PES 2010 demo now on Live, PSN

PC sampler out there as well.

Konami has thumped a PES 2010 demo onto the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace.

There's a PC sampler, too, that can be found on the Gaming Access site.

The demo offers a taste of both single- and multiplayer, plus a chance to put the tactical sliders and settings into use.

And with public demos of both FIFA 10 and PES 2010 available, the Eurogamer forum is predictably ablaze with opinion. Join in. They're a welcoming bunch.

PES 2010 arrives on 23rd October for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Nice graphics, but I have to say FIFA has the better more realistic gameplay. Its like the opposite of the games back in the day.

Agreed uglygamer. It's actually strange saying FIFA is more fluid, but it actually feels that way, at least from a first experience. Having said that, I believe both camps will be happy. The two games seem very solid.

Also, is it just me or is PES2010 a lot easier than FIFA on the hardest difficulty setting?
  • hiddenranbir #3 2 years ago

By PC Sampler, do you mean a bench marker?
  • basiclee #4 2 years ago

I've backed FIFA the last couple of years, though mainly because PES hasn't had any kind of online that was actually playable beyond the lag. However if PES can pull off some decent online I'll happily back it once again, sure FIFA has really pulled itself together but I simply enjoy PES that much more.
  • limepickle #5 2 years ago

    This had better be good.
  • uglygamer #6 2 years ago

When you are in defense and you try to play it across the field why do they kick it into the opposition half? Strange.
  • siksik6 #7 2 years ago

It's not on PSN. At least I can't see anything new at all. Hrmph.
  • itsfuzzy #8 2 years ago

Just downloaded and played a match. The exact same feeling of disappointment i had after playing last years demo.
Cant really say much has changed. Seems like another lazy effort. Will we ever have another PES3!!
  • stuarty_2003 #9 2 years ago

Xabi Alonso at Liverpool still. Will he be there come the actual release?

Ibrahimovic is at Barca though...how do Konami work?
  • JensonJet #10 2 years ago

Love it. Smooth control, better framerate, improved graphics. The game plays far better, and the team tatics control you have is nice. A proper ProEvo update, and a worthwhile one.
  • monkeyspasm #11 2 years ago

    It's not on PSN yet.
  • Cataferal #12 2 years ago

Does this demo have 4 player support? Or just 2?
  • drng69 #13 2 years ago

its there, just search for "pes"

its just not on the front page
  • Salaminizer #14 2 years ago

I left downloading it at home, obviously it can't be any worse than the terrible PC version of FIFA 10, and I hope it's better than last year.
  • thesonglessbird #15 2 years ago

This is (round about) 70% code. The 90% review code is supposed to play a lot, lot better and even look more polished.
  • azurelas_2 #16 2 years ago

And PES2010 has....... surprise surprise............... 360° dribbling. Weren't expecting that where you?
  • jaguarwong #17 2 years ago

It's like they polished up the graphics, rolled it back to PES2008 and shoved a gerbil in the ball.

Year after year after year Fifa was in the shadow of ISS and PES - two years on the bouce now (going by the two demo's) it's the other way around.
  • Deckard1 #18 2 years ago

As an ex PES fanboy I can safely say fifa is still pissing all over this on gameplay
  • freedumb #19 2 years ago

You have to play it for a bit to get the feel, it's slow build up and simulation; especially on professional or top player. For me it's back in business, I think it's a bit special and I enjoyed it more than FIFA 10, which is still decent.

Just hope you can set online matches to professional or top player difficulty, unlike the horror show of last year being stuck at beginner, where the goalkeeper and defensive AI was awaful and too easy for the speed merchants.

I won my first demo match 6-0...says it all to me.
    Way to easy.

First impressions based on my three games of five minutes each:

    THE GOOD:

    - Occasionally in PES 2009, a player would simply waltz off in a direction of his choosing, rather than obey your input with the left stick. This no longer seems to happen.
    - Though I'll have to play more to check this fully, it also seems the AI no longer performs tackles of its own accord. The number of penalties I conceded in last year's version because of tackles I had no say over was ridiculous. It always felt totally unfair.
    - 'Keepers are less easy to dribble around in one-on-one situations. I tried a few times with Master of One-on-Ones(TM) Fernando Torres, yet the 'keeper was always pretty sharp.
    - For once, the menus are quite nice.

    THE CACK:
    - Free-kicks in the middle third are still utter rubbish and difficult to make much from. They need to address this; I'd use the two arrow system seen in the N64 ISS games.
    - They've STILL not reassigned tricks to the right stick. Like last year, the right stick is used to pass the ball. NOBODY uses an analogue stick to perform passes when the buttons do a far more reliable job.
    - I couldn't see Auto-Sort in the team selection menu, but may have missed it. I liked that option, because I'm lazy.
    - Refs are still way too strict.
  • stoopidgreg #22 2 years ago

rather annoying the AI opponent makes about 5 subs per 5 minute game, and every time that happens it cuts to a rather random shot of the stadium. hope that isn't in the final build.
  • kobashi #23 2 years ago

So them mo cap sessions were all for show then as the running animations still suck. I tried the demo and the graphics and depth of tactics impressed me but the gameplay didnt. FIFA 10 feels so much better to play, in PES the players still too robotic for me, the 360 dribbling is strange as I do not notice it. In FIFA you can clearly see it!

