Professor Layton dated for US News

DS News by Robert Purchese

29 November, 2007

Nintendo has told Eurogamer that Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village will be out in the US on 18th February.

However, plans are yet to be made for Europe, but you could always import a copy what with it being a region-free DS title.

Developed by Level 5, of Dragon Quest VIII fame, Mysterious Village is the first in a trilogy of adventure titles based around brain-teasing puzzles by some University boffin and linked together with an overarching storyline.

You may never have heard of it, but Professor Layton has been been so wildly popular in Japan it has shipped around half a million copies since February and prompted two follow-on games.

Regional magazine Famitsu unearthed the third instalment recently as Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel, due to be released some unspecified time in the future. Meanwhile second game Professor Layton and the Devil's Box goes on sale this week in Japan.

Pop over to the Japanese website for an idea of what to expect.

"Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village"? What sort of title is this? Is it based on a Scooby-Doo episode?

You are now entering Mysterious Village - please drive carefully.

Nintendo tells European gamesite that a game has a US release but no plans for Europe? It just doesn't make sense!

Having had a go of the first one whilst in japan recenty, I must admit to be excited about an english language version.

The games have a real atmosphere about them which remind me of the first 2 broken sword games or the early monkey island games. Not su much in the way the game is played but in the way that they are presented and especially how the audio tracks tie in to the gameplay.

Looking forward to this game so much.

good DS titles are few and far between these days, Phantom Hourglass was too repetitive for me in terms of playing through that damn dungeon!

Hmm, it's like Astro Boy meets Tin Tin. Might be interesting, but to be honest the artwork is not wowing me the same way Phoenix Wright did back when the GBA only jap website was all to go by.
