ready to have your sorry asses. night night :)
  • polar #28 5 years ago

An excellent launch lineup to be fair.

However, most of the stand out titles are already available and afaik PS3 games are going to cost over 75Euro. Sony should really release games at a reasonable price, but I suppose their logic is that if people are willing to pay a lot of money for the console they'll do it for the games too.
  • HazyUK #29 5 years ago

Motorstorm is ace, I cannot put it down. Will the Euro version definitely have online play? I have the jap version, but it's that good I'd buy it again for the online racing.
  • Feanor #30 5 years ago

"360 and Wii had a better launch list."

    The 360 really didn't.
  • smelly #31 5 years ago

    >An excellent launch lineup to be fair.

We looking at the same titles? And it's not exactly fair to call it a launch is it? Especially when its 18 months late to the party.
  • KillahSouljah #32 5 years ago

Thats one hell of a launch line-up, cheers Sony, smacks 360's launch line-up in the face, what has Microsoft's whore Peter Moore got to say about this then...
  • KiLlerKnight #33 5 years ago

'360 and Wii had a better launch list'

Haha, that was a funny one. And yes I had a 360 at launch, thank you.

"Thats one hell of a launch line-up, cheers Sony, smacks 360's launch line-up in the face, what has Microsoft's whore Peter Moore got to say about this then..."

I think your so f**king retarded u pieace of **** cause you freakin ignorant most of that shit is a bad remake of the tittles already out for the 360 in their worse version ever. With the delay and all that shit and still too hard to make them look if not better at least the same good for the PS3? That's pathetic and you are even more for even talking about this shit. Go play ridge racer minus 7 or FNR 3 and tell me why you re waiting to enjoy next gen gaming for that price with worse graphics. Got it? When you don't know shit more than just what you hear DON'T EVEN POST proving how stupid you are.
  • davisorle #35 5 years ago

    @raiden-snake
"23 ill be there, buying ps3+resistence+ motorstorm.
    Elder scrolls sucks!"

Are you trying so hard to prove what a fanboy you are? I can tell just by the fact you have no idea about games.... Elder scroll sucks? Are you stupid or something? Resistence is a stupid unbalanced game trying to prove something with incomplete graphics and motorstorm... ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU ALL WANT THAT KIND OF A GAME? just cause it's a PS3 exclusive with funcy graphics... So ... How much in total? 800 For a piece of Junk with it's accesories.... Smart Smart... At least if Id hear you say that you were going to buy Elder Scrolls I wouldn't realise that easy how much you don't know about real gaming than what Sony passes to you.

Don't worry. Puberty won't last forever.
  • smoothn00dle #37 5 years ago

Sweet! Virtual Fighter 5, Tekken5 dark resurrection..

I want to see how F.E.A.R run on PS3 compare to Xbox360..

    @davisorle
Everyone has different taste.. Halo2 sold 6.4 million copy. Bungie, the developer just admitted it was half bake cake. Can u said every Halo 2 owner's know nothing about game? Doom 3 was another example. Now I look back it was ok but wasn't that good, more like 7.5 out of 10.
    Edited by 1 at 25/01/07 @ 05:17
  • davisorle #38 5 years ago

@smoothn00dle It's like they said.. It needed way more they could have done and it's true.. Plus don't you understand why they say that now? Not to prove that it wasn't good. But to make people expect it to be so so freakin better than Halo 2... Marketing stuff. And I didn't say about Halo 2 but for halo one when I was making a point> I remember what you are talking about :p And yeah I've said before that everyone has a different taste but... Motostorm? Don't you think it's too much that eveyone expecting PS3 is talking mostly about that game? And don't tell me they were a biker game type funs? I wont believe u! :p (BTW VF % is coming out on xbox 360 as well so... Though I don't like VF at all... It would take a lot to make me change my mind for that game)
  • Steroyd #39 5 years ago

I don't like Elder Scrolls Oblivion...

Resistance, Motorstorm, Lemmings, Gripshift and Formula 1, Virtua Fighter i'm looking forward to, ever so slightly disapointed that Heavenly Sword didn't make it in the list.

and WTF is super rub a dub? o_O

    3. NBA Street
    4. Fight Night
    5. NBA 2K7
    6. Double Agent
  • Scimarad #41 5 years ago

Enchanted Arms? Nooooooo! I won't make the same mistake twice!!
  • Steroyd #42 5 years ago

They've actually made improvements in the PS3 version but I don't think that'll save it from being shit though.
  • KD #43 5 years ago

nothing there makes me want to spend 425 for console, maybe in a couple of months there might be something good but it better be outstanding to warrant the cash
  • BartonFink #44 5 years ago

Very solid if unspectacular launch lineup for Europe. Even if you do have a 360 there's still Resistance, Motorstorm and F1 and the Network stuff.
  • Rambaldi #45 5 years ago

"Thats one hell of a launch line-up, cheers Sony, smacks 360's launch line-up in the face, what has Microsoft's whore Peter Moore got to say about this then..."

