EA will provide lazy-but-wealthy Godfather II players with premium DLC shortcuts from 23rd April.
The first provides five top-class guns with no questions asked. The money: 320 Microsoft Points (GBP 2.70 / EUR 3.85) or USD 4. The merchandise: the Modern Dillinger, the .700 the Magnum Impact, the Herzstopper, the MG-S1 Sniper Wolfe and the Street Sweeper.
The second provides one top-class mobster with no questions asked. The money: same as above. The merchandise: Jimmy Lira, who's talents include arson, medical training, engineering and safe-cracking. He packs a level-two machine gun, too.
There's a third - the Pentangeli map pack - but this only offers brand new Junkyard and Cuba multiplayer areas. The money: 540 MSP (GBP 4.60 / EUR 6.50) or USD 6.75.
Finally, The Corleone Bundle will wrap all three packs together for 800 MSP (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) or USD 10.

I wish people would vote with their wallets and not buy this kind of thing. This is not really what the whole DLC should be about. :(
But i know its only going to get worse. |

cheats might ruin a game, but in order to use them you usually have to seek them out online or whatever. this new trend of paying for them instead sucks. sometimes i like to play a game and just enjoy the setting and mood, without having to worry about dying while i check out all the small details that usually might pass me by.

Vegard - Just play the game on 'easy'. You don't need to buy extras to do that.
This won't stop because there are people out there that want this. As mentioned, it's very similar to buying gold in MMOs. I wouldn't buy it myself, but for those that do want to buy them, fair play. It doesn't effect my game one way or the other. I actually think it's a pretty good practice if you can make it work - make more money out of the casual gamer, doesn't effect the "hardcore" gamer (except to enrage them unnecessarily on internet sites), and ensures our type of games continue to sell rather than wasting money on minigame tripe.

@ronuds Shitty games? Have you seen what EA have been releasing lately? Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Battlefield BC. All pretty good games if you ask me. This whole pay for cheats thing is outrageous though, I remember the good old days using the internet to find cheats. DLC like this seems to be the Action Replay of the current generation; a rip off

that old argument stands here - Don't like it, don't buy it. The option is there for the lazy to line EA's pockets for nothing more than a few lines of code. Its EA's new cash-cow, and it must be successful as they're doing it with all their games, including (I was sorry to see) Burnout Paradise..

Battlefield BC is shitty. Owned it for about 5 minutes. The rest, ok fine - but that's 2 of 20000. I don't care if it's "in style" or "vogue" to trash EA anymore. I'm still doing it because I still believe it's deserved, and this tactic by them is a perfect example of why complacency is bad! |

If this doesn't sell they probably won't do it again.
And if it does sell they should absolutely do it, because it will clearly be what customers want. And giving customers what they want is the job of any developer. Freaking out at EA for this is nonsense, because it is the gamers who will decide whether it sinks or floats in the end. |

i got the first games DLC,at least that DLC included a nice big wad of ingame cash which proved handy

10 years ago i never pictured us paying for weapon skin packs either:) still, i'm aware that all of these extras are optional. it's just that if we consumers start buying them at large it's going to get worse. if EA, capcom etc discover that people are willing to pay for these kind of things, they WILL stretch it further. it's in their nature;) with that said, i have no clue how well such DLC actually sells. for now i'd rather stay very much against this kind of milking. sorry for the somewhat broken english |

If people buy this stuff, it's not EA'S fault. Called supply and demand.
People are lazy and some will always take the cheapest, quickest route. That's human nature, peeps. Of course, I think it's not only lazy but stupid to pay for stuff you can unlock with a bit of graft, you know, earning it, but what do I know. |

Says who? The "game-morality police"? The commision for "putting in the effort"? Your mum? (sorry, too good an opportunity) "Companies ripping off customers is not new or clever." Its not "ripping off", as the player has the choice to not buy and simply invest their time playing the game instead. If people don't like it they won't buy it, and if people do like it then EA should give them what they like. And if somebody buys this knowing what they are getting and then later regrets it and cries "rip off", they are frankly a simpleton. |

Of course people like cheats, they have since gaming was first around. Rather than giving people what they like, EA are taking away what players like by not including them in the game. They are giving 10% of people what they like (although "like" is clearly the wrong word here), and taking it away from the other 90%. But as a "business decision" it's the right one, you are right. Just like charging £75 for a Premiership ticket, or charging a £5 weekly subscription for a phone wallpaper. |
