Penumbra demo released

Puzzle-based survival horror.

To celebrate its joining the glitzy golden ranks of gaming, Frictional Games has released a tasty demo for Penumbra: Overture, ahead of the first episodic instalment due on 30th March.

You'll get a chance to test-drive the first couple of levels, experiencing the advanced physics as you twist your brain into knots trying solving puzzles. Toddle over to the game's website to snatch the demo.

Penumbra: Overture is a first-person survival horror shindig that's based around puzzles rather than action. You'll play as Philip, whose search for his presumed dead father uncovers more than he was expecting, and he soon finds himself trapped in an underground complex in Greenland. As you do.

Here you'll have to use your wits over your braun, outsmarting your enemy rather than thumping them in the face.

The game will be released in three episodes, the first of which will cost you GBP 14.99 and is out at the end of the month.

First! I'm looking forward to it.

Nice, loved the first demo they did before turning the idea into a full game.
Hope the combat is better, it was about the only weak part of the original demo i thought.

Unfortunately, the demo crashes for me after 2 minutes or so, everytime at the same spot. That's really the first time in the last 5 or 6 years that I couldn't get a demo (or full game, for that matter) to work.

Cool. I'll give it a blast.

You got it to load? Better than me then, as mine just crashed after showing a black screen.

Have you got the latest version of the demo? I got the first version last week sometime and it would crash as soon as I got off the boat. I then read a couple of days later that they released a new version that supposedly fixed this. I haven't got round to downloading it again though.

Hmmmm not bad, nice physics puzzles. Controls seem a bit clunky (had to really rack the mouse sensitivity up a lot to even play properly) and it's a shame that the demo ends as soon as you meet the first enemy (or I died in one hit - not sure).

Just played the demo... I was seriously impressed. And fucking scared out of my wits! It was awesome. The game OOZES atmosphere and I was really digging the control system - swinging the hammer felt good and so did turning the wheel. Not quite so sure how it will be smacking enemies tho.

I really want this now! And so many other games to play.
