Happy birthday, Sonic the Hedgehog! It's hard to believe that it's been 19 years since you arrived on the scene, and almost as many years since you appeared in a game that was any good.

But 19 years it is, and to celebrate the prices of Sonic games on Xbox Live Arcade are being slashed.

As reported by Major Nelson, the deal includes the first three Sonic titles plus Sonic & Knuckles.

They'd usually set you back 400 Microsoft Points each, which is Ł3.40 in the old money. However, they will be available for 240 Points (just over two quid) this Thursday 24th June.

The deal will last for one day only, so quick sticks.

I've still got all of them as cartridges... I promised myself that one day I'd hook Sonic 3 up with Knuckles to make the ridiculously huge game and play through it "properly". That was 14 years ago. (can you do the lock on stuff with the XBLA versions, like playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2?)

Since you can do it with the Wii Virtual Console versions, I'd assume that it's possible.

You can indeed do the Lock On stuff. If you have both Sonic and Knuckles and another Sonic game, an option to use the Lock On function unlocks in Sonic and Knuckles.

IMHO Sonic CD was the best of the bunch but that hasn't come to XBLA yet.

Yeah, Sonic 2 is the best, but they're all great and definetily worth buying at that price.

I asked this in another thread and also got told sonic 2 so it seems pretty unanimous (he also said sonic and knuckles). It also has the best metacritic score, so I'll be going for that today.
