POP animator talks Assassin's Creed 2 News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3

Prince of Persia animation director David Wilkinson has spilled the first beans on Assassin's Creed 2.

"He's busy making Altair even more beautiful," he said, speaking of previous POP animation lead Alex Drouin, in an interview with AusGamers.

"Last thing I saw him do was getting Altair to swim.

"I don't know, maybe I wasn't even supposed to say that, I'm not sure," added Wilkinson. Whoopsie!

Ubisoft has openly talked about subsequent Assassin's Creed games before. And the entire ending of the first game rather blatantly points towards follow-ups.

However, US boss Laurent Detoc had said the idea was to build anticipation to an even higher level this time around, presumably as part of a meaty and carefully planned marketing campaign. He might be a bit unhappy at this little slip, then.

Still, nothing compared to actress Kristin Bell, who quite wonderfully outed the premise of Assassin's Creed prior to release.

Assassin's Creed proved to be pretty but a little unspectacular when launched late last year, yet went on to sell over 6 million copies around the world nonetheless.

Head over to our Assassin's Creed review to find out more.

Good stuff, a new way to sneak up on people I suppose

I really liked the first one. Was certainly flawed but still, great game

Well that's a relief. The worst bit of the first game (save for the abysmal end boss) was the bit in the docks where a foot wrong meant insta-drown.

So if we're Altair again, guess that means we're still in the same time period? Lame.

No, if you'd finished the first one you'd know.

I really enjoyed the first one, as well as the DS version, but agree with Zomonian that that bit was pretty bad.

First one was flawed (as in easy, short, repetitive) but was fun and good to play every now and then. Swimming is necessary, thank god they're adding that in. Looking forward to hearing more.

I enjoyed the first, apart from the last 2/3 hours of boss fights (it seemed that long)
It would have been so much better if it had remained in the same time period throughout though.
Also if any one at ubi reads eg PLEASE NO POXY QTE's.....I mean it!

I would love to see a Thief 3 type game, actully I would love to see Thief 4 in fact.

@ Duffman

I think Eidos Montreal have hinted that they are going to be making Thief 4. EG ran some stories on it a while back. Probably a good couple of years from release though.

I thought they would make a new character, and it was going to be in Japan or something. I really liked the setup at the end with the Visions of the Future achievement. Altair was pretty cool though, maybe it'll be one of his descendants. Would make sense that way.

I loved the story, atmosphere and premise of the first game but it wasn't pulled off with the sexuality I expected. However, I'm looking forward to a sequel. This news spillage also seems to hint that the game won't be set in a different time like Ubisoft originally mentioned. Nobody said it was going to be set in Japan, that was a theory that was blown way out of proportion. The Assassins have nothing to do with Japan, and setting it there would essentially negate anything supposedly "historically accurate" in the game. To this day, I'm still annoyed the novels were cancelled.

The eagle vision graffiti did offer some subtle hints. I wouldn't be surprised if it is based in the east somehow.

If Altair is still in this game though it confuses me slightly as to what the story will be. Perhaps Altair starts to syncronise with the modern day guy which allows us to use his skills? We have already got eagle vision after all.

If they add more variety to missions, I'm there. That is all I disliked.

I've been playing AC again recently, and I have to say I've found it a lot more fun the second time around. I just kind of set my own goals and took my time, and even bashing guards to save civilians feels less repetitive this time around. The combat is still flaky mind, but you can't have everything.

really enjoyed the game, it was repetitive, but the motion was awesome and really loved running around the rooftops, though I thought it was a bit easy to kill everyone with throwing knives?
I presume I totally fucked up the ending as I got the credits, but I am sure that I did not finish it, plus broke that computer cannot be bothered to replay.
Last thing I remember they were going to find his people?

Wait a second. Why do they thing we want another assasins creed. It was all show and no substance first time around. I think...nay I hope, that people have moved past that crap and will now look at the gameplay instead of swooning over the pretty graphics. That last jibe was aimed squarely at the Journos who swooned over Jade and totally forgot to play the game to it's boring conclusion. As a result we got what can argaubly be said to be the most dishonest set of reviews for a game that I have ever seen.

Or, and prepare for a crazzy, notion, a lot of people genuinely played and enjoyed the game? I know I thought it was great. Sure, I'll admit it was overly repetitive, but I don't mind if a game is fun. If reviews were positive, it's likely the reviewer liked the game.

I for one certainly do want Assassins Creed 2. The ending suggests it could have a whole lot of variety, set in any number of locations and/or timeframes.

Nothing wrong about the time period, as long as they don't forget to add gameplay this time.

I loved the original Assassin's Creed. A little less repetitive would be nice, of course. Oh, and please make my actions in the game matter! If I kill 2358 guards in one town, PLEASE MAKE THEM STOP COMING. I could build mountains of guard bodies. Why not put a counter in each city? If some OCD player actually kills 2358 guards, there will be no more guards! I'd love to be able to thin out the ranks.

More Jade Raymond too, please :)
