PC demo for PES 09 available

Console versions out today too.

Konami has popped out a PC demo of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 to go alongside the previously announced PS3 and 360 versions, also out today.

The sampler weighs around 1GB, and lets football fans jump into the collective boots of Man United, Liverpool, Madrid and Barcelona. Italian and French national squads are also playable. But no Arsenal 1/10.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, we're promised, has been rebuilt to sport new visuals, models, animations and more. Konami certainly talks a good game.

We'll see just how good when the game appears on PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and PSP on 17th October.

I downloaded and briefly tried the PC demo this morning. As with last year's game, by default it doesn't support 1680x1050 resolutions so I had to play it in a window on the desktop but first impressions are that this is just more of the same. Visually and sonically it's pretty much unchanged, the presentation is still a bit tacky but it plays fine with the Xbox 360 controller. I'm going to try the 360 and PS3 demos though as I'm not too keen on playing sports games on a PC... seems wrong somehow! LOL

bit slow aren't you today EG? demo was out on the 360 this morning....
  • AnotherMartin #4 3 years ago

And out on the PC last night.

There's a fix for the res issues and another for some other bits over on the evo-web forums.

Is there a FIFA demo as well?

And before you ask, of course I haven't looked for it.
  • skillian #6 3 years ago

Yes, the FIFA 09 demo was out a couple of weeks ago.

I do hope this is better than that - I really didn't like it.

I try the demo every few years to see if it's better then RTWC 98, they never are.

    Theodore Whitmore ftw!!

What the hell u talking about Darren, I played the demo fine at 1680x1050, just change it in the settings.

Is the PC version based on the PS2 one again?
  • Darren #11 3 years ago

@dreassic - You mean the settings that are outside of the main game? Gee, why are PC games so damn primitive... wouldn't it be better, to you know, have all settings available in the game? Would it really be so hard? LOL

And if the demo supports 1680x1050 via this separate Settings options, why are people on the Evo Web forum posting Settings files for 1440x900 and 1680x1050, etc.? I mean I've just been on there and downloaded a Settings file because I assumed it wasn't installed with the game. I only had ten minutes to try out the PC demo and I couldn't see any ingame resolution option so I (incorrectly obviously) assumed you couldn't change it.

FIFA 09 on the PS3 and 360 you mean? I was under the impression that FIFA 09 on the PC was the usual lazy PS2 engine port...
  • MGG #13 3 years ago

Darren, have you actually plaed FIFA 09 demo on the PC? Its nothing like last years lazy, horrible, rip-off PS2 version. Thankfully.

Now to see how good this PES one is. Anyone know if it likes WINE?

Oh, and 200th post. Special, like me.

So Donnelly whats your Blah blah blah... why dont you go post in a thread about that rather than spoiling for a scrap in here?!?

on topic, Pro Evo demo is not very impressive, konami don't really seem to be trying? Maybe just demo bugs but a bit static and when it does decide to move, a bit jumpy! (360 version) and graphics are not a patch on FIFA! FIFA is once again far better and will be my choice again this year...
  • skillian #15 3 years ago

FIFA 09 PC is somewhere between the two this time. A lot better than PS2 graphics, but not at PS3/360 levels because it would "only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market". Where EA get this crap from I do not know.

    Blah blah blah Fifa

    Blah blah blah Pro evo

same shit every year, yet you keep doing it like the mindless sheep you are. - Donnelly.

Thanks tmatharu - most useful comment in the thread so far. Definitely will try it out when I get home...

Is it even more difficult to use a keyboard?

Cause I remember once when footy games could be easily played with a keyboard, I want those days back. :(

Been playing the PC demo (now with full-screen 1680x1050 visuals!) and I must say that it's rather good, something I couldn't quite discern from playing the game in a small window on the desktop this morning! Ahem! I used the demo tweak from Evo Web to increase the game length to 20 minutes so I could get a good session. The game runs surprisingly well on my aging PC too with what appears to be anti-alising and with v-sync on... no slowdown during cinematics and replays and silky-smooth during gameplay. Played with a wireless controller it's good fun and I see where the improvements have been made in terms of A.I. and physics. It's also slower paced as others have mentioned but still faster than FIFA. The 360 and PS3 demos are still downloading but if the latter version is as good as this (albeit at a lower resolution) then I'll definitely be buying it. I was almost tempted to buy it for the PC but I'd rather play the game on a 32" HDTV with surround sound and my PC doesn't have access to that.

"Something tells me you were bend on writing this no matter how the demo would turn out ;-)
I stil don't understand, though, what you find so 'floaty' about the FIFA demo. "

Well, it cause of the overly smooth animations, and the use of the analogue stick ONLY, it doesnt feel as responsive and feels a bit floaty......
