Play as Vader in Force Unleashed

You can choke Wookies.

LucasArts has revealed that you will be able to play as Darth Vader in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

You will fill his leather boots for the entire first level as you seek out the boy who eventually becomes the game protagonist: the Secret Apprentice.

"We created a level at the beginning of the game where you play as Darth Vader and go to the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyk," Haden Blackman, project lead, told GameTrailers. "And during the course of the level he finds this boy who becomes, ultimately, his Secret Apprentice."

Haden Blackman went on to reveal that Force Choke, as one of Vader's core powers, would be usable, so choking Wookies "will definitely be in the game".

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the first current-generation game to come out of LucasArts' revamped internal studios, and has turned plenty of heads thanks to its over-the-top helping of Force powers.

Joining the internally-developed 360/PS3 game will be a version for Wii, PS2 and PSP by Krome Studios, and a DS game by n-Space. All will be based on the same storyline, which takes place after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be out in Europe on 19th September.

Pop over to our Star Wars: The Force Unleashed gamepage for plenty of media to get stuck into, as well as a Eurogamer TV Show shot from Skywalker Ranch.

Alternatively you can fill Darth Vader's boots permanently by picking up a pair of your own.

"Choking the Wookie" is an auto-erotic act, correct?

EDIT: addendum - three comments about how this sounds like an euphemism for male masturbation in three minutes!

Hooray to EG for breaking with the "next-gen" nonsense!

About the game - who knows. I'm not building up any anticipation, the whole "secret apprentice" concept sounds a bit rubbish, and the amount of hype they're spewing is slightly sickening. I just hope that the lightsaber implementation on the Wii doesn't suck.

    Trust me, they will.

Why is this story in the PC News section?

    :-s

I'm with karstux: I think the story and the idea all sounds a bit crap, but what I am looking forward to is the "digital molecular matter" stuff. That looks great in the vids. I'm approaching this as, hopefully, a sort-of sandbox game where you can go apeshit with force powers. That's all I want right now!

If you don't get the chance to behead a few Ewoks as well something has gone seriously wrong during development.

I shave my wookiee on a regular basis.

Choke the wookie, groom the wookie, polish vaders helmet, play with your light saber etc etc etc

ulov, I think you need to take some retar-dex. It soothes the pains and loosens joints. Firstly, Lucas doesn't create new Star Wars ideas anymore, he leaves it to his minions. He merely checks them and approves and make suggestions etc. There is plenty more life in Star Wars. You sound like you don't know what you're talking about, and you're clearly not a SW fan, so bugger off and let us discuss this topic.

And btw, this is old news. A frakking women's magazine covered this before EG . For shame....
  • orakio #18 4 years ago

so... you read women's magazines eh? ^_^
  • Razorus #19 4 years ago

Lol, no I don't. Ok, sometimes. I just want to know how they think. Turns out, they can't think of anything interesting except make-up tips, weight loss, something called menopause and 'how to tell when your man is cheating", which is useful because now I know how to trick the female.

Anyway, back on topic. Someone on a Gamespot forum provided a link to the website for....Vogue or something. And they had an interview with the producers of the game and lots of info before anyone else.

I'm not a fan of the films, the films were okay, and the game tie-ins were horrendous.
I am however a fan of KOTOR, this was my first introduction to the franchise and I deem the plot better than any of the movies, this is my personal opinion of course.

Uhh so my point is, the fact that were are getting something orginal again has given me hope, it looks wonderful and the physics look like there's alot of fun to be had playing about with them.
However the gameplay doesn't look 'solid' if you see what I mean, not when compared to action games of late GoW, NG and heck even Kingdom Hearts 2. Of course it's still work in progress so I'll be optimistic towards it at this point.

Anyhow it shines with potential! I love the Apprentice's battle stance and attire...not liking his looks much though, lol hopefully we can edit this feature hehe.

The Force Unleashed is either going to be brilliant or bollocks.
I'm not betting on either, although I'm not expecting actual brilliance because in my opinion this shall be an 8 out of 10 at most, which is what I meant by 'brilliant', while by 'bollocks' I mean a 6 or 7 out of 10, which is probably what it'll end up being.

Honestly with the hype Lucasarts' marketing department have been churning up The Force Unleashed is either going to fulfill expectations or fall dreadfully short.
