PlayStation Home update 1.35 live

New Navigator interface arrives.

PlayStation Home has been updated to version 1.35.

The download is a brief 49MB, although the Home live servers are currently down.

The most noticeable change, a new Navigator interface, adopts an XMB layout to organise and speed up the Home space.

There's some eye-catching new content to coincide with the patch. There's a Final Fantasy XIII personal space for £3.99, an assortment of Ratchet & Clank figurines and ornamentals and some new camouflage threads inspired by SOCOM.

    At last. The old one is crap.
  • Darren #2 2 years ago

    Eurgh... yuck... PS Home... no thanks.

    (Initially I misread the headline as being a new firmware update for the PS3)
  • CaptainQuint #3 2 years ago

    Argh shit, I read it wrong too. I thought they'd updated the dashboard, like MS did for the Xbox. I much prefer the Xbox dashboard to the fiddly PS3 one.
  • Stepharneo #4 2 years ago

    Are people actually still using Home?

    I mean that sincerely, not as some sort of joke about home, they've been done to death, and besides if I was going to poke fun at Sony, well...you know, front page much.
  • Retro_ #5 2 years ago

    Home has such potential, I just wish it was a bit more.... interactive. I want a working plazma in my homespace etc so I and my buddies can watch PLAYTV etc on it... ffs !
  • X201 #6 2 years ago

    Do you think the people doing the Home jokes are the same people who still think "Wii/Wee" jokes are funny?
  • ZuluHero #7 2 years ago

    So I’ve recently started using Home - is it just the plaza, theatre, bowling alley, mall and your apartment then?

    Or am I missing something? I thought it was like a big virtual space?

    EDIT: Thanks for the neg rep! I guess some people just read negitivity when there is none and are just a little over-zealous with that - button. TBH I actually thought Home was pretty cool, and i was sure i was missing something. Anyway genuine thanks to those that answered my question.

    Do we have a date for when Home stops being referred to as an "open beta"?

  • davisorle #9 2 years ago

    @CaptainQuint
    Anyoe that uses both feel the same cause the PSN is considerable immature compared to the XBL interface which has been updated way too much the past couple of years. PSN has been more or less copying most of XBL so it wont take long till they come up with a remake of XBL with minor differences to sutisfy the crouds. Till then Im not planning on getting my PS3 for online. Online will always be my PC and then 360. PS3 will only have it for a couple of exclusives of my likings and thats it.

    Im fully prepaired to be downrated to the extreme just cause ppl wont like the way ill use my own consoles. lol always funny.
  • M_of_the_sys #10 2 years ago

    Hmmm. I seem to remember the old interface being somewhat annoying. Still not enough on Home for me to jump onto it again but I don't see the problem that everyone has with it.

    @davisorle

    I don't read what your write anymore. I just automatically neg. Sorry.
  • Bigglesworth #11 2 years ago

    There are so many great things you could do in Home (mainly thinking along content-sharing lines)... all of them scuppered by legal restrictions, copyrights and moderation nightmares =(
  • Beano #12 2 years ago

    "So I’ve recently started using Home - is it just the plaza, theatre, bowling alley, mall and your apartment then? "

    Use the navigator (press Start) menu to access other spaces.
  • Jay-ITFC #13 2 years ago

    This shit is STILL going?
  • Bigglesworth #14 2 years ago

    @ZuluHero
    Sounds like you haven't found the 'world map'. Home is a mass of seperate spaces, only some of which are linked by 'doors' or whatever (like the theatre/mall/etc).
  • EvilBob_leeds #15 2 years ago

    @davisorle

    People downrate you because you talk shit mate.

    This is a good idea IMO. Those cards with the spaces on where a bit clunky last time I gave Home a go.
  • GamesConnoisseur #16 2 years ago

    I m suprised that there arent any Home supporters here? Is that the signs of how bad things are that there arents fans?

    Would hate to see things so one sided, and another yes I m not a fan but I wont bother to insult or degrade people, BUT if people are saying that this is a much better thing and much improved.

    I ll be happy to know and come pop back in.

    @ZuluHero:

    I suggest checking out the PS3 EU blog and the community on the Sony forums. Home is really good for interacting with people that would not necessarily be on your friend lists without having to blow their heads off in Battefield Bad Company. The other thing it offers is that there are often "events" held within it. For example, Groove Armada did an exclusive "gig" in VidZone (I think it was) area where they streamed some of their music videos and interviews with them.

    Like I said, keep an eye on the two sites mentioned above and go experiment with what is installed. You may decide it is a complete waste of time and hard disk space, or you may decide you love it. Either way, an open mind is the best way to approach it.

