Play unveils beefy PS3 bundle News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

14 February, 2007

Our game-selling Internet friends at Play.com have sent word of a splendid PlayStation 3 bundle that's guaranteed for delivery on 23rd March.

The meaty bundle consists of the console, three games (the excellent MotorStorm, the nearly excellent Resistance: Fall of Man and, er, Genji) and a free HDMI cable for an all-in price of GBP 524.99.

PlayStation 3 launches in the not too distant future on 23rd March, with Sony aiming to have 30 games available on day one, including several through the PlayStation Network online service.

It also said this week that the first 500,000 people to sign up to its free online service would get a Blu-ray copy of Casino Royale.

And if you fancy being one of those 500,000, you could do worse than opt for Play's bundle, even if we do say so because they are lovely and sometimes hold our hands during scary bits in films.

Alternatively, you could always try and win one of the above bundles in our rather spiffing competition...

I'm seriously considering getting a PS3 now, as I have a big lump of tax money to come back around that time. The Play offer floats my boat, but Genji.

HMV take note - THAT is how you do a bundle!

3 games and an HDMI cable for £100 is excellent savings - even if Genji's quality is, shall we say, questionable.

Not a bad bundle - certainly puts hmv to shame.

But 525 worth of goodness? No.

Well Casino Royale isn't too bad either. I just hated the extreme Sony product placement in this movie (mobiles, bluray discs etc). Still I'd rather take Genji than a PSP.

Heh, advertising. This is EG's half of the competition deal, I take it; to plug play.com as much as possible for the duration?

nearly cancelled my play pre order, but stuck it out, and now they've dropped the whoeful Formula 1 (4/10 Edge..not good) and stuck Motorstorm in, I can say I'm a happy bunny again.. (still you'd think that they'd drop the awful Genji)

Have pre-ordered the excellent Oblivion too, after reading the little ditty about it over at GamesRadar...

So come launch day I'll have 3 good games and a blu-ray drink coaster... and a free HDMI cable...

as pointed out, that's how you do a bundle.. HMV take note...

Looks like they still haven't cleared the backlog of Wii orders though.

At least they've learnt from it, which is good.

It's rather telling that Play still have them on sale - suggests there isn't the furore over getting one that there was for the 360 or the Wii... I'd get one just to flog it on eBay but frankly I genuinely believe the market simply won't be there on eBay.

Game are doing similar bundles. But if I caved I'd only want F1 for now anyway. Bundles suck.

Well I am surprised they are taking pre-orders after the fiasco with the Wii pre-order system they had in place last year. Even with a guarantee they still screwed up big time.

I was one of many people that got screwed even though I ordered mine the same day as soon as they were available to pre-order only to get an email from them a week before launch notifying me that they could not fulfil my order.

Woolworths and Argos both cam through with my Wii’s on launch day.

I can see it now, Sony cut our allocation units so sorry you won’t get one.

We shall see.

Yeah or maybe Sony don't need to resort to forced shortages to make their console seem like a hot item :

Well done Play.com Thats more like it. I've been watching the offer over the past 2 months and it just keeps getting better. Credit where credits due - I've been dealing with them for about a year. Consistantly good supplier.

Been using play.com for years. Always been excellent. They're selling ps3 games at £39.99. Which is still £10 too much but better than the 60-70 the xbox boys were bleating on about. :)

Ooh, and another thing:

"Yeah or maybe Sony don't need to resort to forced shortages to make their console seem like a hot item "

Because Sony NEVER held back on European PSP stock, even delaying the launch, even when there was a veritable plethora, nay glut of stock sitting on Japanese and American shelves, did they?
