Play EG's Name That Game compo

Decipher screenshots and win a Wii!

Sound the trumpets, for the world famous Eurogamer Name That Game! competition has begun.

From many will emerge five brave and victorious winners, each of whom will win a Nintendo Wii and copy of top action game Disaster: Day of Crisis.

The Name That Game! competition challenges you to name the game a screenshot belongs to - selecting one answer from a list of five. How very easy. But what if we jumble and distort the images; what about now, clever clogs?

Those that possess the gift and can guess five correct games in a row will be automatically entered into our grand prize draw. Those who do not, however, may be ridiculed. Entries close on 30th November.

But you needn't stop at five correct answers; each successful attempt builds your score and gives you an accuracy percentage, so we've correlated these into user leaderboards to see who's best. There's also table for who managed the longest run of correct answers.

Prestige and prizes await, so log into your Eurogamers account to begin.

    Does it ever end ? I got 71/100 and couldn't take anymore. Also some of the answers are in plain view, while others offer a choice between variants of the same game.

    I gave up when I saw the logo game's name written in the corner of the screenshot. Kind of took away the challenge :/

    There should be enough questions in there that no-one reaches the end. If they do, they've probably played it too much :) More questions and game-modes will be added to keep it fresh.

    We know that some questions are very easy (such as the C&C one above) and some are near impossible. They are generated randomly and it's part of the game's fun that the difficulty is so varied. A lot of questions sometimes appear difficult but they can be worked out using science. Sometimes we like to make it even more tricky by offering similar choices ;)

    I got bored after 20 in a row. There was one guitar hero-like screenshot and the choices were Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero World Tour or Rock Band.

    Is the winner the person in first place on the leaderboard? Because he's got about 1800 points. I think I prefer to pay.

    No, the winner isn't the 1st person on the leaderboard, he obviously doesn't have a life, the sad bastard.

    It's just a prize draw, you get 5 in a row and ou're entered. It's a fairer way to do it IMHO - it's just enough to ensure a betard doesn't win, but not enough to allienate everyone except people that play way too much games.

    I got bored after about 20. All were either far too easy or far too hard - crock of shit & pointless.

    No, I don't want another Wii either - hope I don't win!

    Since it started, on and off. Which was a bit wrong since I was really busy at work. In fact, I'm stil at work but mamanging to fit in a few here and there.

    It's actually quite good, there are a few games I've never heard of that I now know about - it's like an advertising lottery :)

    I learned of a new game, too. Moscow Rush.

    It's like Midnight Club, but you can only drive Lada's. Type it in the game search box, it's awesome ;)

    A betard is a Beta Retard, someone who joined EG for the sole purpose of obtaining a Beta key for a game (the worst offender recently being CoD5).

    After this, they start to post questions in the forum about their key, for instance asking how to use the key, asking where to find it etc. However, this is almost exclusively done in a bastardised form of English nowhere near as sophisticated as text speak, which indicts low intelligence.

    But the real betards are the ones who join after the beta have finished and ask things such as

    Can I Has a Beta Key Pleaze?
    My Mate Told Me They're Beta Keyz Here
    Where's My Beta Key? I Claimed But it Sed their was none i will take FRAUD ACTIONS!!!
    Threads titled "CoD5" containing all of the above
    I have a Key BUT my mate Wants One

    They are the lowest form of life, and will one day destroy this forum.

    I ended up playing this all day yesterday. Had to guess on plenty of the really obscure ones, but it's keeping me occupied.

    How many points to you lose on errors? 3 errors so far seem to have lost me 26 points, whereas, if they were correct, they would have netted me only 9 points. Isn't that a bit unfair?

    Great fun by the way. Stayed up until past 2 am last night playing this and not some of my piled untouched games (which have cost me a small fortune :)...

    The questions that actually gave you the games title logo in the screenshot were the hardest. I must admit though, the logo being reversed was a fucking hint of pure genius!

    I'm still playing this after a week. Keep seeing new games I've never heard of, then breaking my streak trying to guess them. Currently 404/500, which would be an alright place to stop. Don't think that's going to happen though.

    Yeah I agree, one that can play Mrio Galaxy, and No More Heroes, and Metroid Prime 3, and Trauma Centre, and Smash Bros Brawl, perhaps Okami, and Battalion Wars 2, and Mario Kart! You know, good quality games!

    Wait a sec...

    It's have been nicer to offer a PS3. then you could just trade it in if you really wanted a Wii.

    I think I'd still be playing even if there weren't a prize. Come across one wrong question so far. There was a twisted shot of Mario Party DS, but the only answers that were close were Mario Kart DS & Wii.

    best I've acheived is 9 in a row...

    But to be fair I dont look into games for consoles etc I'm not interested in so it does limit me quite a lot..

    The competition is now over (and the winners will be chosen today) but the game will live on! There will be new questions very soon and possibly some other changes to look out for :)

    Like I've said in the forum, there is a crazy man with a Covenant Plasma Rifle on his way to kill Lexx87 unless he finds out who won. Do you want his death on your mind? Weighing on your mind like a big tank loaded with concrete and compacted star matter?
