    Why don't they release it every two years with just a stats update in the fallow years. That way they could spend more time trying to really 'evolve' the game. As much as I love PES, I can't help but feel that the last two iterations have taken steps in the wrong direction.

    "I can't help but feel that the last two iterations have taken steps in the wrong direction."

    Indeed. It's more like Virtua Soccer than the PES of old. And sure, it's nice to have a pure arcade footie game, but it's not even that good an arcade-style game.

    I have supported PES since the first installment despite the bells and whistles allure of FIFA. However the last iteration was the final straw and unless the demo wows my socks off I will go for FIFA 09

    Ah, that all looks familiar.

    Very familiar.

    Fifa is better then Pro Evo, the last 2 fifas convinced me that ProEvo is outdated.... it's not a simulator or an arcade game, hell, i dont what it is anymore... i will go with FIfa these time around, more polished, more features, original brands and player names, better animations, best graphics overall (much better graphics) and the gameplay have evolved monstruously.

    I'll stick with pro 2008 for the wii until the pc reviews are out. They better get this one right after the last shambles. Fifa looks very good at the mo.

    Reminds me of pes 2008 with a new white design.

    List of known features:
    * New less depressing white design

    Tempted to give fifa a try but will download a demo first cause I don't believe the hype.

    PES2010 will have a completely new engine as Seabass said after the 2008 crap...this looks good tho so as long as the framerate is solid i will be happy

    They spent more time on next gen versions this year and you can tell..obviously Fifa looks better but PRO Evo may have the Champions League licence (i think) plus more English teams are licenced.

    More editing options so evry team can be official and i will be happy

    Shane86 : Does Damien Duff play for Northern Ireland ? It's clearly Michael duff.

    apparently, this game is a complete re-work from the core upwards. Only time will tell whether thats the case....i hope so.... :P

    And the demo is rumored to be released on the 11th Sept!! Oooooo!

    Personally, i am a pro evo player and still am. Tried the latest Fifa, and granted its improved a lot! But, still feels too floaty and unresponsive at times. I just love playing pro evo, not on a poo 360 pad though..... :S

    And, the top 4 teams that qualify for champs league are officially licensed, so thats Man U, Chelski, Arsenal, and Liverpool....

    And of course, online better be good, especially on PS3..... :P

    Jesus those graphics really do look shit by todays standards.

    I like how the one of Portugal celebrating two of the players are in the exact same pose.
    You'd really expect that they'd at least have enough animations that when showing off screenshots of the game, they could have everyone doing something a little different. Ah well.

    The PES 6 gameplay engine is brilliant, the best one, better than PES 5's. The problem is it's too fast. If they combined the PES 6 gameplay engine with PES 5's pace, and controlled the dribble speed it would be killer. That's apparently what they've done with 09.

    Fifa is still trying to equal the PES 6 gameplay engine. Stuff they now champion like physical play and collisions, it's all in PES 6 already. Even Be a pro mode copies Fantasista from the Jap version of PES and the fixed player cursor from PES 3 onwards. It's going to a be a close one, I hope for two great footballing games though.

    The interface looks a bit naff.

    clean515: Sorry I've never heard of Michael Duff so I assumed it was the ROI team

    I have a friend at Konami (who would not lie) who has assured me this version is back on track at last. He did pan the last couple of games as well and beleive it or not, he works at games company and likes games.

    I for one am very excited about this.

    FIFA 08!!!!!! It's terrible... The animations of players and hideous replay's are disgusting... Don't get me wrong the actual gameplay of Fifa 08 may shade over PES08 BUT when you score on Fifa 08 it feels like you've just booted in a goal at a training ground rather than Wembely...

    PES fan forever but don't get me wrong they have alot of improving to do. I hope hope to god that Eurogamer give them both different scores so we can get an idea of what is better rather than "they are both pretty good, it's your preference"

    =]
  • rotmm #25 4 years ago

    @Lionheart,

    It's a strange thing, but I actually play games for the gameplay and not the replays. :/

    As long as the actual football in PES08 doesn't seem to have the same weight and properties of a semi-deflated football from the 50's, I'll be happy. But at the moment, FIFA doesn't just shade PES in the gameplay stakes, it embarrasses it.

    I don't really like FIFA 08. I have PES but I think Euro 08 is at least as good.

    @aretak
    mate you are funny... you're right though.. it sounds a lot like last year, but if they fail to impress me i'm sold to FIFA09 ( if they improve the sliding tackles of course).

    @freedumb
    we all know of the fixed cursor in PES. I have played a master league with it using only cellini (anyone remember the captain?).
    But how many people regularly play with fixed cursor, or any motivation to do so ????
    Euro 08 on the other hand naturally evolved that concept. FIFA 09 will take it further and I think the new PES will also revisit its fixed cursor mechanics.
