Prince of Persia gets pre-order goodies News

PC DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

19 November, 2008

Ubisoft has announced a Prince of Persia pre-order edition that will sell exclusively through Play.com.

Those pledging early allegiance receive a comic book outlining the back-story of the Hunter, unique codes to unlock skins for the Prince and Elika, plus a bonus DVD featuring the soundtrack, videos and other goodies.

Prince of Persia will be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on 5th December.

Having rounded off the previous trilogy - Sands of Time, Warrior Within, Two Thrones - Ubisoft has adopted a brand new visual style for the series return.

This "next-gen cel-shading" looks very fetching, and POP producer Ben Mattes reckons others will copy the technique in the coming years.

Another key part of the game is Elika, the Prince's female companion, who uses magical powers co-operatively in battles and exploration. She also acts as a safety net, or rolling checkpoint system, and thrusts you back into the game if you happen to tumble from a ledge or fall foul of an enemy.

We'll bring you our thoughts on the next chapter of Prince of Persia as soon as possible. Until then, head over to our Prince of Persia gamepage for more information.

Prince of Persia: The Fallen King, the DS instalment, also arrives on 5th December.

I always wonder with these kind of things: are they just doing it because they're worried about bad reviews and want to lock people into the interia of buying it?

I guess with the crowded release schedule of interesting games this year it's only sensible to try and stand out somehow...

@Doctor_What

every game seems to have pre-order in game bonuses now (which I don't like as it makes me feel like i'm losing out on content if I don't get it, even though its mostly visual skins rather than anything substantial) :(

Seeing as this is form AC Ubisoft I'll wait for the reviews. Previews haven't been that great.

They have a real talent at creating a beautiful world and filling it with repetition (AC, Naruto, FC2).

the next-gen cel shading technique looks crap imo.

unlock skins for the Prince and Elika

Does that mean the normal retail edition comes with no skin on the characters? How horrific!

I am still suspicious of this game. I relaay enjoyed all 3 "Sands Of Time" trilogy games on PS", but ever since the anouncement of this i have been very sceptical. I expect i'll be waiting for a few reviews and a bit of a price drop.

I will voice my concern again concerning this game.
I have the bad feeling that it's dumbed down for casual players like NFS: Undercover turned out to be.
Seems your sidekick is too powerful and able to save every bad jump and tough situation in battles by helping you.
Not sure if her use is limited (like 5 times a level or something) but this is my impression from all the trailers I saw so far.
Hope I'm wrong. :p

The art style looks incredible but there should be a game behind it!

@dingo75

not sure about warrior within, but SOT and TT were easy as hell (except of chariot racing), it would rarely take you more than 2 attempts to pass any given section

that said, I hope there is some challenge in the game

Didn't think NFS was that deep to begin with, but that's my thing I guess.

Can't wait for this game, but having said that *will* wait for reviews! Fingers crossed it's good and it'll keep me occupied at the weekends of December, as I am still living without internet at home :(

I can't be arsed with all this pre-order business. Since it's Ubisoft, I'll just wait until the price inevitably drops a couple of weeks later. ;o)

Having played it myself at the Eurogamer Expo, I'm certainly looking forward to this, as I have since it's announcement. I hope all the cynics will be silenced, because it was great fun, and really beautiful.
As for this Play.com thing, I got an email from Ubisoft quite a while ago and immediately pre-ordered it. A lot of people complain about Collectors Editions being useless. To them I say, shut your dirty whorish mouths. For around £5-£10 extra, the stuff you get is worth it. When it comes to the big releases, I always get the LE version, because I like it. Oblivion, Gears 1 and 2, Halo 3, Fable 2 etc. All good.

A 'bonus DVD' with the soundtrack? Did putting audio on CDs go out of fashion or something?

Not that I particularly care. When they say 'soundtrack' they probably mean 'two or three tracks from the soundtrack' like usual.
