Prince of Persia to return News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

24 January, 2008

Ubisoft's latest financials reveal that Prince of Persia is to return during the company's 2008-2009 financial year, which begins in April.

Apart from Prince of Persia Classic on Xbox Live Arcade, we haven't seen much of the Prince since he went out on last-gen consoles with a healthy bang in the shape of The Two Thrones.

However, the new game has evidently been in development for some time, having featured in the leaked September 2006 documents some bright spark at Ubisoft uploaded to a public FTP. Back then, the concept artwork and other files were labelled "POP0", so perhaps it's a prequel.

Either way, we look forward to his return - if Ubisoft can marry the evolved platforming of Assassin's Creed to the brilliant characters and puzzles of the original revamp, Sands of Time, then it will be a game to remember.

No word on platforms of release date specifics, but we'll let you know when we do.

Ubisoft's latest financials also echo reports that new Anno and Shaun White snowboarding games are in development somewhere in the publisher's globe-spanning network of studios.

Lets hope it can be a return to form. Sands of Time was the best in the recent series so far.

Yeah, make it a prequel Ubisoft so you can loose all the dark stylings and anger which pervaded the latter two in the trilogy.

Sands was superb. I liked Assassin's Creed as well though. The openness and detail of the cities was incredible. If they use that game engine with the fantastic design and gameplay of Sands I will be a happy bunny.

Two Thrones almost made up for Warrior Within. Could have done without the Dark Prince though.

I think I'm one of the only ones who quite liked Warrior Within (styling and music aside), and thought The Two Thrones was complete and utter cock.

I feel the series is getting worse with each new instalment (haven't played Live's Classic though), and I hope this trend doesn't continue with the new game.

PoP: SoT was the best installment in the series so far. Hated the dark feelings of the other two (with the excuse to make them more mature and appealing, yeah right!!). So a prequel will be very welcome, even if the only "new" feature would be a pumped up graphic!!

Great News and +1 to the prequal idea.

Warrior Within was the worst of the recent series, but it was hardly the stinker people made it out to be. Sands Of Time still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

They did get rid of the dark prince and indeed the sands themselves at the end of the last game people!

At the speed Altair blasts over roof tops, pressing the jump button at exactly the right time (in some cases multipell times right after each other) would have been frustrating, now you can simply concentrate and picking the right path and judging the distances.

Please don't turn him into a goth emo loser again.

Sands of Time ftw. Assassins Creed was excellent as well (IMO) and marrying the two could be great.... or a disaster.

Sands of Time is one of my games of last generation (I played it on PC though). For me, it's up there with Metroid Prime and Resident Evil4.

It's surprising how they were able to turn into shit as fast as they did with the second installment...
