PS3 Dragon Age: Origins dated News

PlayStation 3 PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

23 October, 2009

EA has given the PS3 version of Dragon Age: Origins a 17th November US release date. That's a Tuesday, so the European release is likely to be Friday 20th November. We're checking.

The game will appear for PC and Xbox 360 a couple of weeks earlier, on 6th November.

Dragon Age: Origins is the next sprawling RPG epic from BioWare, developed as a spiritual successor to the historic Baldur's Gate.

Check out our recent hands-on impressions of the PC build for an idea of what to expect.

So many great games before Christmas, I can only buy so many!
This one sounds brilliant. I was excited when I saw all these videos on PSN last night, but it doesn't seem they show anything but in game films. A bit disappointing as impressive as the graphics were. Doesn't tell me much about the actual game.

Looking forward to a solid review anyway.

I really hope they take a look at all three versions of this game for this review. The publishers will send the Xbox 360 version, which will obviously be very different from the PC version. And now that the PS3 version is delayed two weeks, one starts to wonder why.. THREE REVIEWS!

I agree, need a breakdown on the platform differences. I have a PS3 and judging by the usual quality of cross-platform titles [on the PS3] I can't see this being one to buy for my console - definitely think I'll have to go with the PC version on this one (for the first time in ages!)

I'm getting the PC version, primarily for the game editor and all the user-made content that will inevitably crop up.

Is this a GFW: Live title? I want to know if I still get achievements for it on PC.

Plus, I expect that we won't get 3 reviews, but we will get a Digital Foundry piece discussing the differences across platforms. Makes more sense.

PS - Why haven't we had any Face-Offs recently?

I'm going to get the Xbox version (I'm an acheivement whore and I like to sit back and play these days). I may very well also buy the PC version IF it runs on my laptop (the character creator runs like a dream, and I have an NVidia 3D card in there, but I'm always wary of buying new PC games these days...)

Still, for old times sake I might just buy this on both systems. I have a shit load of GAME points too so £19.99 sounds tempting... ;-)

Can anyone who has played Mass Effect on 360 AND PC tell me whether the interface adjustments make that worth playing again (for about the 15th time! ;-) - told you I was an acheivement whore) on the PC?

If I buy this game, I'll surely do so on PC. Bioware's finest always ran on PC. :)

Even though I have a 360 and a PS3 I'm planning on building a new PC for this game.

I'd buy it on PC if my computer could run it but the control scheme seems solid enough on the consoles (which is the only difference I really care about since the graphics in this game really aren't that good on any platform) judging by Giant Bomb's recent (second) Dragon Age Quick Look.

I'm still having a lot of doubts about the actual quality of the gameplay, but hopefully Bioware will surprise me in a good way...

The main reason to buy it on PC for 'old skool' RPG aficionandos is the PC exclusive, top down, zoomed out view that has been mentioned in previews.

Agree with #3 & 4, My PS3 is the only thing I have right now and I need to know if I'll end up wasting money, especially because I've yet to play or pre-order any of the major releases for this year.

The unveiling of the PS3 version on gamespot the other day addressed any worries I had about that version. And with the Bioware founders now appearing this evening on the EU playstation blog with an
announcement I am pretty sure the PS3 version will be competitive. Bioware developers on the forums has also been adamant that the PS3 version is not inferior.

I'm loving the videos I've seen for this game but, like Darksiders, I've no real idea what the actual game is.

having been blindsided by Brutal Legend - which I am loving to bits by the way - I'm wondering if this is a new trend, the idea of keeping key gameplay under wraps until release.

Anyone know what you do in this one? Turn based RPG? Story driven action adventure? MMO? I've no idea!

There's too many games coming out this Christmas (as always), so I think I'll have to draw the line here, I'm afraid. Sorry EA!

Both console versions are released in North America on 3rd November. So if you have any worries, just monitor the online reaction and reviews from Americans who bought a console version of DA:O.

Also there are two good 20+ minutes gameplay videos on Giantbomb. One with them using PC and one using Xbox360.
