Perfect Dark XBLA showing at X10

Hands-on at press event next week.

Rare has announced that Perfect Dark for Xbox Live Arcade will be shown off at a Microsoft press event next week.

Eurogamer and others have been invited to the X10 event in San Francisco, where we'll also be catching up with other first-party and exclusive third-party Xbox 360 titles.

"Everyone at X10 will finally have a chance to get hands-on with Joanna - complete with her remastered visuals and silky 60fps frame-rate," Rare wrote in an email.

The event takes place on 11th February, but coverage will probably be embargoed.

Rare also released a high-definition screenshot of the N64 port. See if you can spot it on this page. I honestly thought he was standing in front of a pool.

    Didn't see that coming..........
  • NewbieZilla #3 2 years ago

It was always going to be easier to get Perfect Dark to XBLA. After all, Rare published it as well as developing it. Same can not be said of GoldenEye.

I'm more interested in the unannounced games Microsoft are apparently showing at X10...
  • seasidebaz #5 2 years ago

... although one of them will be Final Fantasy XIV

edit: Just to be clear, I'm looking forward to FFXIV. Just saying it's one of the unannounced games is all.

I hope they put it up on Marketplace either during or immediately after the show!
  • metalangel #7 2 years ago

Gamerpics and such quietly appeared on the marketplace a while ago. Hopeful about this... Never finished it on N64 and all my housemates preferred the simplicity of Goldeneye's multiplayer. Maybe with twin analog controls I can finally beat the Pelagic and also not spend months stuck on the Air Force One crashsite (on Perfect Agent, natch)

I wish they'd just make a decent Perfect Dark sequel. Man, I loved this game!
  • UKwoods #9 2 years ago

I didn't play this on N64. To be honest, I'd have to say that PDZ was the worst game I've played this generation, I really hated it.

"...It’s running in widescreen, the developers said it’s 60 frames per second..."

I believe Rare-developers don't know how 60 frames per second look like. Banjo XBLA definetely wasn't 60.

    Cautiously optimistic...
  • miiiguel #11 2 years ago

PDZ is indeed awfull, only game this gen I completed on "very-ultra-easy" because I just wanted it to end as fast as possible.
  • hulahoops #12 2 years ago

Microsoft paid nearly half a billion for Grabbed By The Ghoulies, Mr. Pants and this?
  • metalangel #13 2 years ago

@BlankOBlank: Don't forget Viva Pinata: Oh That Cunt Professor Pester Has Come Into My Garden And Smashed My Most Valuable Stuff AGAIN And The Only Way To Stop Him Is By Exploiting A Glitch; Banjo-Kazooie: Trading On Past Glories; and of course the lovely avatars, as they lifelessly repeat the same naff animations in 1vs100.
  • miiiguel #14 2 years ago

I hated PDZ and I love Viva Piñata - and no, one doesn't need to exploit the game in order to put prof. Pester away, you just need to learn how to properly do it :)

That said, just because I think PDZ is very bad it doesn't mean I need to say Rare can't do a good game.
  • WinterSnowblind #15 2 years ago

Anyone who tries to critisize Rare for not making good games anymore really need to play Viva Pinata. Easily one of their best works.

Really looking forward to playing through PD with a decent frame rate and more modern controls too. I'll probably get more enjoyment out of this than any new first person shooters coming this year. Does anyone else remember bots? I'd much rather play any FPS offline with a few friends with some bots to fill in the numbers than with a bunch of random people online.

And that's exactly why I've decided to hold off on buying games like AvP. Not including bots isn't going to force me to play online, it's just going to force me not to buy your games!
  • metalangel #16 2 years ago

@miiguel: You don't have many options. Bribe him? Expensive, and only works if you spot him as soon as he arrives. Decoys? Expensive and time consuming. Rhino? Might smash stuff chasing him, and might be asleep when he comes in. Dragon? Same.

Building the wall by the Tower of Sour is the best solution. If you read some forums you'll see a lot of people felt Professor Pester ruined the game. It might also explain why Rare never patched the glitch that causes the wall thing to work.
  • The_Inquisitor #17 2 years ago

I hope they include the Xray gun, which can shoot through all the walls and hit the enemy from anywhere on the on the map. Sounds unfair but you have to find them first, not easy when looking through a scope.

Plus the suitcase gun and land mines... I had so much fun playing this multiplayer, it became as tactical as any FPS I've played since.

