Potter still top of the pops

Sales rocket as film approaches.

The latest film may not be set for a cinema release until this weekend, but Electronic Arts' Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix is already enjoying a second week at number one, with sales rising by 29 per cent, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.

Nintendo's new marketing campaign featuring Nicole Kidman helps DS sequel More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima climb the charts to number two, with Activision's Shrek The Third at number three in the Chart Track all-formats top ten.

Starbreeze and Take-Two's The Darkness drops down the charts to number four this week, as does Resident Evil: Wii Edition to number five.

Wii Play continues to bother the top ten climbing back up the charts to the number six position, while Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas is at number seven.

Microsoft's Forza Motorsport 2 is in the number eight position, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is at nine and the original Dr Kawashima's Brain Training edges back into the top ten at ten.

The only new entry in the top forty this week is the Eidos published and PlayStation 3 title Ninja Gaiden: Sigma at number 19.

I wonder how much publishers have to pay for film licenses ? It seems like a guarenteed route to sales.

pretty good for an rehash @ on a expensive machine

I wonder how much of those Potter games are sold on next-gen machines. the bulk will be made up of PS2 and handhelds i presume. I can't imgaine anyone paying 600 dollars for a PS3 and buy a multiplatform game like that.

But maybe that's just wishful thinking:p

Yeah, licenses pretty much are a route to guaranteed sales. How much do they pay? Depends on the IP obviously, but generally? Loadsamoney .... normally amounts to a pretty huge portion of the games budget, so there ain't much money left for things like, ooh, I dunno, game developent - things like that. ;-)

Which is one of the reasons (only one, mind) why licenses suck. With a few notable exceptions, of course.

How on earth does Wii Play keep in the top ten? Has it been out of the top ten since launch?

Pretty simple, its a second controller with a very cheap game, and pretty much anyone who buys a wii will want a second controller for it.

Only if the film does well.

where are Overlord and Flatout... they should b in at least top10
  • menage #9 5 years ago

    Overlord yes, but Flatout?
  • souljacker2000 #10 5 years ago

Flatout is definitely one of the better games at the moment, compared to most of the tat thats in the charts
  • menage #11 5 years ago

After DIRT and Forza it's not that weird Flatouts isn't there, it's racing overkill in one week.

Didn't The Darkness make the top slot? If not then there's no justice because the game is absolutely amazing in my opinion, not perfect but atmospheric and interesting to play. Shame about the laggy multiplayer mode but I never bought the game for that anyway.

Re: FlatOut UC - I agree it's a good little game but at times it is more frustrating than fun with rubber-band A.I. that seems grossly unfair at times. I've lost count of the number of races I've done where I had three perfect laps then make a minor mistake - clips a piece of scenery and slow down slightly - on the fourth and have a pack of three or four cars race past me making it near impossible for me to come in the top three. Which meant retrying the race... again and again and again! While I admit I have been enjoying it, the chaos and competitiveness can be fun, there are times when I've felt like throwing the pad through my TV screen!!!

    @Darren

O i love the AI on that... makes me wana race more

Actually I think 19 is pretty poor for hyped PS3 exclusive. If those sales are represented worldwide then I think it's safe to assume Ninja Gaiden 2 will definetly make an apperance on the 360.
