Play Tomb Raider: Legend for free News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

12 February, 2009

The people in charge of digital distribution platform AWOMO are offering you the chance to play Tomb Raider: Legend for free.

All you have to do is visit AWOMO.com and take part in the public beta. Tomb Raider: Legend will be available to play free of charge for one month from today.

AWOMO is designed to let you download PC games in minutes rather than hours, via a web browser. You can start playing while games are still downloading, too.

"With Tomb Raider: Legend, a 7.2GB game, we can demonstrate that players on an 8 Megabit line can be playing the game within 11 minutes," said exec type Roger Walkden. That's "a staggering 11 times the speed of competing services and twice as fast as our previous beta test game", apparently.

Tomb Raider: Legend was released in 2006 and scored a highly respectable 7/10 here on Eurogamer. Read Kristan's review for the full lowdown.

I quite like that game, I might have that. To help them test, you understand.

you cant keep it though can you. Its one of them you can play as long as you are a paying subscriber deals isn't it. It will only be free to play for the advertised BETA month?

Even if it is only a month, I though Legends would be very much ideal for getting through in a month, at least compared to the likes of Oblivion.

Hmm and do you need to register all your details for the public beta by any chance? Not that I'm a cynical bastard you understand.

Good game, played it a few months back and really enjoyed it. had a bit of an odd graphical issue with ropes and stuff not uite lining up though, but wasn't a major problem. Graphically it looks very nice with the next-gen stuff turned on, good use of sound and music too and Croft Manor is pretty interesting.

It's interesting that until a few weeks back Legend was freely available on Gametap among other high profile games. They've cut down on a lot of them, but there is still a lot available, like Hitman and arcade classics.
Also of note is that as a European you can't even pay Gametap for their service (US-only), yet still get the free games.

Generally, I still prefer boxes, these services are more like renting games.

lol

7/10s stopped being respectable when this site starting slapping unjustified 10/10s around like there's no tomorrow.