I actually like PD Zero and love BK Nuts n Bolts. Rare isn't for everyone apparently but they are my favourite part of the Xbox right now. Still making highly original stuff, very talented Brits :)
  • wellzy4eva #19 2 years ago

Personally, I think Perfect Dark was a brilliant game that always suffered being the spiritual successor to Goldeneye 007

It'd be like Halo spinoff by bungee suffering from comparison to Halo.

(Ignoring Perfect Dark Zero) The only problem the game had in my eye was the graphics looked blurred to some http://www .youtube.com/watch?v=AOgDL_CfvVA (Probably due to the lighting and over ambition of the expansion pack)

But it was a brilliant game that I'm glad gets a second chance to be appreciated (And had some of the coolest weapons ever http://www .youtube.com/watch?v=pCSW0mPQCAs )
  • Xinch #20 2 years ago

Finally this game will run smoothly. They should have kept the same resolution as Goldeneye. It's too stuttery to play especially when the action hots up. Ah shooting through the doorway then closing the gap with the door.

    I second everything -wellzy4eva - says. The N64 couldn't handle it.

I find it absolutely shocking that not a single console FPS has ever managed to implement the counter co-op option in PD (according to my knowledge).

    Not even PDZ attempted it.
  • Sunyavadin #22 2 years ago

About damn time. I bought the MS points for getting this IN DECEMBER.
  • Quickstick4 #23 2 years ago

PDZ was still an overlooked gem imho. I must admit i HATED the game the first couple of play throughs. It was only on the hardest difficulty it started to make sence to me. Also all the little hints that the game was rushed to completion are always a nice find.

    Really looking forward to this

    WE WANT GOLDENEYE!!!
  • GiarcYekrub #25 2 years ago

    I want Blast Corps
  • TRUTH #26 2 years ago

I played Golden Eye recently on N64 - and it SUCKS! it's aged.
  • Monkey_Puncher #27 2 years ago

I'll be interested to see how the controls are on this, it was great back in the day but if they went with exactly the same setup the aiming is going to feel really slow and sluggish even if they map it to the 2nd stick. I've got my fingers crossed though, it was an amazing game back in the day and I imagine with a smooth framerate and online multiplayer this could be a must buy.

Bagsy me using the Laptop gun!
  • WinterSnowblind #28 2 years ago

The controls have been changed. The default control set up is similar to the original and implements dual analogue stick movement. You can also set it to the Duty Calls (Call of Duty) or Spartan (Halo 3) styles.

Also for everyone still complaining about Rare.. It's 4J Studio's doing this port, the same guys that did the two Banjo games on XBLA. Rare have nothing to do with it. And they said it would be out Winter 2009, so they've got till March until they've missed their deadline.
  • yegon #29 2 years ago

    Insta-buy. Can't wait!
  • GooseUK #30 2 years ago

@QUICKSTICK4 What are these hints that it was rushed, you mean deliberate things like the developer left (easter eggs) or just because it was total crap? lol
  • Chazmeister #31 2 years ago

Donkey Kong Country is a Rare game I'd really like on XBLA, just a shame it's a Nintendo IP.
  • Toadie48 #32 2 years ago

    @ Bramwell
'I honestly thought he was standing in front of a pool.' LOL

This game looks much better then the original, especially the characters. The lighting behind the guys head seems a little overpowering though, cool none-the-less but overpowering. It also looks 2D, by that I mean remember when u'd look at the light in the original game and rotate your player around it and you'd see the same thing from all angles, hope they improve that seems like the lightings still native N64 coding rather then native 360 hardware.
  • TRUTH #33 2 years ago

    It still looks dated!
  • darkmorgado #34 2 years ago

"I believe Rare-developers don't know how 60 frames per second look like. Banjo XBLA definetely wasn't 60. "

Dante's Inferno aside, I challenge you to name me 5 games this gen that run at a consistent 60FPS.

    No?

That's because current gen systems STILL cannot maintain decent framerates while outputting the visuals they pride themselves on. It's common knowledge that most console games are locked to 30FPS. Not only that, but they can't even hit 1080 HD resolutions and so it's a bit of a fallacy to describe the 360 OR the PS3 as "true" hd consoles.

    Take your ignorant trolling elsewhere.
  • swissorc #35 2 years ago

Don't think I want to play this too many memory's to ruin. This should of been on the Wii any way but alass nintendo burnt another bridge.
  • VicViper #36 2 years ago

While I'm sure that the game will look alot better and play as it was, well I never played the N64 version as I was a Sega man back in those dark console war torn days and I can't really get any interest going in this.

I'll try the demo for sure if nothing else to show me what it was like, I'm not getting the fevor that this seems to generate although Golden eye was very good.
