Did anyone think this was going to go beyond a 7 or an 8?! And has anyone complaining at the score actually read the conclusion to it all:

I stand by my assertions that inconsistent physics and poor level design make for a game which is frustrating. And having to start all over again, all of the time, is boring. But PixelJunk Eden still manages to be addictive. The more you experience and experiment with the control system, the more you realise how innovative it is. You feel as though you're learning to master something, and you want to keep getting better. As you improve, the stupid physics become easier to cope with, too. And, for all its pretensions, there is something quite beautiful about PixelJunk Eden. It's just about worth all the confusion, frustration, pretentiousness and frequent tedium. It's worth GBP 4.99. But probably not being late to meet your Mum." If you like the game (like I do) then woohoo for you etc. |

bad09, exactly. Seems you got the point ;)
But seriously. For me, this game is not hard nor frustrating. I truly enjoy the unique visuals and sweet techno music. It's hard to play this game for 8 hours straight, but every couple hours you can spend twenty minutes to clear one level and after that you feel more relaxed than before you started to play. I've completed about 40% of this game and haven't died once. And I don't think myself as a good gamer so I really don't understand how one (especially a game reviewer) can fail 9 times in first level. IMHO, especially considering the price point, this game should get 9/10. |

You say you can't stand the way people respond on here (toughen up mate) and then you go on to direct a personal insult at me for making a sexist remark? hmm. Wasnt trying to defend it, it was a smug smile. Like this one :) And Im right, if you have played this game for a whole day and cant beat level 1, then its time to move on Im afraid.

Place it up against other £5 PSN games, is it as good as Super Stardust HD? I would say not. But it is good.
My first "death" was on Garden 3, but thats because I was faffing around trying to go for 100000 pollens. All seeds and spectras in the previous gardens too without much of an effort. Plus I do feel there is a bit of skill, learning to get the feel of trapezing around everywhere.

It's not the fact that you disagree with the review, my issue is with the fact that you casually mention that she should stick to the Wii and that she should leave proper consoles for the men. The whole post could easily be taken as meaning that because she's female she should look for another job. I know it was a joke, sir, but I suspect being a female it must be pretty irritating to have people point out that you're a femalelol and therefore shouldn't be in the industry. So yeah, I know you probably don't think that at all, but it may be a little too close to the bone for some. Not ever having been a woman I can't say for sure, of course.

hehe .. It took me ages before i could sproing my flea out of the top of the cave in bugaboo-the-flea.
But when i finally managed it i was over the moon. A game was just a game back then and even though it was odd/different and not based on anything else they weren't called 'experimental' or 'different' just because they weren't FPS or driving games. (Not that there where any FPS back then either) In the 8bit days all games were 'experimental'. There is a lack of creativity these days with games and any that are slightly different get tagged as 'alternative' not mainstream and written off. I think this is bad and why gaming is going downhill. |

The demo left me with a huge "meh" factor and many of Ellie's observations I agree with. I just didn't feel any love toward the game whatsoever.
Reviews are subjective at best. All these hangups about attributing a numerical score to something so esoteric is getting boring. It is nice to read something entertaining, rather than the usual "zomg framerates issues, blah statistics" Ellie and Dan Whitehead should be saluted and revered. Good on you I say. |

I'm not going to bash your rant of a review, but how can you omit the enemies in the later gardens? You know, the ones you have to spin through in order to defeat them. Or the swinging plants that help you swing even higher and faster if you time it right. Or the flowers that have to be hit in order to convert them to pollen, instead of just getting them with your silk. Nor do you mention the rock climbing elements, and that you can control your grimp while you're airborne. Or even the bonus time you get if you sprout two plants or more in a row. Did you even finish the game? This are things which have to be in a review in addition to your personal thoughts. You just tell us about being late to meet your mom. Well I'm sorry but that is of very little interest to someone who is thinking of purchasing the game. Yes the game is hard, but its gameplay is not monotonous nor is it linear. I for one had to change the way I approach a garden in a very significant way from the 1st to the 5th.
I used to write for a gaming website myself so I know it's hard sometimes to play a game you don't like just because it's an assignment, but your writeup is utterly sloppy and betrays the fact that you probably think of this job as something to do between meeting your mom, taking pictures at comic conventions and having a pint at the pub. Don't forget that you're writing this for the people who pay your salary. Shape up, or get out! |

I see were you (and everyone else) is coming from, but you guys really need to understand (how many times must I post this!) that because a reviewer feels differently about a game doesn't make them wrong, useless or anything, just like if they agree with you doesn't make them right. IT OPINION!!!!! For YOU this game is not hard nor frustrating but only after some play time even I can see that for many it would be. Not every one is into techno so the music could grate etc etc. Reviews are for EVERYONE not just you (or anyone else) You disagree with the review I don't, who is wrong (the correct answer is no one). I disagreed with Braid getting 10/10 I made a comment on not agreeing and that was it. I disagreed with SMG getting 10/10 I made a comment on not agreeing and that was it. I disagreed with AC getting 6/10 I made a comment on not agreeing and that was it. See a pattern? Just comment saying you though it was good or whatever (that's what the comments are for) or if you feel that strongly write your own review and post it. There is no need to insult reviewers or claiming bungs just because your own views are not validated on a review. |

To all those who don't find this a challenge: Well done. I slowly applaud.
To everyone else... Well done for not lying about it :) The physics are way off sometimes, and spinning also affects jump distance, the silk sometimes slows you down, and I've found on more than one occasion the controls give up. Winding in the silk? Sometimes works, usually doesn't. And it's not the pad cos all the shoulder buttons work fine everywhere else... And which direction are you meant to move the pad to drop quickly? That, too, sometimes works, but usually not. The amount of times I've overshot a plant cos I moved the pad in slightly the wrong direction is too many to count... And while I may have got the first thingummy on my first go, the game does indeed seem to change the rules based on what it feels like doing. |

I thought it was a great review, certainly made me smile which, while at work, doesn't happen that often at the moment. Can't comment on the game itself since I don't have a PS3, but just because you don't agree with the reviewer doesn't give you the right to get all offensive. |

I do agree with you (and Arbiter) on that point actually (not just aimed at Ellie though), a lot reviews on EG tend to talk more of emotions and feeling rather than functionality and features. For an example, the massive fact that Braid is incredibly short was missing from the glowing review, indeed only after being questioned did Dan come on and say it was quite possible (if you were good enough) to beat the game in a hour!

and to prove my comparison is correct here is one of the comments on this video from 3 days ago johnpeelslovechild (3 days ago) What level of pixeljunk Eden is this again? I completed this one Sunday afternoon, about 20+ years ago. When you get to the top, there's a nice bug eating dragon waiting to ruin your day.

From the review it doesn't look like the reviewer got even as far as basic rock climbing let alone any of the features of the later levels. Also the people pointing out that it's just opinion most of that is true. However she also states the game's physics are wonky and while that is partially subjective it's presented as an objective fact and will be seen as such by many. Which isn't true, she just can't play properly and prefers to state that the game isn't properly playable. |

I, too, have fallen in love with this little game. Especially the "swingy swingy" mechanic mixed with missing a cloud of pollen by a fraction of a millimetre.
