Q-Games has shown its next - and nameless - PixelJunk game for PlayStation Network, as well as revealing details of the PSP version of its tower-defence hit PixelJunk Monsters.
The fourth PixelJunk (after Racers, Monsters and Eden) recalls classics like Thrust and Exile, as players negotiate 2D caverns in a tiny ship, saving stranded adventurers. But it has a modern twist: the manipulation of reservoirs and currents of water and lava in a design that hangs on heat levels, gravity and impressive fluid dynamics.
It's not the PixelJunk Dungeons game that Q has mentioned before, and that was expected to be the fourth in the series. The whereabouts of that game are unknown.
Also shown was PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe, the previously announced PSP version of the popular tower defence strategy game.
The game will include everything from the original Monsters release and its subsequent patches and Encore expansion pack. It will also have an all-new island of 11 stages, with new monsters, towers and a new boss.
Ad hoc and online co-operative multiplayer will be supported, along with the difficulty levels that were added to the PSN game after launch. Trophies have been reborn as 'medal challenges'; medals will unlock extras such as concept art and behind-the-scenes videos.
Gameplay is entirely unchanged, but since it's a good fit for a handheld console, we'll let it off.
PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe for PSP has no release date as yet. PixelJunk 1-4 will appear on PSN this summer.