Technicaly it's not a launch line-up though: it's a launch+ four months line-up. Agreed it looks very good on paper but when you remove the games that are available elsewhere looking just as good (running better in some examples e.g. THP8), playing with a more ergonomic, rumbling pad, for a fraction of the price...

Don't get me wrong, for next-gen newcomers it's ace, but let's put it into perspective: if it IS all about the GAMES, you could hunt around the 2nd hand shelves, pick up MOST of the quality titles in this list and a 360 with a second pad for less than £425.

That said, I am tempted just to use it as a Media Center / Linux PC / TV based web-browser / BR player but I won't be getting it because of it's games.

Oh, and one other little nugget of doom: forced bundles?
  • scoobii #47 5 years ago

Not bad but not great. Think I'll wait a while before I try and pick one up. Does anyone know of a PS2 to USB converter (console port, not PC port!). Use stick for Tekken and it'd be shame to not be able to use it on PS3. Thanks.

LOL and what Rambaldi said. In addition compare it to what's available on 360 now? I'm sure Mr Moore is fairly happy ;)

I've been playing the motorstorm demo qutie a bti this week and everytime i play it i get really excited and the extremely disappointed.

I know its a demo and doesn;t represent blah blah blah.

But teh loadingtimes are hideous (even moving between vehicles on the selection screen takes an age), the graphics, whilst impressive, arn;t what i was hoping for, the control is nto quite right and the lack of rumble completely kills the experience.

The other games i've player so far

Blazing angels (xbox 360 version looks better)
GTHD (looks fantastic, still the same old GT handling model)

Hopefully they'll be something else soon that takes my fancy, but at the moment i'm not loving it, and would gladly sell if someone offered me a decent amount for it.
  • captainrentboy #50 5 years ago

Like every launch line up around 10-15 of those wont make it out on day one,no I'm not a fanboy rambling it's just always the case.
And like a lot of people say,if you already own a 360 then that line up of games is a bit unexciting,I played a lot of them friggin months ago :/
  • t8yman #51 5 years ago

first off, its not a launch line up, the launch was 3 months ago.

    360 had cod2, pgr3, pd0, amped3, nfsmw, and was worth a purchase if ONLY for cod2.

yes the ps3 will be very nice, and yes the graphics look nice, but £60 is a lot of money for a shiny disc that in most titles case - is available elsewhere
  • krudster #52 5 years ago

Rainbow Six Vegas and GRAW 2 are also coming out at launch on PS3, btw. They're in Ubi's own UK schedule - sent out to us on the 22nd Jan.
  • Steroyd #53 5 years ago

Where the hell is everyone getting £60 per game from? :/
  • BartonFink #54 5 years ago

Been bandied about for the past couple of weeks on the forum. If they are £60 forget it.
  • weaselrat #55 5 years ago

I can buy most of these on a 360 is it worth 425 from the off for this machine????
    I really don't know anymore :-(
  • SeesThroughAll #56 5 years ago

60 quid per PS3 game? Yes, expensive.
But keep in mind, it's BC to the vast majority of PS2 games. Upcoming PS2 games should be considered to be in the launch window lineup too.

Personally, since I never bought any of the previous playstations (the last console I owned was a MegaDrive), I intend to collect classics like the MGS series, GoW or Okami. And a most of them will turn into budget titles over time. I hope I can get to play GoW2 on the PS3 in a few months, if I don't get my hands on Heavenly Sword first, that is.
And the network games? Lovely bonus. There is even a full-fledged Tekken game for download, if you don't find this promising, there's something wrong with you people.

As for the lineup itself, if the vast majority of these games makes it out within the first 3 months after the PS3 launch, it will be a very solid library to begin with indeed.
  • peteb #57 5 years ago

would be funny if MS did a price-cut for 360 on the same day. or a bundle with like GRAW and some other PS3 launch titles. hordes of confused punters.
  • SBfistfun #58 5 years ago

  • Renes3 #59 5 years ago

This is a very decent LAUNCH-lineup, although not everything exclusive...but then it would suprise me if you would buy a PS3/Xbox if you already own the other one at this stage.
And with DM4, MGS4, FFXIII and some might-be-ubercool new IP's like Lair, White Knight Story etc on the horizon, Sony just might pull it off after all...
When they'll get their act together once again bit-by-bit, by for example making the online-feature xompetitive enough with Xbox-Live etc...

