Play.com's Nov 3DS date an "estimate"

Plot thickens.

Play.com's November 2010 release date for Dragon Ball (3DS), which had suggested the 3DS handheld would be out this year, is "estimated", the online retailer has told Eurogamer.

According to Play.com, Dragon Ball (3DS) is due out on 19th November 2010 in the UK, which suggests the 3DS console will be released on or before that date.

However, Play.com told Eurogamer the online retailer has only "heard that's the estimated release date".

Play.com wouldn't reveal what organisation it heard the estimated date from, be it Dragon Ball publisher Namco Bandai or 3DS manufacturer Nintendo.

Play.com also lists Gundam (3DS) with a 25th March 2011 release date.

Nintendo hasn't priced or dated the 3DS. Indeed Nintendo has repeatedly dismissed recent retailer 3DS pricing and release date listings as "pure speculation".

However, Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime has gone on the record to say the handheld will be out in all "major markets" by 1st April 2011.

We've got loads of 3DS coverage, including a EGTV special, a 3DS hands-on from Oli and a Digital Foundry tech analysis.

If the 3DS were to echo the original DS' release path (which so far, it is) then it'll be out in America in November, December for Japan and February for Europe.

Nintendo's choice is to get one last holiday season out of the DSi to clear stock, or have a fevered holiday season (ala the Wii) with the 3DS.

FEVERED HOLIDAY SEASON GOGOGO!!! I will dress up as a DS and camp outside GAME on launch night if it comes out before Christmas here.

online retailer release date - official release date = news

@LazyDan Could I dress up as a DS game cartridge and hide inside you? On second thoughts....maybe not. :)

As long as you don't dress up as a stylus and poke my face all night, I'm up for anything!

Eurogamer spam us a non-news article. Get fake commenter spamming about shoes and sunglasses. Now, could anyone help me? I am a banking manager from Lesotho and it has come to pass that the previous presidents late chihuaha kept a holding account and vault containing $30m Nira and a prototype 3DS. If you could help me embezzle this, effectively make us millionaires and get a scoop on Gizmodo. You need to prove your intent by faxing me your bank details and then sending me £3000 by western union and you DSi XL by fedex. Deal?

@altitude2k: Maybe you should consider the defniition of the words news yourself... because this most definitely is news.

    news   [nooz, nyooz]
–noun ( usually used with a singular verb )
    1.
a report of a recent event; intelligence; information: His family has had no news of his whereabouts for months.

Just because this isn't "news" to you doesn't mean it isn't interesting for others. I'm really sick of people giving EG a hard time for posting "none news" articles. Would you seriously rather have them just never post anything to their news feed?

Always fun when Eurogamer dances to the retailers beats. Isn't this the second or third news piece in less than a week where a retailer has guessed a release date and it's found itself in the news?
  • Lee_Morris #9 2 years ago

On a more serious note! I can't see them releashing this beast before Christmas. They would have to be already manufacturing them if they were doing a worldwide launch before the end of the year.

Has there ever been a time when the previous hardware itaration of a product has been the best selling system in the year that it's next hardware itaration is released?

    I reckon £200 before christmas.
I would think Nintendo would want to get the 3DS out world-wide by (at the latest) December.

They would have to be already manufacturing them if they were doing a worldwide launch before the end of the year.

At E3 they were saying that it was still a prototype and still some changes were going to be made with it. So they are going to have to get a move on to get it made in the numbers they need in time.

    Exactly

One game listed in Nov sounds more like a mistake than anything else. If they had a load of games all dated in Nov I'd be more inclined to believe it.

Initial stock will be limited in all territories, and will sell out no matter what time of year it's released... An Xmas release would be nice for us punters, but I doubt it's giving Nintendo worries... My guess is Early 2011 launch, maybe Japan end of 2010, giving them a year for word of mouth to spread and stock to build ready for a proper go at dominating Xmas 2011.
