PES6 PS2 now works on PS3 News

PlayStation 3 PlayStation 2 News by Tom Bramwell

26 April, 2007

Konami has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 6 for PlayStation 2 is now "fully compatible" with PlayStation 3.

In fact, says the publisher, it was all taken care of in the 1.70 firmware released last Friday, which sorts out the problems that were preventing the game working properly online.

Now you should be able to boot one another around over the Internet as well as offline, with "no known issues" remaining to solve.

Which is good news, since it's going to be a bit of a wait for the old Pro Evolution Soccer on PS3, of which details have yet to emerge.

Good job. Sony needs to work more on the backward compatibility of the big name titles and at least that part would be sorted.

Just when I was satisfied with the new update I realised MGS3: subsistance was mysteriously removed from the BC list. Bloody liberty. Oh well. Three fully working games in exchange for one is bearble . Just. I'll have to check this online mode with my Wifi set up.

And Konami made no comments on the single player disc of MGS3 no longer being compatible?

I wonders what other PS2 games became BC by virtue of the update?

All Onimushas perhaps? Will try this evening.

The BC website has been updated for this firmware as well.

great, now if they can just get the game to work properly on the 360 then it'll be sorted.

I picked up 2 cheap used PS2 games yesterday.

Gran Turismo 3 & WRC Evolution and they worked fine on my European PS3.

I havent tested WRC online yet, will do later this evening. I doubt it will work though, since the PS2 networking is really not very standardised at all. Each game seems to have its own scheme.

But anyway, VERY nice being able to pick up some PS2 classics while waiting for PS3 to get a decent lineup. I tested God of War I at a friends house as well, it works fine on PS3.

The back compat list is strange: it gives Beyond Good and Evil a 1 rating (noticable issues), but I played it through to the second Domz attack (in the hovercraft), and it was flawless. Maybe it becomes a problem later in the game. Burnout 3 has noticable glitches in the menu screen FMV, but nothing in-game. It's a pity the BC list doesn't differentiate between superficial issues like FMV and game problems.

Pity still no Ratchet and Clank though. :/
