People still playing Halo 2 somehow
Refusing to finish the fight.
Some mad but brilliant people have managed to keep the Halo 2 dream alive for more than 10 days, despite Microsoft officially ending support for Xbox 1 titles on 15th April.
As detailed on the Bungie forum, a die-hard group of around 20 people simply didn't turn their Xboxes off at zero hour and have been able to continue killing one another while sobbing uncontrollably ever since.
Unfortunately they have started dropping out now due to overheating and net connection problems, but those who remain have vowed not to stop until Microsoft boots them or they die or whatever.
Heroes of men. If they do drop out, of course, they could always read Better Than Halo: The Making of Halo 2, our massive retrospective on the game that arguably made Xbox Live, which is full of details on the game's development direct from the men who worked on it.

It boggles the mind that they carried on playing it for another 3 or 4 years.
edit: having said that, when I heard the servers were being switched off I did get a pang of nostalgia.

For me this was the best online console FPS ever, it sure puts Modern Warfare 2 to shame, i am sick of that game already, heres hoping that Reach can be Halo 2's true successor.

Here are the young men, well where have they been?
We knocked on the doors of Hell's darker chamber,
Pushed to the limit, we dragged ourselves in
...
Where have they been?
Where have they been?

at all the other wannabe lee evanses - +1 too! hell, +1 at eg for the brilliance of the tagline!
but kudos for these 'unemployed', doing this will be a full time 'job' tbh, and they arent doing it solely for the love of halo, theyre doing it for everyone who paid a fee for a service, and as such belongs to us, therefore ms should never cut or disconnect a service.

I think they call that a logically fallacious argument.
If you pay a fee for a service, that service does not belong to you. You pay for the right to use it. You stop having a right to use the service when you stop paying for it or when the owner of the service decides to call it quits.