PS: here on the mainland games (PS3/XBox/Wii) all cost max 60 euro...
  • peteb #60 5 years ago

">An excellent launch lineup to be fair.

Did you read the entire post? I went on to criticise it, as most of those games are already available at cheaper prices. You have to agree that it is a good list of games, just not at the price Sony are charging and not if you already own a 360.
  • peteb #63 5 years ago

i wonder how many people will pick up oblivion and think OMG woow these graphics are amazing, look how big it is, this is the power of ps3 etc etc. of course not realising that its been out ages already and that my character is already so much better than his, but still can't use swords for shit for some reason.
    Edited by 1 at 25/01/07 @ 09:27
  • nickthegun #64 5 years ago

That would be the worlds greatest launch line up if I couldnt already get at least 3/4 of those titles for 10-15 quid in the 360 pre-owned bins and couldnt download a flash version of fl0w, lemmings and sudoku for free......

If you strip away the stuff you can get on every other format, its basically the japanese line up with motorstorm, which, considering the delay, is pretty piss poor, to be honest.

Oh, and gundam seems to be missing...
  • Steroyd #65 5 years ago

Been bandied about for the past couple of weeks on the forum. If they are £60 forget it.

Aren't PS3 games the same price as Xbox 360 games in America....

    /is confused
  • sanctusmortis #66 5 years ago

Yes, but Sony LIKE Americans. Not us.

It all comes about because captbirdseye spilled Sony's launch plans on the forums. Amongst these facts (none of which, so far, are wrong) was Sony pushing a £60 pricepoint. That'll be €80, most likely.

I imagine, right now, Peter Moore is reiterating: "we have 130 HD games. Sony will have... 28 on disc, 15 of which we've already released on ours and some of the rest soon will be. Come on in, the picture's lovely." In other words: meh.
  • rommy667 #67 5 years ago

Any one who gets this over priced & over hyped hunk of junk with its CRAPPY launch titles is either A stupid B stupid C even thicker, lets face it we wait 4 months more than us/jap and we have to pay MORE 630 euro is like 750 us dollar what a JOKE after a 4 month wait psp is 10000 times better than ps3 i wont even mention x360 or wii...............
  • Mordum #68 5 years ago

Well, Play.com are listing their PS3 games at $49.99, still £10 more than the 360 games have been selling for since launch on the same site, but not as bad as the £60 mentioned here.

If potential PS3 owners have not owned a 360 then the launch line-up is actually ok. But there are still games in that list that are between 4-18 months old, and you're still going to be charged an extra ten pounds for these (older) games, ontop of what they retailed for on the 360. Thats my only confusion, why someone would willingly pay out for those ported games, at an extra £10 per game. Extra pads will also cost more (£5), on every front it seems Sony are risking it with over-pricing.

I suppose it comes down to who is happy to put up with it, if you're willing to take this from Sony, then thats your choice... if not, then don't buy it.
    Edited by 1 at 25/01/07 @ 10:26
  • Steroyd #69 5 years ago

Amongst these facts (none of which, so far, are wrong) was Sony pushing a £60 pricepoint.

But i thought it was the publishers setting the price point not Sony, so it'd be publishers screwing Sony's PS3 rather than the Sony screwing Britain.

Otherwise all the devs would have followed MS's policy of charging £40 for first party titles.... what the hell happened to that BTW?
  • Darren #70 5 years ago

I deffo want Resistance and MotorStorm with my PS3 but most of the other games I either own on the 360 already (and have done for months in fact) or they don't interest me at all. Virtua Fighter 5 is probably excellent but I'm bored of beat 'em ups and I certainly don't want an F1 game no matter how good it is. I was hoping that Heavenly Sword would be a launch game but it doesn't appear in that list... :(
  • penhalion #71 5 years ago

60 quid for games...Thats like 20 quid more than HMV and 15 quid more than Game are doing 360 games for.

