Play UT3 Black for free this weekend
Then buy it for 60 per cent less than usual.
Epic is letting everyone play Unreal Tournament 3 for free this weekend, to mark ten years since the original UT demo was released.
You can download UT3 Black via Steam. The Black bundle includes the game, the free Titan pack, a bonus pack with new enhancements and environments, the Titan mutator, the Greed and Betrayal gametypes, the Stealthbender vehicle plus weapons, deployables, characters and more.
Buy the regular UT3 in the shops and you'll get a key so you can update via Steam and get all the Black goodies for free.
Or just buy the lot online - there's 60 per cent off Unreal Tournament 3 Black until 27th September, and the same discount is available on the Unreal Deal Pack. To top it all off, the original Unreal Tournament will be priced at just $1.99.

There are often deals on XBLA content if you're a Gold member. Half price arcade games are normally quite a good deal, and I am a big fan of Steam on weekends. This sort of deal gets my impulse buying instincts on fire, which normally happens when I find something on sale in an actual shop. Definitely like to see more of it across the electronic stores.

UT99 got me into PC gaming and UT2004 was so much fun to play. UT3 looks good and brings back some of the elements of UT99's gameplay and movement BUT it's nowhere near as much fun to play as previous versions (including the "ugly sibling" UT2003) which is a shame. Another annoyance was that the story isn't about a tournament either and is a glorified training exercise for the online portion of the game.
Plus it was a rushed release (thanks to Midway) and came out at a very busy time of the year and it got overshadowed by many other AAA releases, including the ever so popular COD4.
UT3 is an ok game but Epic's focus was on Gears 2 (hence no Cliff Bleszinski as game designer) which they announced a few months (February 2008, not at E3 as many people state) after the PC release.
I'd say it's worth checking out at such a low price but if you loved the previous versions (especially the stoylines) this falls short of the mark.

I don't know what price it has on Steam, I got my physical copy from Play with about 11€ including delivery so I'm happy as a fish.

You actually took notice of the storylines in UT games?
It's always been about multiplayer surely.