Passing on PES 2010 still feels too automatic for me also. I still get the feeling the CPU is dictating how I should play. FIFA 10 is the game for me people.

I use to be a Winning Eleven mega fan back in the day. bought every japanese PS2 version but WE/PES doesnt do it for me these days.

Konami once again proving they're clueless this generation. MGS4 aside (which was Kojima Productions or whatever they're called more than Konami), have they released a decent game yet this gen? Thought not.

This'll be my first FIFA year since FIFA2000
  • M_of_the_sys #25 2 years ago

I haven't played the PES demo yet but if it that bad that even FIFA 10 pisses all over it, then I'm truly disappointed. :( Another year without a football game for me :(
  • Jonesie2k #26 2 years ago

As an ex PES fan boy too I have to say this is Fifa's year by the biggest margin yet. I used to love PES on the last gen but this Fifa is just so far ahead on gameplay
  • BulletTheory05 #27 2 years ago

    This demo is just horrible.

Why do players run like they are hunchbacks?
Why do they STILL put a 1 man wall infront of a free-kick near the halfway line?
    The passing is still dreadful.
The speed of the game is far too fast.
    The A.I still suck.
The CPU are far too easy to beat.

For the 2nd year running, PES is a let-down again.
I think the gap between FIFA 10 and PES is at the widest it's ever been.

Goodbye PES, you are dead to me.

    FIFA 10 FTW

It's just same old pro, the way the players run is just stupid and the game feels very arcadey. Better than last years truly woeful pro but still miles behind fifa.
  • Darren #29 2 years ago

I tried the PC demo last night and really enjoyed it. It felt like a big improvement on last year's game and it flowed well, looked good and controls were responsive. If the game is bad then it shows how much I know about football. I plan on getting FIFA 10 anyway for the 360 and PES 2010 for the PC where it'll be cheap and easily modable!

It is quite amusing though seeing comments on FIFA and PES being the opposite of what they were four years ago, i.e. that FIFA was arcade-like and terrible and PES was more realistic and great. Who'd have thought so much could change in such a short span of time? :o
  • M_of_the_sys #30 2 years ago

Bring back TIF, Sensible Soccer, Actua Soccer, Olympic soccer and Adidas Power Soccer! Woooo!

    @Darren

You don't have to keep telling us. I think we can safely assume you'll be getting it on the PC.

I passed on both '09 versions of FIFA & PES, and although I backed PES for years (ps2 versions), after trying the Demo's of both '10 versions (PS3 now), FIFA 10 are the one in my preorder basket.

I found the PES10 demo to be quite good, but not as good & fluid as Fifa. I also like the way the ball acts in FIFA better than PES, although the tactical aspects of PES seems to have some potential

Gameplay aside, I only hope that the managermode in FIFA will not disappoint me....
  • sonmi451 #32 2 years ago

was convinced I was going to buy Fifa after playing the excellent demo. But now I'm not so sure. PES looks better (the character models and lighting are excellent). Scoring a goal in PES feels more rewarding too. Fifa does feel smooth and responsive though and probably won't frustrate like PES can....

Both are excellent though. I'll probably wait and see what the reviews say before buying.
  • dom6918 #33 2 years ago

problem with Fifa is that its just too fast..doesnt give you enough time on the ball..PES is the opposite..feels like im going on a calm stroll. Saying that..when i score in Fifa, I yell and replay it over and over (manual passing/shooting)..scoring in PES is passionless, which is strange as this was not the case a few years ago!
  • BulletTheory05 #34 2 years ago

    @dom16918

I found the PES demo to faster than FIFA.

I feel on FIFA I can build my play up more slowly and accurately.

I wonder if both games will allow to you alter the game speed?
  • Rpt81 #35 2 years ago

Xabi Alonso at Liverpool still. Will he be there come the actual release?

Arbeloa too, with Johnson on the bench and Voronin not back (not that he's much of a loss). Can't imagine it'll be fixed by release, as PES 09 was heavily outdated when that came out. However, I imagine they'll do a free patch come November.
  • Mongoose #36 2 years ago

Apparently in the newer build Alonso is gone - I think they'll get most of the biggies in there. They seem to have got better at it year on year to try and compete with FIFA a bit better.

