Prince of Persia XBLA dated

Revamp next Wednesday.

Ubisoft has confirmed to Eurogamer that Prince of Persia Classic will be next Wednesday's Live Arcade download.

"It is on the 13th, on Xbox Live Arcade," a Ubisoft spokesperson told us.

Unfortunately a price is yet to be announced.

Prince of Persia Classic is a remake of the first game in the influential platform-action series. This 1989 gem by Jordan Mechner will be brought up to date by developer Gameloft, and undergo a complete graphical overhaul.

On top of the cosmetic changes, there will be a few new traps, puzzles and enemies thrown in to keep Prince veterans on their toes.

The original Prince of Persia gave players 60 minutes to rescue the Princess from her fate at the hands of the evil Vizier - either marry him, or die.

Head over to our Prince of Persia Classic gamepage for the latest trailer and screenshots.

Hey there EG staff. Both article links go to the trailer instead of trailer and screenshots.

Looks quite nice does this. I'm always a top cynic when it comes to retro gaming, but this is certainly worth a demo download.

    Two questions.

    1. Are there checkpoints.
    2. Have they dropped the time limit.

The original was great, but I'm not sure I can deal with an old school approach to repetition anymore.

Looks excellent from the videos I've seen but I'm concerned that what was a great game back in the days of the Amiga might not be now... I'd hate to ruin a great memory so I'll have to decide whether to try it... or not. With the amount of rubbish that XBLA seems to get these days, I fear for the quality of the conversion anyway... :(

prince of persia, pac-man who cares.

    @Darren

Thats always the risk with nostalgia, i.e. that it turns out to be bollox :)

Thats why I find it safer (and more predictable on the whole) to be cynical about retro gaming overall.

If only it was the SNES version remix!

Still inetersted though. Although I must confess. I din't finish any off the Ubsioft games.

Except Nintendo 16 bit snes games for some reason Nintendo Nes games on the other hand... it's less painful having a rotweiller ravaging at your bits.

Britesparc: Congratulations hope you had a good smoke afterward?!

Again, you dont have to buy this, if in doubt trial it out. I remember the good old amiga days with PoP, for its time it was amazing in animation and range of body movements.

I also remember I really get so frustrated with repeated deaths, and never really got past the first 15 minutes and instead got sidetracked with other games on blue 4.5 disks.

not sure I want to go through again the same amount of frustrations I had, If they got checkpoints on this remake, then I ll give it a go just to complete the bloody thing!

I reckon this'll be 1200 points. Any advance on 1200?

whoa i was thinking this was the actual original, this looks nice! (means it'l be 800 at least)

    Fanfucking tastic!!

I look forward to this one !

Talking about retrogaming nostalgia I think this is actualy the way to go : old classics updated to today's tastes. I liked a lot Ultimate Ghost'n Goblins on PSP, Mission Impossible looks nice too.

Indeed, the simple port of the classics are too rude. Playing Gauntlet and Double Dragnon on XBL destroyed all my sweet memories...

It saddens me that this was announced last month and is almost upon us, whereas SWOS was announced last year and is not :(

Hell, Sonic was mentioned at last year's E3, and seems to have died along with it!

Really? Then you must have been playing some very bad games in your youth. Because firing up SMB3 or some other classic right now, gives me a better gaming experience than about 90% of all the tripe coming out these days.
  • pagrab #16 5 years ago

Were there mages shooting fireballs in the original PoP? I don't remember them. And the other thing - it looks like you have more moves at your disposal - I'm rather sure that you couldn't make this kind of salto jumps.

This is one of my fav games of all time.. one for me to get.
  • DrunKao #18 5 years ago

Who the hell do this people think they are announcing a game this big only a week prior to release?!?!

I mean come the fuck on. It's PoP for Christ's Sake. I hope we get more notice in the future.
  • smelly #19 5 years ago

Ive been playing the original on an emulator to prepare myself.. man.. i forgot how bloody hard it was!
  • Dezm0nd #20 5 years ago

More notice? I dont really know what you mean, how would being aware of it a week earlier make it any better?

To be honest, the trailer has been floating about for a few weeks prior to this, maybe you should check out some other sites other than EG :)

Might be my first XBLA purchase as long as it isn't too expensive.

Looking very nice, but they've clearly made some serious changes to the combat, and they've subtly included some left-right scrolling.

Fingers crossed for an upgrade that doesn't piss on my memories of the glorious Atari ST version!
  • NegativeZero #25 5 years ago

I haven't played classic PoP since my Master System died on me over a decade ago. I'll be all over this regardless of the price.
