PC demos for Machinarium, Risen

You should definitely try one of them.

PC owners get free tasters for hand-drawn point-and-click adventure Machinarium and unlovely role-playing game Risen today.

The first three levels of Machinarium are available, in both PC and Mac versions, from Big Download.

The game is a beautiful tale of a discarded robot making his way through a rusting dystopia, from the Czech master animators Amanita Design, who created Flash classic Samorost. Read Dan P's hands-on thoughts to learn more. It's out on 16th October.

Meanwhile, PC gamers can also fetch a demo of today's big RPG launch, Risen, direct from publisher Deep Silver.

Risen's the new game from Gothic developer Piranha Bytes. You can find the other Dan's judgement in this morning's review, but be warned, it's not that flattering: "horrible graphics, opaque design and clumsy combat". Ouch.

It's debateable whether the "Other Dan" actually played Risen at all from his review comments but, we'll leave it there for the moment....

I think that comment is a little unfair when two of those issues may not be true of the PC demo. You could at least make it clear there that it was the Xbox 360 version that was reviewed not the PC version.

You should definitely try Machinarium as the demo is fantastic. Can't wait for the full game.

Only a little unfair? It's a freaking joke.

Machinarium was lovely. Been waiting for it for so long and it was great to see it live up to (my) expectations.

And I will give Risen a go, I need a demo after the scathing review, but I want to make up my own mind about it as the premise sounded promising and I was (until this morning) interested in it.

I loved Samorost to bits, Machinarium is a day one purchase for me. I wont even try the demo for fear of spoiling the story.

You should definitely try one of them.

The general consensus seems to be that YOU should try the other one, EG. ;)

$17 for a flash game? Yeah the demo was fun but... meh.

    @Hesterumpe

It didn't really spoil anything. Its only like 3 'screens' long. I was looking forward to it before, but man, afterwards...

A lot of ppl are loving Risen and I actually am DLing the demo cause of the so bad review and so many reactions form the viewers. If it is good ill start laughing my ass off again. Do hope it is. Wont be the first time the rating of this website is so out of it plus i never count on reviews. ( movies as well )

Ok, I just tried Machinarium. Its simply briliant and im dumbfounded cause I thought it would be misserable lil game from the looks of it but from the way its so smartly put together, its miniriddles and even the animations and ideas you see when you let it idle is just amazing. Im buying this as probably my first title of the kind actually for a few years now if im correct. Simply amazing. ( Risen installed already but ill test later )

And as about Risen, cause i tried it and im heading to go buy it, for those that feel like theyd play a game like Gothic 2 ( just way better ) simple and also gives a feel of Vamp the Masquerade to me then you will love this game to waste your time with. Indeed i havent enjoyed RPGs lately and this Risen is perfect for this time around. Its not impressing visually but more than sutisfying and the control system is extremely easy, unlike the review in the site... Its way too simple as a game so its actually surprisingly pleasant to play. I think the reviewer should just go back to the Atari. I still have it somewhere. 1 button and the stick. No complicated stuff there.

My point is that at least you should try the demo instead of count on this actually failed review of Risen in the site. Its not a 10 nor a 9. But easily an 8 if you are feeling like playing a game like this.