  • Darren #37 2 years ago

@ulov3 - I used the Xbox 360 controller with the PC demo and I noticed that movement wasn't restricted to just 8 directions as I was intentionally running my player and ball at different angles to test it out. Maybe it's not as precise as 360 degrees of movement but I didn't have any problems with it.
  • TurboBailey #38 2 years ago

I actually really like this demo. Gameplay is greatly improved over PES 2008 (never played 2009)

Still lacks the shine of Fifa, but the graphics are excellent. Shame the licenced teams are still out of date.

Considering i already own Fifa09, might consider getting this
  • jedi99 #39 2 years ago

This is a decent demo for the PC compared with last years effort. Nice graphics and player models look real enough. I've always been a FIFA fan but last years effort and the recent demo on PC are useless and bland. I've played FIFA 09 on the PS3 and was instantly addicted, especially the players celebration after a goal...too cool. Why aren't these things in the PC version. Anyway, it looks like PES10 for me.
  • Rodchenko #40 2 years ago

This is (round about) 70% code. The 90% review code is supposed to play a lot, lot better and even look more polished.

I have yet to experience a football game where this didn't turn out to be a hopelessly optimistic expectation, at least as far as final gameplay is concerned.
  • gandhimaster #41 2 years ago

I was pro evo all my life since iss98 but fifa09 changed everything for me. Pro evo this year is same as last year. And year before that, which was great before FIFA became awesome. Unless ea screw it up pro evo is dead.
  • denyason #42 2 years ago

this is the best yet. why would you play fifa where you can have richard dunne doing flip and flaps and lampard doing stepovers- this isn't realistic. in pes- heskey plays like a slow hulk, messi is swift and fast. players play like they do in real life. i was amazed at how gerrard played in the demo- he looks great but the style of play is akin to how gerrard would play- the way he shoots, runs- no stupid flip flaps- they're for the "special players".
crowd is awful but that is only minor. soundtrack seems as bad as ever but easy to put own tracks on. interface seems plush and player likeness is better than fifa. i played fifa- lampard was doing tricks thta ronaldinho would do- so stupid. i scored 10 goals in my second game in pes on easy mode- didn't take long to adjust.
grass looks great, goals look very god.
  • gandhimaster #43 2 years ago

ah yes individual player abilities/movements is sommit pro evo has always done much better. fair play for that!
  • tobs #44 2 years ago

Got to admire the tenacity of Konami, they are determined that people will enjoy PES 2008 and they don't care how many times they have to change the front end and update the year in the title... kudos!
  • Douche #45 2 years ago

I'll need to spend more time with both demos before i decide which to purchase. PES in particular felt like a massive improvement over last years farce. Was impressed with FIFA to and i haven't owned a FIFA in 10 years.

    Good problem to have though.
  • denyason #46 2 years ago

fifa played exactly like the previous one. just look at the intro screen where you can do tricks etc... felt identical in that aspect- lampard doing tricks like ronaldinho. like every other player too. even jamie carragher would be doing this in fifa. trash!
pes however is brill. jamie carragher plays like how he should- his touch is awful, movement is slow and on the ball also. in pes you won't have carragher doing tricks.
in fifa it appears too easy to score. there isn't really evidence on individual abilities, they all seem to be the same pace.
fifa is always slick, branded and well appeals to those that prefer gloss to play. pes is a true simulation. i just hope online is improved somewhat. never touched the previous online due to lag issues. the fifa live update is just a gimmic.
one thing i liked about fifa is the commentary- though this isn't why i would get one. pes player representation not only visually but in play is way better than fifa.
"realistic gameplay" all these idiots think by having john terry doing flip flaps is realistic???? on release odviously the major player updates are sorted out. problem with pes is the liciences- this can be easily sorted with online unofficial downloads which means latest teams, right kits etc...
fifa have always compromised on the gameplay and focussed on stats, gloss. we all the leagues possible yet player ability is awful. why would the majority play a division 1 team. no doubt those players will be doing tricks aka ronaldinho style.
ppl say pes is playing awful- but its realistic. the players can't just pass because you say so. its like reality- like when you are running- its in the stride. also player abilities also affect touch, controll etc.... gerrad plays like he does in life- charging in the box pass numerous players, toe poking the winner. the number of times he charges intot the box is so reminisent of him is so untrue. even torres - slow of the mark but has pace, plays and looks like himself. the way he shoots, runs is truly the same.
you can tell who the palyer is by the way he moves, runs which fifa doesn't compare.
all those pretentious people should buy fifa. those who like realism, like great football and not the gloss buy pes. i will definitely get pes. the goals are incrediable. ai is good too. how players movement can drag players away is so like reality. players will intelligently do diagonal runs at the right time, no stupid runs to no mans land. good example is one- two where the "two" in the "one- two pass" player can drag the defence away fromthe initail passer by doing a run across the box so the eventual through ball goes through more succesfully and space for him to shoot etc....
on watching replays- a simple pes trick of long pass- cancel trick gives you a extra yard from the nearest defender because he stutters his run- this attention to detail is awesome