If this continues, then well apart from the fanboys I'm not holdoig out much hope for the machine here in europe. Unless people are stupid enough to think hey I can spend 425 quid to play all those ps2 games.....naw you's have to be really stupid to have that as a reason.
  • t8yman #72 5 years ago

I'm willing to bet RRP is £60 on ps3 games, the BR media is extortionate for a start. Are all games on BR media, or just the ones that run over 9gig? (which will be like -none)
  • penhalion #73 5 years ago

Yea both insiders in software houses and magazine research has proven that this "over 9 gigs for the game" stuff is utter crap and you really only need to do that to accomodate blue-rays slower access speeds i.e. duplicating data so you don't have to seek it each time.
    Edited by 2 at 25/01/07 @ 12:22
  • Darren #74 5 years ago

Play.com, who have updated their website following Sony's official price announcement, have PS3 games listed at £49.99 which presumably is the RRP since no other price is listed. I doubt PS3 games will cost £59.99 RRP, that would be just plain suicidal for Sony when you can get the exact same multiformat game on a reputedly less powerful console for £10 less.
  • Vin #75 5 years ago

  • Zomoniac #76 5 years ago

So five exclusive retail games, compromising a game that's been hammered by the press, a game that's a slightly enhanced 360 title, an F1 sim, Resistance and Motorstorm. Wicked.
  • penhalion #77 5 years ago

    @Darren

Play always do games cheaper than retail so 59.99 is likely the in store price. This does not bode well. When 360 first came out games were 49.99 and they didn't sell as well as retailers thought. The public soon twigged that no way did the games coming out cost any more to make than the last generations games do.

Technology naturally moves on and so do the people using and developing for it. The tools get better too and PC games have been at this level of quality for longer than the last generation has existed. In short rocketting prices is just a way to make more money from people. The problem is that people are getting smarter and simly don't buy that line anymore.

It looks like it's going to take a while for manufacturers and games developers to accept that. Just as it took dvd movies a while to accept that the gullible punter days were over! I will not mention the hurtin' music CD manufacturers got when they refused to accept that people were wise enough to know that they could download music and share it for free and didn't need to buy the CDs at all! They lost hundreds of millions before finally accepting they needed to get in on the cheap as chips music scene to survive!

Play.com have had games at £49.99 for months. If you don't like the price, get them from us or jap. Region free - remember???

They've also got games listed for 23rd march release that are not on the launch list. Guess things will change soon.

    @bunnymc
    "I'm gettin on release
    1. Def Jam: Icon
    2. F1
    3. NBA Street
    4. Fight Night
    5. NBA 2K7
    6. Double Agent"

hhmm.... 3 of them already out on 360 for a long time and the other 2 coming as well... O.o

    @Steroyd
"They've actually made improvements in the PS3 version but I don't think that'll save it from being shit though."

And how the hell could you have an opinion about that? Is it cause you've seen it on action on a PS3 or what? LOL "sad"

"I don't like Elder Scrolls Oblivion...
Resistance, Motorstorm, Lemmings, Gripshift and Formula 1, Virtua Fighter i'm looking forward to, ever so slightly disapointed that Heavenly Sword didn't make it in the list."

You don't like oblivion ( either you haven't seen it either you don't like PRGs so you can't even comment about that game) but you are waiting for the games that you haven't even seen... How can someone not call you a Sony addict?

    @BartonFink
"Even if you do have a 360 there's still Resistance, Motorstorm and F1 and the Network stuff."

What stuff are there since you compare it with the xbox live?Im just wondering.

    @Monsta
    About motostorm
"The loadingtimes are hideous (even moving between vehicles on the selection screen takes an age), the graphics, whilst impressive, arn't what i was hoping for, the control is not quite right and the lack of rumble completely kills the experience.
The other games i've player so far
Blazing angels (xbox 360 version looks better)
GTHD (looks fantastic, still the same old GT handling model)
Hopefully they'll be something else soon that takes my fancy, but at the moment i'm not loving it, and would gladly sell if someone offered me a decent amount for it."

This is what i've been talking about... Waiting so so bad for the days that most of the people in here supporting Sony to a stupid point trying to prove they aren't FANBOYS how much they'll try to keep it in when they get to find out what they have been waiting for.. Im so looking forward!!! :D I'll be right there telling them off!!!! (not people just saying their oppinion. They know who they are ;) )

    @SeesThroughAll
And the network games? Lovely bonus. There is even a full-fledged Tekken game for download, if you don't find this promising, there's something wrong with you people. As for the lineup itself, if the vast majority of these games makes it out within the first 3 months after the PS3 launch, it will be a very solid library to begin with indeed."
"I hope I can get to play GoW2 on the PS3 in a few months"

I think something is really wrong with u dude... Seriously... Some of these tittles were supossed to be from last year... YES. I'm not asking you. That's how it is ( except if u know they were fucking with ur minds a year ago right? ) Hoping to play GoW2 in a few months... BC games... WTF? R u serious? These are reasons to wait & pay for a PS3? You gotta be kidding me dude I swear! lol You don't even bother talking about the fact that games already out on 360 look better when PS3 had so so much freakin time to improve their flaws or whatever. Nice way on trying to make people buy a PS3 so they won't be stupid. R they stupid if they don't or......?
