Penny Arcade Adventures this summer News

PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

21 February, 2008

Microsoft has said the first episode of Penny Arcade Adventures is due out on Live Arcade this summer.

The publisher confirmed the date alongside many of the games talked about in its Game Developers Conference keynote last night in San Francisco. We just forgot to tell you about it.

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is coming to PC too, and features all the familiar satirical cartoon-artwork that has poked fun at the games industry for years.

Creators Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins are on board, naturally, and are being bossed about by Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame.

If we pop that into our excitement-ulator it adds up to a big number.

The game is a role-playing adventure set in a 1920s world with bonkers characters, over-the-top combat and, uh oh, "adult humour".

Pop over to our Penny Arcade Adventures gallery to be smitten by its charms, or toddle off to Eurogamer TV for the trailer.

This looks a touch like that monster hunting type game that has a demo on XBLM. That was bloody awful, but it was purely a mechanic and balancing issue in that case. This looks... intruiging.

Dilemma: my love of Ron Gilbert's design style and humour is matched only by my hatred of Penny Arcade's design style and humour. So now I don't know WHAT to think. :(

I think the cameo of 'Fruit-Fucker' might have something to do with the 'Adult Humour' bit.

I still haven't seen anything funny ever come out of Penny Arcade, apart from their bizarre Assassin's Creed reviews rant.

Feanor: Never? Like, not even in a SINGLE comic?

That's a shame, I think their work is often very witty :(

Whereas I like Penny Arcade and read it every week. Funny how humour is different to all of us, isn't it? Not sure if I'll be getting the game though - too many on the to-play pile and too little time. My back-log is getting stupid now - I still haven't started Civ4!

@ Muddtallica

Whereas my love of Ron Gilbert's design style and humour is equal only to my love of Penny Arcade's design style and humour. So now I've just done a sex-wee! :)
