Prince of Persia movie trailer pops up

See Jake and Gemma go at it. So to speak.

A new trailer for the Prince of Persia movie has appeared on YouTube.

It shows the eponymous hero, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, running, jumping and generally swishing his sword about. He's got an English accent, by the sounds of things.

Also featured are Gemma Arterton, who plays sidekick Tamina, and Ben Kingsley, who must be a baddie judging by that beard.

A release date for the movie is given as 27th May 2010.

    That....doesn't look so bad actually.
  • M_of_the_sys #2 2 years ago

It does actually. I'm not gonna get all hung up on the fact that he doesn't even look Persian but he does look pretty crap for the part. I hope they make it dark and gritty like the games.

Ben Kingsley is a nice touch though.

Jake Gyllenhaal is a superb actor...and he'll make the character his own, have some faith and wait to you see the film!

It's all about Ironman 2 next year anyway - but let's see how well this turns out, eh?

Ironman was surprisingly amazing last year. One of my fave action films, and one of my 2 Blu-rays!

It looks like toss, but since when m-of0the-sys were the price of Persia games dark and gritty? Apart from that rancid pile of nu meta crap warrior within? which this isnt even based on

    Looks a bit gash :/
  • dominalien #7 2 years ago

    It looks good.

I like Jake Gyllenhaal's last name, too ;-)

EDIT: Also, Jerry Bruckheimer has a very good record of making excellent first-part films. It's on second and third parts that he falters badly. As long as they design this one to be a self-contained story it should be all good.

Did anyone else feel like there was a bit too much in that trailer? I don't like it when they do that... also im a little confused along with the comments on youtube about the whole ethnicity thing

@fightclubber, i would have preffered something dark and gritty at least Shia LaBeouf isnt there to lay ruin to another one of my childhood favourites

Looks ok. He is doing a good British accent.

which is completely retarded, given the fact that the's supposed to be the prince of persia

I think the film itself looks really good - a proper old-fashioned adventure movie, the likes of which we haven't seen since, well, the first Pirates. Jake & Gemma look good, and Jake's accent is actually very impressive. Alright, there's nary a Persian to be seen, but this is Hollywood, what do you want?

The trailer itself was a bit muddled, mind, with too much CGI and too much explanatory VO. But like I say, the film looks good, hope they keep that lightness of touch.

And sorry to be a pedant, Ryze, but it's Iron Man. Two words. Dunno why that bugs me, but it does, sorry!

    @FightClubber

Good point. I'm getting me game names mixed up. Apologies. I take back what I said.

Me thinks someone has been playing assassins creed too much!
  • beastmaster #14 2 years ago

Ahh... Gemma Arterton. Am I the only one looking forward to seeing St Trinians 2 more than Avatar this Xmas?

    Just kidding. I think.

As for the film trailer, from what I can gather, the sound is pretty much what's in the game for the sands of time.
  • Thalanos #15 2 years ago

I'm with Britesparc. I think it might be alright. They just need to dial back the exposition a bit.

I always thought the (excellent) Sands of Time game had a story and characters befitting a Disney adventure movie. I hated when they made the Prince a gruff cliche action-game hero. Nice to see the old charming/naive Prince back as much as anything else.

i dont know wht you guys are talking about, I think it looks great. Even has some platformy goodness in pretty locales. What more can you ask for of a game adaptation other than it looks at least like its going to be somewhat faithful to the games.
  • kangarootoo #17 2 years ago

This actually looks pretty good as swashbuckling action fantasy films go.

    @JahB

"which is completely retarded, given the fact that the's supposed to be the prince of persia"

Well tell that to the makers of the game on which the film is based.

"Me thinks someone has been playing assassins creed too much!"

Ummm, or maybe Prince of Persia.

The only good that can come from this terrible looking movie is the hope of an HD remake of the original Sands of Time game....all the rest of the POP games have been a bit gash really.
  • Hexagon #20 2 years ago

They should have taken this guy instead. :-P
  • neohova #21 2 years ago

The British/ indian guy from lost would have fit the role... accent from lost wouldnt hav been bad also. then again my suggestion might looked and sound too villian-y for hollywood.

Yes, it's a historical movie after all so he should be speaking Persian. Everyone loves subtitles after all. In fact, screw the subtitles, everyone loves trying to figure out what the hell is going on by reading body language.

Hmmm... think that stomach infection is still affecting my posts. :p
  • el_pollo_diablo #23 2 years ago

I think it looks terrible, but feel free to mark me down.

edit: I mean, it looks like yet another brainless, CGI-porn filled action film. All the wit and romance (setting, art direction, characterisation) of the game appears to have been replaced by all that was hideous about the second Mummy movie. Not that I was expecting much from Jerry Bruckheimer, but I feel like I've seen this film already. Many many times.

  • varsas #24 2 years ago

I thought that that looked pretty good. If the feel and execution of the film is like Mummy 1 and Pirates 1 then this should be a lot of fun to watch.
  • kangarootoo #25 2 years ago

"by all that was hideous about the second Mummy movie"

The second Mummy film was GREAT!

And, the Pop Sand of Time game wasn't that deep you know. I think it is a little early for us to say that the film is devoid of wit and romance on the basis of one trailer.
  • el_pollo_diablo #26 2 years ago

"I think it is a little early for us to say that the film is devoid of wit and romance on the basis of one trailer."

You're totally right, but at the same time this is a Jerry Bruckheimer film, so I think we can hazard a guess about what to expect. And the second Mummy film was bobbins! All CGI and no trousers.
  • actionfitz #27 2 years ago

hmm. effects and acrobatics look great. still not sold on Gyllenhal as the prince. they seriously couldn't find a good young actor who at least looks like he's from the Iran or the middle east etc (modern day persia). He's a great actor just... hmm...
    will wait and see.
  • kangarootoo #28 2 years ago

"And the second Mummy film was bobbins! All CGI and no trousers."

You sure you aren't thinking of the third one? That was terrible, but I thought the first 2 were top stuff (first better than the second, but who is counting).
  • el_pollo_diablo #29 2 years ago

The second one had a huge hot air balloon being chased by a waterfall, right? Hmmm...
I don't think I saw the third one. Too emotionally scarred by number two.
  • trip919 #30 2 years ago

This film will be awful. That is all.
  • Phreedh #31 2 years ago

People whining about him not looking persian should get their heads out of their arse... Persian = caucasian. Like turks. There are ginger, blue eyed persians. There are very dark and arabic looking persians as well. Surprise surprise, it's like the rest of the world. And as most of the world, Iran has a toss pot leader! \o/

  • SeventhSon #32 2 years ago

    one to rent I think.

    @M_of_the_sys
Sadly Ben Kingsley being in the film does not guarantee it's any good. I'm still trying to work out why I actually sat through the whole of BloodRayne. :)
