Pandemic doing Batman game? News

PC PlayStation 2 PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

3 April, 2008

Mercenaries developer Pandemic is rumoured to be working on a Batman game to tie-in with the upcoming film.

Both Kotaku and Videogaming247 claim to have confirmation, as did IGN before it pulled its story.

Rumours Pandemic had been handed the rights to the Dark Knight licence began to emerge last May on Kotaku and IGN .

Could be rather good news, given the track record of Pandemic and the fresh quality focus of owner and publisher EA. Not to mention the fact that the edgier more sinister Dark Knight series seems to be the focus of the whispered title.

EA has been contacted for comment.

I wonder if this is why Mercenaries 2 has been delayed so much?

I've never heard of a decent Batman game before. Could this be the first?

Sonds pretty plausible. Pandemic seems to be a competent developer, but I've never actually played a Pandemic developed game. The games they've made in the past are just not interesting to me. I'm sure they're techically accomplished, though.

it would be cool if they'd manage to make a decent batman game; being a long-time fan of old Batsy I would enjoy playing one if it was worthwile. But if it's standard movie tie-in crap; I'd rather get my super-hero kicks from InFamous (seeing as Crackdown 2 is unlikely to happen).

I think a sort of open-world Mercenaries style game would be terrific. Taking place across Gotham, lots of crimes happening all the time, with "gangs" belonging to different supervillains controlling different areas of the city...

Could be great! Especially if they keep Robin in it and allow for co-op :-)

Eurocom did Batman Begins, and although I'm sure it sold well thanks to a partnership with EA, the game itself wasn't very good.

Sad that their sole original IP in many years, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, sold terribly but was one of their few genuinely good titles.

I never finished it because of a game-breaking bug that screwed up my save, however..

I think this game will be out to coincide with the movie's DVD release in either late October or early November. This is one of the reasons that the companies involved have been so quiet. Apparently the game will be more open-ended than Batman Begins which I actually did enjoy as well. I hope EA have learned the lessons from Superman Returns. A game that had it's main story mode ripped out and replaced with a series of sub missions which were poorly disguised as the main campaign. That game was originally supposed to be out at the time of the cinema release but it was nowhere near ready and so it was put back to the DVD release but alas the game was stripped down and actually had another development team come in towards the end of the game's production. Apart from the flying and aerial combat which was superb the game was a disgrace to the Superman name.

This has been a MrObycyek Investigation. "Hold on to your pants!"