    *Edit* for grammer (as always)

    You mean they haven't killed off Home yet. Surprised anybody still uses it.
  • Bigglesworth #19 2 years ago

    @GamesConnoisseur
    Personally, I don't subscribe to the thinking that Home must provide you with non-stop entertainment every hour of every day. It's not a game, its a service. For example, I loved Home while Xi was running, but at the moment I'm not aware of anything going on that I want to see or play.

    Oh actually, I'm enough a Final Fantasy fanboy to be seriously tempted by the XIII-themed apartment!
  • Crazyreyn #20 2 years ago

    Can you view the spaces before purchase? I gave up the Home ghost a long time ago, but the FFXIII space sounds awful tempting.
  • doulema #21 2 years ago

    @M_of_the_sys
    You can be less of an idiot since you don't read someone's posts and hit the "ignore poster" button. One thing being a smartass and another a dumbass.
  • sneetch #22 2 years ago

    @EvilBob_leeds
    People downrate you because you talk shit mate.

    Yeah, I love it when people assume they're reaching negative infinity because they're being too edgy or controversial or because of fanboys who don't want to read the "truth" whereas in actuality they're being down rated because they spew ridiculous generalisations; mindless, baseless hatred or complete nonsense onto these threads.
  • Murton #23 2 years ago

    Don't use Home much myself, it has so much potential that just isn't being recognised at the moment.

    As always though, I'll find an hour or so to check out this new update though.
  • Bigglesworth #24 2 years ago

    @Crazyreyn
    I think you at least get a preview image of whatever you're going to buy. Alongside the actual personal space, there's a raft of furniture and clothing items too (in Japan - maybe not here yet), and I know you get previews of those.

    You can invariably find details on the web though - there are plenty of images of the XIII space around already.
  • mukki #25 2 years ago

    PS Home? is that still online...?!?

    sheeeesh
  • 00.00.01 #26 2 years ago

    @ ZuluHero
    Create an US account with access to the US-Store as well as the US-Home. Much better/bigger than the skinny EU-version.
  • M_of_the_sys #27 2 years ago

    @doulema

    But then how will I annoy people who are so easily pissed off by minus votes?

    Seeing as you're not a fanboy and just a prick, I'll happily click the little option you mentioned.

    And I deleted this laast week because it lacked any new kind of interface. Or was it bacause there was nothing of interest for me? It's a shame - Home could have been exceptional
  • MeBrains #29 2 years ago

    i do agree it is immensely quiet on the home front. sony has been talking so much about it until a few months after it got to the open beta state it is in now...

    EG, could you query Sony on its plans with it? Ask why they have been so quiet for the last... err... year?!
  • jefranklin18 #30 2 years ago

    @MeBrains:

    In fairness, Sony do make regular updates to Home, host themed events, etc. However like a lot of online communities, a lot of the events are user-created, for example there was a competition recently for the best photograph taken within Home (all users have the ability to take screen grabs). No real prizes were given, just kudos for a job well done. Checking out the Sony forums (there is a Home section on there) will give you an idea of what is going on.

    Christ, I sound like a shill.

  • bladdard #32 2 years ago

    Home is rubbish but the pool game is much improved, it's still pretty poor but it used to be unplayable. The queuing mechanism is an improvement too but why do we have to wait in queue to play a bloody game?

    PS. I'm yet to be beaten on the pool game other than when I once went in off on the black. :p
  • Beano #33 2 years ago

    "EG, could you query Sony on its plans with it? Ask why they have been so quiet for the last... err... year?! "

    Not really - they post news about new content and features on their blogs on a regular basis.

    jfranklin: yes... I do know that they update the thing and that new additions are regularly being made.

    it has just been a very long time since it has appeared in the corporate strategy (presentations) or am I mistaking? before it went public beta, sony corp was a LOT more vocal about it with home being a cornerstone in their strategy. It seems strange to not having heard about it for so long.

    beano: read above. I do not want to read blogs, nor forums about home. I just made a comparison to before public beta and after. They fail to bring it in the news. How come it is not as public as it used to be? The GDC keynote did not even mention it ffs!?!

    edit: and it seems a very worthwhile question to ask to sony reps...

    The Sony blogs are their official consumer announcement channels - do you expect them to send a e-mail or letter directly to you or what's your point?
  • MeBrains #36 2 years ago

    beano: which.word.do.you.not.understand?!

    i do not want to read emails or blogs or mails. I am only noticing the following:
    - BEFORE beta: lots of talk about it during keynotes, press conferences and corporate strategy presentation
    - AFTER beta: quietness through the channels mentioned above.

    Question I have: WHY. What is their goal with it?!
