I'll say it so no one else has to: it looks like a dildo.
  • Razorus #2 2 years ago

I'll say the obvious instead: Nintendo Wii Remote rip-off of doom. But slicker and much better looking tbh.
Honestly, Sony annoy me when they do things like this. Their unoriginality knows no bounds.
btw, I own every Sony console and love them but still, this is ridiculous.
  • dsmx #3 2 years ago

Considering most things invented by one person are made better by another who cares? That's basically how we got to where we are today.
  • smelly #4 2 years ago

@Razorus : Sony were demoing this tech years before the wii came out.
  • Bill Gates is Evil #5 2 years ago

It looks like... ah... beaten by luster.
  • oerhoert #6 2 years ago

Who demoed the tech first is irrelevant. What's relevant is how it will look to the consumer, and whether the Wii as a brand has already cornered motion-based gaming on a conceptual level, or if Sony will be able to compete.

This sure does look kind of messy from the get-go, but with the right piece of software they might still get a slice of the motion control pie this generation. I'm curious to try their software.

@smelly, Nintendo actually released the powerglove(motion controlled) in the 80s, god knows what they were "demoing" 10 years before that.

They envy Nintendo's low cost manufactured yet highly profitable Wii, and this cock is their only response.
  • K1LLAY #8 2 years ago

Doesn't look that different to the prototype?!
  • Demiath #9 2 years ago

Like Lusterpurge, I still think the PlayStation Dildo would have been a much better name.
  • Ryze #10 2 years ago

Well - it certainly has enough buttons!

Now for the games and to try it out!

    /waits...
  • Rufus #11 2 years ago

I'm drooling at the prospect of Resident Evill 5 gold with Resi 4 Wii controls.
  • Jay-ITFC #12 2 years ago

How many bums is that gonna end up in?
  • the_dudefather #13 2 years ago

If you missed out on the 'lol wii sounds like wee and it looks like a dildo' trend back in the day, you can jump on the 'lol the PS Wave looks like a dildo' now!
  • 00.00.01 #14 2 years ago

So...my mum has had this Sony Move for years but it's bugged (TRC-failure) as the DUAL-shock won't stop vibrating.
  • canIdoyabombsforya #15 2 years ago

"Considering most things invented by one person are made better by another who cares? That's basically how we got to where we are today."

Very true mate. But then the other person usually keeps their mouths shut, not bullshitting to the market and contradicting themselves like Sony has done.

    "Real change" anyone?
    "Hardcore gamer appeal"?
    "10 year plan"

    LOL
  • Praetorianer #16 2 years ago

Yes, and I'd love to see some controllers in different colors, to please the casual female mast...player. No wait...once you go black, you never go back...or something like that.

Anyways, I don't really see the (typical) Wii crowd spending 500$ for a PS3 move set (supposing they don't own a PS3 yet...but then again, that wouldn't be the typical Wii crowd, no?), just to have a similar experience. Games for the hardcore crowd have yet to be presented, and I don't see SOCOM4 convincing them to spend the money for the new control scheme in that FPS. By the way, any control scheme other than keyboard/mouse is inferior when it comes to playing FPS...just imo.

LOL. A keyboard and mouse is the most removed experience from reality you can get.
Struggling with a gamepad and lumbering 180 degrees is a lot closer to a real life battle than twitch twitch twitch.

You know you love it, you lag.

In their hands-on Engadget says "We hate to say this about "pre-alpha" software, but we're feeling lag. An on-rails shooter we tried out, dubbed The Shoot, was discernibly inferior to shooting experiences we've had on the Wii, both in precision and refresh rate of the aiming cursor."

If this and Natal are laggy, could the Wii remain the champion of the motion controllers?
  • systems #19 2 years ago

The colour changes based on the background colours in the room you're in, so that it's easier to detect it on the camera. You don't buy different colours.

Have they mentioned if it has rumble yet (probably not as it's a last-gen feature)? Or even the little speaker that the Wiimote has?
  • onyxbox #20 2 years ago

It'll work pretty well I'd imagine but the biggest problem I see with this and Natal (to a degree) is that anyone who is remotely interested in this sort of thing already have a Wii and that systems is 'the one' for this type of stuff .

Sony and MS need more than a few mini-games to convince the public it's worth the switch, otherwise 'Move' and 'Natal' will have limited success.

Precision and refresh rate of cursor aiming, can achieved with a fairly simple pointing device, that doesn't need to be associated with motion or waggle sensors.
As far as FPS games go, Natal is overkill and doesnt surprise me its laggy. A PC mouse would be a lot more realistic if you could hold it in the air, as opposed to scooting it and twitching it along a desk.

Show me the money, as long as it does not cost too much I am getting my sony dildo maybe two.

At least it will be out before the HD Wii, if they plug it into killzone 2 will there could be a 500 ms lag, it has still got to be better than time crisis 4.
  • Praetorianer #23 2 years ago

    @canIdoyabombsforya
Maybe we have different conceptions about playing an FPS. I don't play it for the immersive feeling, I play it for the game mechanics as a test of skill. Best example would be Quake Live/Quake 3/QW...it's all about flicking, twitching and I love it. Aiming with a wand/stick at the screen is just not fast enough.
  • LiveForever #24 2 years ago

    Does it vibrate? Multifunction?
  • youhavenomail #25 2 years ago

It looks like an I from the Wii logo. Genius. Now if they can just make a nunchuck that looks like a W...
  • Zomoniac #26 2 years ago

Can't believe nobody else has said it yet...

It has concaved triggers! Thank fuck for that.
  • Mkwone #27 2 years ago

I noticed it had concaved trigger but also if you use a move and a sub controller you have two 'X' and two 'O' buttons.

Seems strange, unless it's to cater for both left and right handers.
  • Stepharneo #28 2 years ago

HAHA, it even has the little wrist strap, that is just too cute. Don't get me wrong I'm still looking forward to the possibility of this intertwining with 3d gaming but it's beyond a joke how similar this is.

As for looking like a dildo they obviously decided that to get the hardcore audience they'd have to give us something that we like to hold.

....starting to wish I'd not used the term hardcore.
  • apoc_reg #29 2 years ago

    Yuk who designed those things!

Will they get rubber condoms like the Wii controllers did?
  • Grayvern #32 2 years ago

There really isn't much you can do with a remote design especially once you conceed the need for traditional buttons on the controller. And the light ball may look silly but given that its what potentially makes it so much better than the wii mote who cares.

I don't care if theyre ripping off the wii because frankly the wii sensor bar was always really really shonky.

Yes many people interested in this will have a wii but for people who embraced full hd with big tv's those will will literally be gathering dust hidden away probably unplugged.
  • callum9999 #33 2 years ago

It's always amusing how people can suddenly seem genuinely concerned about imitations when it comes to gaming - no-one else cares about it. No-one complains that their tv is unoriginal and just a copy of whoever invented it, no-one complains their PC is just a copy of other PCs before it - yet for some reason, its a huge problem in gaming.

For the people who seem annoyed by this, name a single piece of electronic equipment in your house that is original and not based on something else.

    @lavalant :
Not the exact demo i was looking for.. but...

    <a href="http://www .youtube.com/watch?v=_PtoxKDcCXc

    </a>

There's DEFINITELY a sony one around the same time period where they put a sword in the guys hand digitally real time, etc.. Basically doing this tech a year or so before the wii was announced.

PS: This was patented in 2006 : [link url=http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story =10151
